Muschamp to Michigan?

Seeing rumors on Twitter that Michigan is expected to hire him as DC. Something called Fifth Quarter South Carolina seems to have made the first report.

His defenses, aside from a turnover fueled year at Florida, were never particularly elite, or even the type that made elite teams work for their points. He doesn’t strike me as a particular upgrade, if he even would be an upgrade (I’d also point out, jokes aside, that Brown brought in both Kwity Paye, from Rhode Island, and Josh Uche, who both had more productive Michigan careers than Rashan Gary).

I think head coaches have a lot on their plate already without sticking their noses into a particular aspect of the team. He has the job of overseeing the entire direction of the program. Meaning all coaches, support staff and players.

Which means the head coach is far enough removed from an individual aspect of the team that you can’t call it “his” anything. Do they chip in with game plans and stuff? Sure. As do positions coaches and analysts. But it’s the defensive coordinators job to run the defense. It’s HIS defense. Not the head coach.

Not referring to the athletic department but could make a case for my descriptor otherwise.  The idea that there are all of these rumors that is shit thrown on the wall is stupid.  I have no timeline.  I really at the core of me couldn't care less if or when.  I continue on my days and life regardless.  The shitshow is the media circus that follows Harbaugh wherever he goes, not always to his doing.  Maybe I miss it because I do not follow the coaching ranks that closely but I am aware of none that compare.  It's just ridiculous and as a result ends up having the Oakland is in play moments over and over as well as a hyper focus on the minutiae of the team.  In my opinion, this is the shitshow.

Thanks for asking and making your assumptions though.

I believe originally my assumption was correct. Further explanation by you shows I was incorrect and I apologize. I fall into your camp. I really don't care who or when considering I don't think Warde is going to call me ans ask for my thoughts on the next DC. Have a good New Year!!!

I'm not sold on Leonhard as a can't miss DC. Seem like the trend is for Wisconsin coaches to underperform after they leave Wisconsin.

Dave Aranda was the hot DC name there before Leonard. He left Wisconsin for LSU, where their defense got worse every year for the 4 years he was there. And obviously you have Bert who took Wisconsin to three Rose Bowls, left for Arkansas, and ended up getting fired a few years later after going 4-8. Meanwhile Wisconsin plugs in the the next guy and just keeps humming.

I think Leonhard is probably a fine coach, but he got the handed the keys to a well-oiled machine at Wisconsin and all he has to do so far is not crash it into a tree. That doesn't mean he necessarily has the chops to come to a new place and architect an immediate turnaround of an underperforming defense.

Agree ... Wisconsin has a system, period.  No fads or hype.  QB never a star, just don't lose the game.  Defense plays basically like Iowa ... 2 deep safeties, blitz is usually LBs.  They recruit entirely for this scheme ... only go outside their region for RB's.  Huge OL - and they know they are there for 5 years.

Very hard to argue with either Wisconsin or Iowa systems ... although their biggest advantage recently is being in the West division !!!
