So I guess we are in a place in our society where Nick Saban gets to free time to beg America to let Alabama please be in the playoffs. WTF?

5 embarrassing minutes of him saying they’d be favored and Bryce young was hurt and they’re playing better than anyone when they beat the tough Auburn Tigers and they lost 2 but they were really really close.  Can’t blame him for trying but it was a joke

There's lots that sucks about Fox and their endlessly expanding number of commercials, but maybe nothing more cringy than the way announcers immediately pipe down when someone gets injured, knowing that's seen as a chance to cut away and slip in another commercial. That always strikes me as particularly cynical.

He was making the case that this should be about selecting the 4 best teams and nothing else (eg, number of losses should not be dispositive). He justified the Bama losses as not so bad bc his team was not fully healthy, specifically identified Bryce Young's health, losses were road losses to top ten teams, and Bama plays in a tough conference, etc.

Then he said, almost verbatim: "You show vulnerability when you get beat badly at the end of the season.  [In contrast,] our team has played better at the end of the season, so that's my reasoning."

Given that almost everyone believes USC is already out anyway and the only other potential teams competing with Bama for the playoffs are Ohio State and TCU and TCU lost in overtime, I think it was understood that he had specifically in mind Ohio State's loss to us in Columbus.  For one, I'm glad that game is still on many people's minds.

I don't know. He just said the bowls are good because they help provide opportunities for players' "self-gratification." I feel like I just learned a lot about college football I didn't know before. Thanks, coach.

ESPN headline: "Saban touts 3-0 finish as case for CFP"

Translation: "While other teams were losing their championship games, we were beating Austin Peay."

Yep, wins and losses have to count. Nick was pushing Bama brand to suggest they should get in since they would be predicted to beat TCU or osu.

lol. Nicky. You lost games you should have won. It’s over. This is why TCU should remain in 3rd place… they have one more game than OSU and didn’t get the fudge kicked out of them in their loss.

All of a sudden Nick the _ick is BEGGING to get in.

You know the rules.

B/C of the way the system is setup, and the way the media cry about it, teams with 0 losses (Scott Frost) are almost always in the playoff.

Then it works down to teams with 1 loss.

Nick....you have 2 losses.

I agree, the pedestal Fox just gave him is ridiculous.

However, his argument is reasonable. There's always been a question about most deserving teams vs best teams. If you want the best teams, put the potential matchups on paper and ask yourselves who would be favored.

I really don't want Bama to make it, but not because I don't think they are a top 4 team
