New University President is being named tomorrow at the Regents meeting

Word just got out that a new University President will be announced at tomorrow's Board of Regents meeting. Heard they've had their person for several weeks now and were just negotiating the terms.

Anybody have flight tracker on?

I crossed paths with Ono at UC. The guy was properly using hashtags on Twitter to generate hype for football and basketball games before Twitter became what it is today. He would constantly tweet about sports while there and would attend games and be in the student section at times

He would also reject raises in effort to put a freeze on tuition hikes. He seemed real in tune with the student body and i wouldn’t hesitate to send my kids to a school he’s running.

in my opinion this would be a huge win for everyone. Especially the fans that want a guy who cares about the cash-cow of a football program.

This guy sounds perfect!  I mean, he sounds like someone the esteemed University of Michigan would never hire (HARRUMPH!!!).  A president that supports athletics is somewhat unprecedented at Michigan.  Maybe someone who isn't outwardly hostile to sports, but a fan of them?  What are the Regents thinking?  Did they get into the, ahem, wellness shops?

Whatever it is, if this is the guy and he's really a fan of sports, we might see some progress on the NIL front that we all want to see...  But I won't hold my breath on that count.

If he treats NIL the way he did Twitter back in 2012 or whenever that was then Michigan is in good hands. How many presidents are hands on with sports? USC and OSU are the only 2 that come to mind as of late but i admit i don’t know much about other schools in that regard.

in reality I’m not sure what kind of influence he will have but lord he was one hell of a promoter especially at a small school like that, which needed it.

at the very least we will have a president who not only recognizes athletics but understands it’s importance with the student body and alumni. That alone cannot be a bad thing.

His education was at UChicago and McGill. His work at Hopkins, Harvard, University College London, and Emory. He did have a 4 year stint as AD of Cincinnati but after that as been President of UBC as you mentioned. He might a big proponent of athletics, but wish it would be someone who has actual experience at a public university with big time football & basketball

Tunney will present trophies to both Lloyd Carr (for winning the MNC in 1997) and Jim Harbaugh (for winning the B1G in 2021) during separate FOX Big Noon kickoff pre-game shows, with notorious shit-stirrer Rowdy Urban Meyer hosting that portion of the show.

Carr will get pissed because Harbaugh's trophy is bigger - it will all end in them wrestling at WrestleMania 39.
