NBA Draft Discussion
Thought I'd make a thread to discuss the NBA draft since a lot of people are likely watching
One thing for sure, it's going to be "The C" in the "D".
Scottie Barnes is the most overrated player in the draft. Can't shoot, can only finish with one hand, not great in a half court offense. I just don't see the hype with him. Suggs was still on the board and Franz seems like a similar but better player
Until Franz gets rid of his offensive yips he isnt making an NBA squad. I love him but he is going to have to shoot 15 shots a game to get over the hump. I honestly think game time volume shots where it becomes second nature to him will solve everything.
He literally just got drafted top 10 lol
Yeah that didnt make a lot of sense. I think I meant limited minutes until he is confident in his jumper. An NBA player needs to have confidence in his shot. Not sure he has it as of right now.
Offensive yips? The guy was good at the rim with his length, and hit 34% on 3s. Definitely room for improvement, but his bad game against UCLA doesn't negate an efficient year.
And furthermore, his calling card is going to be his defensive skills, where he has the frame to defend multiple positions and be the switchable wing defender coveted by today's NBA. He's valuable for a team even if the shot never comes around. 15 shots a game is definitely not his path to being an NBA regular.
He’s already an upgrade over someone like PJ Tucker, who just won a championship. Put Franz in the right system and he will thrive.
"He isn't making an NBA squad."
Are you seriously this dim?
Scottie Barnes isn't flashy, but he can raise the floor for everyone around him. I think guys like him are often overlooked, and Toronto is a good (organizational) fit for him. Plus, I think the Raptors are taking a really long-term approach right now.
That being said, I could see some Stanley Johnson vibes, and I also think people are sleeping on Suggs, even as a top 5 pick.
Scottie Barnes isn't flashy, but he can raise the floor for everyone around him
But is that worth the #4 pick given the other guys available?
Yeah, that remains to be seen. Just think it's easy to overlook a player like him, plus I'll withhold judgement until we see what the Raptors get for Siakam.
Pretty surprised with the Raptors picking a lottery ticket instead of a sure thing in Suggs.
We'll see, but I would be shocked if Barnes fixes his shooting to point of being an all-star (which I think Suggs will be)...
Ben Simmons 2.0
Ben Simmons was a much better college player
yeah, well that sounds even worse for my Raptors...
Like any draft, just gotta cross your fingers and hope that Barnes is able to fix his shot...
3x All Star and NBA rookie of the year Ben Simmons?
Orlando's backcourt will be fun
Dude this Penny kid is going to tear it up.
He's a niiiiiiice
I have no idea if Cunningham will pan out, but it's good to see how excited he is to play for Detroit.
Pistons need a lot of help, but you have to build one piece at a time.
The MotorCade is coming to Detroit!
Franz is up next
Good look for Michigan Franz going this high.
Westbrook to the Lakers
That trade made me lol
Lakers are gonna finish 42-40
Between Davis, Drummond, and Westbrook, rebounds will not exist for whoever is playing the Lakers.
Westbrook is now the favorite to lead the league in assists at the Vegas sportsbooks. I'll be curious to see how this pans out.
with LeBron there?
Apparently Pistons giving up draft position to dump Plumlee. Not a fan of this move.
Pistons just opened up playing time for Stewart and valuable cap space while also gaining an $8 million trade exception in exchange for a pick and a player who would very likely never be a part of their future.
This will likely end up being a savvy move from Weaver. Wait for the other shoe to drop.
So they have Okafor at backup center and have extra money for a team that isn't a FA destination. I'd rather have the 37th pick.
A year ago this board was stunned that Weaver reached for Stewart and then grossly overpaid for Grant and Plumlee, all of which panned out.
I think I'll trust the guy who made those moves that the fans were confused by.
You aren't wrong. Grant was an excellent gamble. Plumdud actually played pro-rata to his salary.
And just to rub it in, Thor goes at 37 which was a guy I was hoping we could get.
Draft analysts on Ziaire Williams:
"He didn't shoot well this year but he's a shooter"
lol wut
He shoots a lot, just doesn’t make many.
Double post
Suggs and Wagner is a nice foundation for Orlando
I think Orlando is a pretty dysfunctional team who isn't known for developing a system that seems to work with constant rebuilding, but picking those two guys does seem like a good start to getting back on track
I am DISGUSTED by Golden State selecting Jonathan Kuminga 7th.
Kuminga shot 38% from the field, 24% from 3, and 62% from the line in the G League. Those are AWFUL numbers.
He's basically Stanley Johnson 2.0 - looks like Tarzan but currently has limited skill and feel for the game.
I wish we had picked Wagner instead of Kuminga.
That said, I love that we got Moses Moody at 14th. LMAO at Kendrick Perkins getting tongue-tied and mangling Moody's name on national primetime television.
He may never be good, but Kuminga's athleticism and upside are light years higher than Johnson.
This Woj guy seems terrible at on camera news. Four words at a time. Stares. Very odd.
Lightning round now. I would say there's a chance the Pistons end of with Livers...Doubt it but there's a chance.
Holy Shit!~
Good call
Did Bilas? just say Livers is not a good defender? Did I hear those words?
How surprising that Bilas would say something incorrectly negative about a Michigan player.
He loves Franz. And if you listen to him over time, he has been very kind to Livers,
raise your hand if you're just staying up to watch State get shut out again
If it weren't for the Pistons striking gold & Wagner going #8, this was the best part of the draft. F#%& Sparty
