New Hoke Quote. Explains the season

Submitted by itauditbill on

Coach Hoke in the Big 10  teleconference noted the following: "As a coach, you don't want your team peaking early."  (Slightly out of context, but I laughed.)

I agree the joke is old, but I still don't get why so many people hate WD. As I write this, he has twicw as many downvotes as upvotes, but a guy replying with another old Hoke joke has twice as many upvotes as downvotes.

All of the practices they've had this season have been great practices, but this week....oh, man...this is where our ability to practice finally peaks to its full potential.

Peaked? We haven't even BEGUN to peak! And when we do peak? You'll know! Because we're going to peak so hard, that everyone in Columbus is going to feel it!

They're going to come out this week and play like an NFL team and then we'll see who has the last laugh when Dave Brandon gets paid off of his massive bet on the Wolverines moneyline and opens a rival pizza chain, paying out nice sums to the coaches for enabling him to get paid to get out of his contract

Touche guys, you fooled us

Wasn't it English actor Tom Courtenay who once said something like, "I don't want to peak too early, because then you'll never know whether or not you peaked at all?" That might not be the exact quote, but then it has been years since I thought about it. Still, I find it to be true in various aspects of my life. Of course, if you go by the record alone, we did peak too early perhaps in this era of Michigan football.

I know we're at that point where people are trying to pile on, but there's nothing wrong with that quote.  You want your team to play its best at the end of the season.
