NEW Gregg Henson article alleges ex-players signed petition to fire Brandon

Submitted by FabFiver5 on

Gregg Henson has published a new article on his website alleging that more than 450 former football players signed a petition and presented it to the Regents to have Dave Brandon removed.

Among other things, there's an alleged email exceprt from a "former football captain" that lists all the things the players can't stand about Brandon. If you like juicy info and potentional conspiracy theories, this piece is chock-full.

If any or all of this is true, look out, fireworks may actually start happening around the Big House.

I never really liked him, but that list is ....just....WOW!

Some of it I had heard, but most of it is simply shocking.

The thought of a new AD coming in and giving Hoke one more year (assuming the season continues to go south) might shake the program to it's core.  Possibly to the point it doesn't recover.

Miles will soon be 61 and if we don't get Harbaugh after this season, probably never will.  The stars seem to be aligning, but will the last couple of pieces fall into place?

Most of the things on the list are already verifiable or have been rumored or expressed by other sources. Ask youself this, have you heard anything contrary to these claims? Are there hoards of people that are saying what a great guy Brandon is to work for? Is there any evidence that Brandon is not trying to squeeze every red cent from the pockets of Michigan fans with no regard for history, tradition or loyalty? Has there been any indication that he set out to find the best coach for Michigan, absent any agenda? Has he shown that he believes in a consistent set of standards on which to judge his head coach (i.e., lack of Big Ten championships, performance in Red Letter games, etc).

Just asking.

because keeping a petition secret is more or less antithetical to the whole purpose of petitioning.

But I'm sure that when they decided to let the world in on it, they thought, "Of all the media figures in the world, how about an exclusive tip of this super-secret petition to Gregg Henson?"

Comparisons to Hitler and Nazi's in general get thrown around so much these days it kind of just causes me to roll my eyes and ignore it at this point. I'd guess almost every public figure in charge of something has been referred to in a similiar vein at this point. That doesn't make it ok, but I suppose apathy does have its advantages.

I went on Twitter to check out some of the comments. Henson is saying Hoke gets next year with a new AD if he gets to 8 wins and beats OSU or MSU on the road...again take it for what it's worth.

The only time AA police could have notified anyone about anything regarding that case was in 2009, before DB had been hired.

"Before the Iowa game" was surely a reference to the conclusion of the U's administrative proceeding last year, at which point AA police had no involvement whatsoever. And the fact of these two individuals' involvement in the case wouldn't have been news to anyone; the only new information was the conclusion of the administrative proceeding concerning one of them.

This really does fit Space Coyote's description of someone "throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks" (and that's before we get to the absurdity of #20 that you've all already put where it belongs).

---

I won't shed any tears if DB and the university decide to part company. But could we possibly allow for some sort of sane, rational decision-making process, instead of feeding the hysteria? We've got an article here about a supposed petition to the Board of Regents that doesn't even need a public comments section to go haywire, it's already Godwined itself. I think maybe that's a sign that we need to stop feeding the trolls.

("We" isn't a reference to this blog; I'm talking about the entire community.)

If this stuff is true and that's a big if...I wonder who's actually pulling the strings on the QB change? I can't imagine having to deal with that jerk every Monday morning in film sessions.

A LOT of this stuff is valid but stuff like covering up Mary Sue Coleman being drunk is stupid.  That's his job to try to protect any perceived notion - true or otherwise - and take the hit.

I hate saying but the notion that Brady Hoke deserves 1 more year under a new AD to be fair is ridiculous. He has had 4 years.  He has been paid a king's ransom.  The team is not well coached in 2 of its 3 units.  See UFR!  If this is not a 9-3 or 8-4 team there is no way you can justify a Brady Hoke return.

Ok that I can get but really unless we know the whole situation its impossible to tell what happened.

How many people would stand up to their CEO and say "look you are tipsy ...don't talk in public."  That is even if Brandon was sitting next to her to make the call.  Would take serious brass balls to go to your university president and say "I am not going to let you talk in public tonight as you wish too. You are in no condition to"

So, Alum96: how do we actually know what Brady Hoke can do?  How do we know what Al Borges could do?  David Brandon dictates how the plays are going to be called.  Just like with Rich Rod and with Borges, the only judgment we can really make about Brady Hoke is that the AD has corrupted his results with his meddling.

In other words, Brady Hoke's grade is an "Incomplete."

Fire Rich Rod.  How did that work out?

Fire Al Borges.  How did that work out?

Fire Brady Hoke.  How many more coaches have to be fired before they get rid of the real problem?

I would love to see Hoke get one more year with the freedom to determine how his team plays football.  If that means a spread OC, great.  If it means opening up the offense under Nuss or another coordinator, great.  But I want to see what Brady Hoke can do when David Brandon isn't making Schembeclher Hall and the Big House part of his fiefdom.

Uhh David Brandon sitting in on film session is very different than David Brandon "dictates how plays will be called" as you are writing. Cumong.  You are making Hoke sound like a slave in a plantation from 200 years ago.  The freedom to determine how his team plays football?

because he was being honest. I know I've said it a million times but within an hour of winning the Sugar Bowl I told my group that I'd still trade our entire staff for Harbaugh. Yup, every coach for one guy. The difference is that big between them. Clean trade and let Jim hire whoever he wants. I don't dislike most if the staff (then or now) but that's how highly I think if Jim as a coach. At the CFB level he was/would be the best out there, IMO. Above Saban, Meyer, Miles, etc. The ONLY issue being that we don't know what guys like Saban, Miles & Meyer can do at a school that doesn't turn a blind eye to everything they do with the team (good and bad). It's a huge reason why I say that as Jim won big and quickly taking over a depleted and terrible Stanford program. Stanford....where they care. I personally know someone that played his senior year there under Jim after years of horror. Saban? msu, lsu, bama.....free reign. A big question for Miles is that he's only won at schools that allow anything (ok st, lsu). I also have a legit account if what he's like so he'd definitely be reigned in at UM. How would he fare? Meyer? lol....please. Guy leaves UF in ashes only to take over the only SEC North program. Comments or not, brash attitude or not, Jim is honest and has won big at a place that does not condone cheating/shortcuts/etc.
