what is that from?
I do hope UT beats the Gators.
Here's to ND and MSU beating the snot out of eachother tonight.
And everyone dies.
ND will definitely limp into next week.
I keep turning to weather channel for an update on a meteor or flash flood in EL, but nothing so far. :(
Erin Andrews seems choppy as the host on Fox. She has called Stanford the "Cardinals," for example. She also said "We are awaiting tonight's matchup agains the Stanford Cardinals and the USC Trojans."
She doesn't seem ready for prime time to me.
Also: Can't wait to see what happens w/ the ND MSU game.
edt: God. It's terribe this Erin Andrews thing. There's no continuity.
You need to drink more if your paying attention to commentary
She's not even that hot. There. I said it.
your = possessive
you're = you are
He said you need to drink more not that he did.
Oh, she's damn near awful. That's why ESPN let her go. She can't handle anything beyond the inane two-questions-to-a-coach-running-off-the-field-at-halftime gig. The Fox studio team, as a whole, is pretty amateur hour.
We have our winner. Espn essentially let her go for the examples stated above, she's Amateur hour.
Joey takes the Irish...cant blame the guy probably blames the entire state of michigan for his failure of a nfl career.
Im going to be jacked up for this ND-Sparty game. Then I'll change the channel during commercial to the USC game. After 1 drive I won't be able to go back to the sparty game. Damn the big ten for sucking.
just how good USC is
I don't think they are that good but who knows
I know we want a B1G sweep of wins this week, but it would be best for MIchigan if Sparty loses, then we get a bump from beating ranked ND next week. Michigan could jump as many as 5 or 6 spots in the rankings if Sparty loses, KState continues to derp away against North Texas, and real Texas plays ugly @ Ole Miss. We could end up seeing Ohio ranked #9 or #10 if they jump Clemson for beating Cal, and Michigan ranked near them at #11 or #12 behind TCU, (maybe #13 if ND jumps us for beating a #10 ranked school, albeit an early ranking)
Until we beat a respectable team like State (that hurts to say) or Ohio....keep us off the radar. We really shouldn't be worried about our ranking yet
We're not really playing for ranking. We're not a top-five team. We're just playing to beat our rivals and/or win the B10.
You'll have to forgive me, I'm more of a glass-is-half-full kind of guy. Someone's gotta be.
I hate myself for rooting for ND tonight
feels dirty doesn't it? It's like getting drunk and hiring a hooker at the Akron Motel 6.
And when she shows up, you think you see a little bit of an Adam's apple, but you're like "Whatever, I already payed."
for Stanford on the opening kickoff
Here's to couches aflame in East Lansing.
Pretty sure there is a 100 percent chance of that happening tonight.
Let's go Big Ten let's gain back a little respectability.
USC plays so damn hard. These guys block like their about to lose their starting spot if they don't go all out.
That the way your suposed to block.
Go Fighting Meteors!
Stanford receivers cant get open and it's not like Nunes can fit it in tight. It is just a matter of time unti SC pulls away
I think I'm pulling for ND. it gives Sparty a loss that hopefully ends the talk of them as a darkhorse BCS title contender and knocks their ranking down. On the other side, it inflates ND's ranking (making a Michigan win look better) and makes them a bit more overconfident going into next week's game.
That or a meteor strike.
Did MSU really come out of their tunnel in smoke? Lame
Go Notre Dame. I guess.
Coach Kelly seems surprisingly non-grape like
Whaaaaaat!??!?!?!?! He's 245 GTFO!
Way to put your QB out to dry...
"You can never be comfortable with a freshman quarterback"
Way to call out your QB lad.
Love your sig... except for the last album haha.
ND already running into each other....jeez. Blew that kick return.
ND proceeds to run into their own men on the kickoff
BK= Shade light pink so far
Great start ND.
Wow. Yakety Sax to the max.
my god kelly....this is sad. How can you not come into a game ready to play.
Domers a little tentative out there.
Damn, would have been nice to shut up the stadium early
Wow, that was open. Great protection for Golson so far too.
Honestly...Sparty telegraphs their blitzes so bad and no one seems to ever pick them up.
They will be blown out
notre dame offence looks not good
and sparty starts with Personal Foul's already...shocker.
Personal foul on the second class mouth breathers already. Gotta be a record.
A -- haha Sparty personal foul derp
B -- have Notre Dame's helmets gotten shineyer this year?
3rd and 11, showing blitz, let's run it up the middle. Wtf?!
Only thing I could figure is if Kelly just wanted his O off the field to regroup. Other than that, it makes no sense.
Looking at Sims makes me feel good about AJ Williams's chances as a TE in our offense. They are pretty close to the same size.
6'6" 283 for AJ
6'5" 285 for Sims
It is the way Williams moves that scares me. He needs to lose 15 or gain 15 to be a OLineman.
The Sparty receivers just make me laugh, and I thought we had issues
Hard for me to say this, but go Irish.
Stanford really staying in this one.
You know what grinds my gears? ABC only shows these 4 "impact players" at the beginning of the game. You're supposed to show all ofthe starters pics with their name, class, position and number. I like seeing that. I like to see what classes all the guys are in. Did ABC have to cut their picture budget? Grumble, grumble.
That's a great catch. He didn't even jump just one-handed that I think
Wow. I guess Golson is in for a reason.
Hey, cool! Refs are calling interference on Sparty, finally.
Wait a second...I was told Sparty was dominate because they haven't given up a TD.................................................never mind the god awful offenses they faced in the first 2 games.
Good hitting going on in the USC Stanford game
and I F-ing HATE notre dame. I hope they lose every game they play and their fools gold helmets make me want to throw up in my mouth.
I hate ND as much as you do, but I root for the B1G more than most around here. I as well am rooting for (verp) MSU.
I always pull for the B1G to do well... except ohio. I'm not one of those "I hope ohio wins all their games except Michigan" type guys. IMO, a win against a 0-11 ohio feels just as good as a win against a 11-0 ohio.
ND plugging up the middle pretty well so far
That was a nice play by Maxwell. CMU seems like it might have been the perfect cure for his jitters.
Feel dirty....pulling for ND in this one. I've had enough of MSU and their big mouths.
I am filled with self loathing, accordingly
Wow...that ND secondary is BAD...not even in the picture on some of these throws
Lawrence Thomas playing FB now!?
Lawrence Thomas at TE now?
Didn't know Sparty put L. Thomas on O.
Hey does anyone know how much Leveon Bell weighs? I really want to know, but the announcers won't say
You could probably get away with not putting anyone out to cover Bennie Fowler.
tried that last week, it didn't work :(
Notre Dames short pass coverage is bad. Guess selling out against the run is the gamble they have to take tonight.
Sparty being sparty....
Every time I hear any announcer/analyst talk about Bell, they always say the 245/250lb. back.
I'll give sparty this for about the last 2 or 3 yrs they have always had an answer for a score. Not sure how they keep doing it but they never let anyone get away from them (save bama).
Of course after that missed FG if ND can put another 7 on the board they might be able to pin their ears back and live with that is clearly a step down from the WR corp sparty put on the field a year ago.
away from them? Iowa beat them 37-6. Nebraska smacked them last year. So did Notre Dame.
The interior of MSU's offensive line is just terrible. They look like a sieve. If Notre Dame had a decent secondary, Sparty would be in deep shit.
and that is how you beat the crazy sparty A gap blitz.
It's a good thing Borges has opened up his screen game
Atkinson 10.36 100 meter. Pretty good, hopefully he finds no daylight next week
#7 Tuitt is an animal.
what a bunch of losers pulling their keys out on 3rd down.
By the end of this game, we will also know the height and weight of MSU's grad assistants, at this rate.
Isn't it offsides on the defense if the offense is reacting to a player in the neutral zone?
Keep it together ND!
Still hate Caper for that screen pass TD in OT in the 2009 game that I attended. Terrible tackling on that play.
A more experienced QB could wreak havoc on MSU's D.
7-3, Utah State, at 11:37 in the 2nd quarter. Wisconsin forced to punt.
Great fake-out by the ND returner
IF and I mean IF our Dline can figure something out.....you can have your way with the Sparty Oline.
Give Bell the Ron Dayne treatment and you should be in business.
This Golson kid is impressive
Gardner/funchess jump balls all day vs Michigan state
States Scoreboards look silly. Oversized for their stadium, would look much better If they were in a larger venue !
...compensating for something, surely.
I love it when Herbie speaks too soon.
Damn, Eiffert almost had that
Eiffert should've had that one. Jeez
Only Goulston could fall on his ass and have an announcer make it sound like a good play.
I'm rooting for (gulp) MSU, but ONLY because I put them at #8 on my college pick'ems and I really want to make 8 points off them. I think both teams are awful.
Fresno State 34 - Colorado 0
MSU shakes keys now? I remember when that was the thing for us.
they prefer to shake cars but can't do that inside the stadium
Maxwell is 4-11 for 39 yards. I thought they proved against CMU he's a good passer?
It's far more difficult to highlight your play action pass specialty against ND than it is against CMU...
...and then, of course, Maxwell gets sacked. If MSU loses tonight, the awful offensive line play might end up being key.
The way Brent Musberger says "Aahhrrish" instead of "Irish" really gets on my nerves.
It really grinds my gears.
intensely. He just seems to riff on crap Herbie says ad nauseum.
Silas Redd injured after fumbling the ball.
ND looks a step better than MSU that quarter; it will be interesting to see if that is more representative of ND's talent or MSU's really poor offensive line play.
Wow...Colorado is just bad....down 35-0 to Fresno State and gave up two 90+ yard TD's
Also, they really are bottling Heisman Trophy candidate Bell (they also did the same thing last week when they were inhabiting CMU's sidelines).
Irish rush 3 and sack Maxwell. Quality Offensive Line. Quality.
So far, MSU is looking really one dimensional.
And that dimension is horizontal along the y--plane.
I hope you're counting defense in those dimensions. They can play without the ball. With it, not so much.
Clearly then the solution is to have the MSU offense play without the ball as well. Pretty sure that the offensive line could dominate without the distraction of protecting the QB.
Suck it Maxwell.
Wisky misses a FG, still down 7-3 8:02 2Q.
What's up with that Shembo dude. He is all over the place
I hope the fire departments are watering down those couches in east Lansing, sparty looks bad.
I think this is what people in the SEC call, "old man football." This game is boring the bejesus out of me. Just a series of poor executions. Both teams look like pretenders.
Michigan State plays Tressel ball with a few more trick plays thrown in to compensate for less talent than OSU>
Actually, a Missouri player made fun of SEC football for being "old man football." The SEC plays the most universally boring brand of football out there. They just happen to be really good at it.
Yep 'Bama plays some of the most boring football on Earth - they just have superior talent.
I thought he made fun of the Big Ten for playing old man football and said the SEC was so much better?
Turn on USC-Stanford, it's not too bad.
Somebody's been a little too high on themselves. I hope ND runs it up.
I need to have it ready by Monday morning to apply for the Colorado HC position.
When I make decisions on buying jeans, I always refer to Brett Favre's opinion.
That his advise isn't that great to follow.
Remember, our D was shaky in the first quarter most of last year as well. This is where we take over.
My 12 lb. dog locked me out of my house for 2 hours this evening. Now I know how to break into my own house.
Just thought you guys would get a kick out of that.
Please, do elaborate.
Stanford driving with 6 min left in the hald, down 14-7.
That was a pretty reverse
Atkinson not even close to Denard speed
Is it me or are sparty's DBs a lot bigger than ours?
Let's hope Notre Dame does not go up by 4 or 5 touchdowns so that they don't rest up their starters for next week. Other than that, this game pleases me.
That play to Atkinson was similar to our play for V Smith used against the ahrish last year. Had the same effect anyway.
The Throwback Screen That Always Works looks like it will work very well against Sparty.
Could be ridiculous if Norfleet is the recipient of that throwback screen
LOL Goulston fail
Tom has had a rough week.
ND movng the ball well against the supposedly awesome MSU defense. Kellying showing a lot of creativity and willingness to throw early and often.
Another ND touchdown.
MSU keeps biting on the misdirection plays. I hope the coaches are watching this tape
I hope so too. Take an ultra-aggressive defense hell bent upon stopping the run, and use that aggressiveness against them.
This Spartan defense is loaded with NFL talent! Just loaded! Thankfully Notre Dame apparently is a NFL team.
ND handling Sparty with conservative offensive play calling don't you guys think ?
Just in case anyone wants to keep an eye on this
Hilarious. - I especially love how it has a msu.edu domain
Love quiet Spartan Stadium but GOD, I despise Notre Dame so much.
The MSU student section is doing their impersonation of Ingham County...quiet, lifeless, white...
At least MSU can pretty much rely on ND choking this lead away at some point. However, watching that D line get abused is hilarious and I'm enjoying it while I can.
So take that Goulston
over/under on him calling in sick on monday?....
Update at 9 minutes into game: Thus far Sparty being sparty.
(Update) 19 minutes into game: Sparty remains sparty like.
The wind is calm in EL tonight, that's good, it should keep the couch flames in one area
It cannot blow in circles.
What happened to them this year? Are they really this bad losing to Utah State late in the second Q ? I know they lost a few position coaches but damn !
I think Utah State is quite underrated at this point but the Badgers look terrible and lifeless.
Gotta feel bad for Montee Ball.
Wisky coughs up the football 2 minutes left in the 2nd
B1G is going to look so bad is ND pulls this one off. Like bad like we have never seen bad before bad in the media. Bad bad bad.
At this point NU is the only postseason eligible team that has wins over BCS teams
Indeed Lions fan, sad but true.
Given that we have no realistic shot at the national title, who cares how the Big Ten looks?
Do you want Sparty in the top 10? I'd much rather see them drop off the map.
ND AD translated: We can beat the ACC more easily than the B1G
He is having a little buyers remoser after seeing the big ten this year.
They are taking advantage od States aggressiveness. Nice.
We need to be effective throwing the ball against State.
Seems adidas has made better jerseys this year as the ND away jerseys aren't coming apart upon being touched.
Coughed up the ball inside own 35.
And Touchdown Utah State.... maybe... flag down.
This has never made any sense. Why do we use the agricultural aspect of MSU as an insult?
8 in the box, daring MSU to pass. Maxwell cannot pull it off. Going to be a long night if they cannot do something through the air.
ND corners being so inexperienced, I'm surprised the green team isn't testing them more. I guess the qb needs an Oline to do that.
I don't know why we're not seeing more Bell.
Utah State scored on a fade route to the right corner with man coverage. 14-3 :29 2Q.
29 seconds left in the half
Was Wisconsin supposed to be this bad this season? I'm shocked.
Good riddance. Hate Wisconsin and Bielema. They were fortunate not to lose their first game against Northern Iowa.
How is wisconsin so bad?
"Michigan State is Michigan State" for once I agree with Herbie. Sparty indeed has to Spart.
So you're saying Penn State is the favorite to win the Legends division w/ Ohio ineligible.
Or this could be Indiana's year!
Indiana trails Ball State 17-14 late in the 2nd quarter.
They're both eligible to win the regular season division title.
Neither is allowed to go to the B1G championship game.
Lol, ND defensive lineman hurt hus knee celebrating (laughing how he hurt it, not that he hurt it).
Bell is MSU's entire offense, both running AND receiving. The only passes Sparty can complete are horizontal, i.e., glorified running plays. Every time Maxwell drops back, ND is all over him.
can get to him too?
Unfortunately, I think that MSU is going to be run the ball against us better than they're running against ND. Mattison is going to have to come up with some magic to get MSU to go away from Bell, which is their obvious weakness. Then, when they do, Mattison is again going to have to blitz the crap out of Maxwell as he doesn't seem to pass well when he's pressured. I think we're going to have to take a lot of chances on defense, hope they hit, and that the offense is efficient.
As big as those two plays by that ND DL (#91) were, how stupid would it be if he just blew out his knee by jumping and stomping into the ground.
Is a five star at ND. There is a good chance is was pre-destined.
Three straight plays that ended up in interceptions. Not three straight drives or three straight passes. Three straight plays. Barkley int, Stanford int, Barkley int.
Barkley has 2 interceptions. Still 14-7 SC
Sheldon Day's knee buckled pretty good as he was celebrating. I'd guess an MCL strain or worse. Possibly good news for the good guys.
Lawrence Thomas really did get fat, didn't he.
If nothing else, MSU can provide just enough protection and drive itself to the outer edges of FG range when faced with a defense that can bring pressure. The Spartan offensive line is very much responsible for Maxwell's -18 rushing yards.
Here is your liars....I mean leaders division breakdown.
illinois- They got killed by a below average at best PAC-12 team
indiana- They're indiana
penn state- See: any major news site
ohio- The criminals are ineligible
wisconsin- See: Big Ten Network right now
Good thing we went with non-geographical, "balanced" divisions.
I think ND's DL is actually pretty good. A point I hope Borges sees and takes very seriously. I really don't think we're going to be able to line up and run the ball against them, at least based upon what we've seen from our run blocking thus far. I think we're going to have to come out passing, and passing, and passing. Then, getting the run going. I think the same thing goes for the MSU game.
Completely agree. Run blocking needs to improve and we need to get Defenses to respect the pass to alleviate some of the pressure.
I don't see any reason why we can't kill them through the air like last year but in an even more efficient and devastating manner. With nd's secondary issues and the big dog's(Devin and Devin) on our side we should just chuck chuck and chuck it all day.
I agree. I hope that DC's are getting a bit more nervous about going up against the "new-and-improved" passing Denard with his new Double Headed Devin toy -- they're BOTH a mismatch. Also, we saw Denard tuck-and-run today twice, and one went for a sick, nasty, amazing TD. I hope ND's DC watches that and craps his pants. Let them stack the box and come after him.
Gholson looks solid.
The next time he gets off a block will be the first time.
Most QB's don't fair well on interception return coverage
I meant to refer to the ND quarterback. Golson==gold helmet, Gholson==green helmet.
Golson = Gold Helmet
GholsTon = Green Helmet
I keep digging my hole deeper and deeper.
Damnit, I suck.
The big advantage right now for ND is their receivers. They've bailed out Golson a few times, while MSU's receivers haven't done a struggling Maxwell any favors.
Where is Gholston thought he was a stud DE.
He's busy letting himself get blocked all the time.
I hate when defensive players give offensive players the bronco buster as they try and get up. Dick move.
I don't understand why people are upset with ND's deal with the ACC. The Big Ten would never have allowed them to join as a non-football member. The ACC did, so they took it. They're still an independent in football.
It's the football scheduling agreement that is included which makes them something of a de facto ACC team in football too
And the Big Ten would never humiliate itself like that. So why does it matter?
Two dropped interceptions in one possession. wow.
Make that 2.5
I wish refs were more consistent when it comes to Defensive Pass Interference
Before his career is over, I swear Kelly's going to pull a Woody Hayes and run out on the field and punch somebody, only in his case it might be his own player or a ref instead of an opposing player.
"We be aight" Dantonio. He said it. Twice. *raises one eyebrow*
I logged on just to point out once again that Shane Morris' Dantonio impression is spot on.
Swarbrick looks just how I imagine every Notre Dame AD has ever looked: white, snooty, bespectacled, and sitting on a broomstick.
Obrien got yanked for Wiscy already? Jeez Bielema is already feeling pressure.
I want to say that Joel Stave, who is a freshman, is more or less the only other Wisconsin QB that is currently not in some stage of rehabilition from an injury. If Stave fails to produce, I think you go with 2 RBs, one ostensibly acting as the QB, throwing short, awkward passes to lethargic receivers.
O my god, I just changed to the Wisconsin game. The B1G is terrible. Terrible. I used to be offended when people said this, but sweet Jesus.
Indiana scored a 2-point conversion at the end of the first half to take a 25-24 lead against Ball State.
In other news Wisconsin is down 14 - 3 to UTAH STATE OH MY GOD THE BIG TEN SUCKS THIS YEAR.
Must win division...down year...
Even Sparty is looking not so great apart from their defense. If we beat them we are in Indy and probably pasadena.
Yeah their defense looks great. They've been thrown all over by a guy who can't throw. They're tough on the run but I'm over everyone acting like they're the baltimore ravens.
Sidenote: Missouri's new uni's are goofy. Their old uni's were classic. Now they look like they play arena football, or like a team from The Replacements. They're down there with the Bengals, or a C-USA team, imho.
I wonder if Gholston updated his tatoo.
It wasn't Tom, it was ....I can't even remember his name. He's on the packers practice squad.
If it's a douche from State who now plays for the Packers it must have been Jerel Worthy
I was thinking the exact same thing man, almost posted about them earlier.
Wisky returns a punt for a TD.
Well, if your offense can't move that ball, I guess you have to find other ways to score
Nix makes Pipkins look small....almost
MSU is a one trick pony, take away Bell, and they're headed for the glue factory.
ND is getting pressure with 3.
I dunno ND...that is a rather weak leprechaun this year.
MSU A-Gap blitz stops ND
Finally MSU's defense makes a play.
Apparently, sh*t got real and Narduzzi is on the field early with his cool laminated Excel pivot table of blitzes.
Funny part is that the only thing on that sheet is A Gap blitz...
It's amusing how after every dropped pass, sparty WR's make the 'where's the flag' motion if there's a defender within a few yards of them.
Wisky scores 3:07 3Q
Edit: Wow, XP blocked
I'm really looking forward to playing Purdue for the Big Ten championship.
Why not? Wisky puts the ensuing kickoff out of bounds.
My analysis of Andrew Maxwell: He is really bad.
I get that he doesn't have the weapons Cousins had (which is why I never thought he was as good as people thought), but we may need to replace SheridenThreetDamnit with Maxwell!
he seems fairly on target to me. he's just getting hit on practically every pass. and the drops haven't helped either.
What the hell kinda pass was that? No pressure, fakes to bell, throws it in the stands.
This ND defensive line is REALLY scary. I know MSU's line is crap, but that defensive front 7 is going to be tough.
I'm certainly glad Lynch is no longer there.
Yeah. But even without him, Denard is going to have to get out of the pocket to get anything going. That pocket just won't be there long enough otherwise.
Their back 4 is pretty tame, though. I like our Funchess, Gardner matchup.
It is hard to believe Colorado used to be good. Losing 55-7 AT HALF to Fresno State. Them and UMass should play eachother.
HOLY FUCK at being down 55-7 at the half and yielding 500+ yards of offense to FRESNO STATE
HOLY FUCK at being down 55-7 at the half and yielding 500+ yards of offense to FRESNO STATE
Serious? "post Katie Hndia"???? "the libs"??? Is this mgoblog or stormfront.org?
Riiight. because no football players would ever sexually assault anyone. And Gary Barnett handled that whole thing with the grace and intelligence of a bowling ball.
It's ok. She wasn't very good at football. (Can't believe this was really the jist of Barnett's argument)
Sure hope Borges is getting a good look at ND late D-line shifts.
Can't wait to hear Valenti next week talk about how the B1G and Rose Bowl are still attainable goals for MSU, when he rips on Hoke for talking B1G and Rose Bowls as the team goal
Sick. Why would you do that to yourself? You hate sports?
This ND offense is pretty unimaginative right now, because they really should be up more on this MSU team.
Notre Dame is actually 1 of 6 on 3rd downs in the game thus far, so they've strung together some pretty efficient drives to get those 14 points. MSU has only 97 yards passing, which makes sense if you're going to attempt to play action defenses to death.
marvelled at by Fussbudget.
That's ND special teams for you - give up 5+ yards because you grab the ball on the bounce.
What a dumbass punt gunner! He downed a punt at the 21 that might have gone to the 15 or farther!
They're setting themselves up for another lose the big lead for a defeat at the very end moment?
Definitely. They should be dominating this game on the scoreboard, but a quick score and MSU is right back in it.
