Not Really CC: SF media is as bad as Michigan's media

Submitted by michgoblue on

Below is an article discussing the possibility of Harbaugh leaving Stanford for Michigan.  I am NOT posting it for a coaching change ("CC") discussion - the article contains NO information, just opinion from some San Fransisco Examiner writer.

I am posting it because I think that the inaccuracies are hysterical:

1.  Our AD is named David Barron.  I hope that this Barron dude is more decisive than Brandon.  (/s)

2.  This Barron, our AD, was a former Michigan QB.

3.  RR had a top 10 recruiting class.

4.  We were widely expected to contend to win the B10 this year.  Really?  By whom?  We didn't even start the season ranked.

Just thought that this was entertaining.  If their current gigs don't work out, Sharp, Henning, Rosenberg and company could probably get jobs at the SF Examiner - their lack of interest in the facts would fit in great there.

"At football-crazed Ann Arbor, Harbaugh is the prodigal son, while embattled coach Rich Rodriguez plays Judas at what is likely his last supper".

What does that even mean?

Ha - I forgot to include that one.

If you are going to make a literary or historical reference, it would be a good idea to know what you are referring to.

While I am no biblical scholar, apparently (if the Judas comparison is what was intended), he is implying that RR has been trusted by the fanbase and he is secretly selling us out behind our backs.

Um, like RR or not, I don't think that can be further from the truth.  If anything, the fanbase has been a Judas to Rich.

It's like the guy is trying to include a couple of biblical cliches just for good measure.  The story of the prodigal son and the betrayal of Jesus have no connection whatsoever.

Is RR both Judas and Jesus in that metaphor?  Judas was obviously there, but it wasn't his own last supper, he presumably had a couple more.

I don't know whether journalistic ignorance (SF) or malfeasance (Freep) is less bad, but this article is sure making a case for malfeasance.

Wow that article is bad and has many innacuraccies.  I am not sure why the writer refers to RR as Judas.  Judas took the silver and then betrayed, I don't see how RR has betrayed the Michigan athletic department.  Maybe we didn't get the instant results, but RR has in no way betrayed Michigan football.  I hope this writer isn't a paid staff member, then again look at the Freep offers.

"...throughout the second half, thousands of fans chanted, “Jim Harbaugh, Jim Harbaugh” as the Wolverines lost to the arch rival Buckeyes for a seventh straight time Saturday."

Really?  At the horseshoe/toilet seat?   Can anybody confirm that?

I just called by friend who went to the OSU game.  Apparently, there were chants of Jim Harbaugh, Jim Harbaugh.

But, the chants were not from the Michigan section (which he said was the smallest he had ever seen at the 'Shoe, by the way).  It was from the OSU fans mocking Michigan.

That's a pretty key distinction.

I didn't hear it on TV, so it is possible that to the extent that there were chants, they weren't stadium wide or loud enough to overtake the roar of the OSU tudent section.  My friend wasn't in the student section - he is (gulp) an OSU alum, and sat in one of the sections that at our stadium would be reserved for those of blue hair.

In all likelihood, these "chants" were just isolated groups of OSU asshats, and if you were in a section close enough to hear it, you did.

Did we write the comments or were those from SF readers who clearly feel the same way about this guy?

Oregon might have my favorite comment:

"The quality of this article provides hope and inspiration to any mediocre person wishing to pursue a career in journalism!"

I f we harnessed the power of M Go Blog, by all agreeing on what we know.......and we do know RichRod is not getting fired.......we may need a new DC, but no way Brandon is going to give up on the RR offense with the seeds that hve been planted........and focus on sending out a positive spin.

Let us be the counterpoint to idiots like this.  With a few pre-NFL linebacker types, that 2012 schedule that opens with Alabama could be a national title run.......not a rebuilding year.

But we know recruits come to this famous site if they are seriously considering Michigan......as they do with any school they are seriously considering.

so when you see moronic stuff like this article out there, decide if we are part of the problem  or part of the solution.

Do you read this blog?  Have you seen the division amongst the fanbase?  Are you listening to what DB is saying as plain as day?

If yes to any of these, how can you say "we do know RichRod is not getting fired."  Nobody knows this.  DB has been about as close to the vest on this decision - if one has been made - as any AD I have ever heard of.

If you know this for sure, you might want to let Brian know so that he can post something on the front page.  Oh, and when you do, please make sure to give him your source for this knowledge that the rest of us don't have.

Seriously, I don't mean to be an ass, but this type of inane post is just annoying.  If it were so clear, why wouldn't DB have just come out and said something and put an end to all of this speculation.

The Examiner is written for people who move their lips when they read.  It's given away free -- serious -- and usually ends up lining the floors of Muni stations.  It's one of the last Hearst papers, still funded by a trust set up by the Hearst fortune, to mislead and incite the masses in perpetuity.

Maybe he was looking at his past career as CEO of Dominoes and got him mixed up with his competitor, Red Baron. Honest mistake I think. I hear he is even interviewing for AD jobs as well.

that kind of stuff is the rule rather than the exception.

outside of the NYT, Washington Post, L.A. Times (mostly anyway) and possibly the WSJ, there just don't seem to be any papers that are run with any kind of integrity or standards.
