Great choice if true.
December 26th, 2020 at 3:38 PM ^
As the other guys said “true, if huge”
December 26th, 2020 at 4:22 PM ^
From what I was told: 1)Mason and 2)Strong + Jean-Mary > Muschamp. Not sure if this means the first two said NO, or if the Muschamp rumor all together is BS.
Would love for Banks, Bellamy, or Wilcher to find their way onto the staff.
Cheers
December 26th, 2020 at 5:06 PM ^
I'd for sure rather have Muschamp than Strong. Muschamp vs Mason is a little closer for me but I'd probably still lean Muschamp just because of recruiting.
December 26th, 2020 at 5:09 PM ^
Muschamp= Dude that can recruit the Soutn
Don Brown= Dude that can recruit Massachusetts and Vermont.
Please let this be true.
December 26th, 2020 at 6:08 PM ^
Don’t forget Connecticut. He rocks there, too.
December 27th, 2020 at 3:58 AM ^
He's a Rock Star in Rhode Island!
December 26th, 2020 at 7:03 PM ^
You can laugh about Vermont football players all you want, but the University of Vermont football program hasn't lost a game since 1974. How many other programs can say that??
December 26th, 2020 at 7:50 PM ^
My /s restort to your /s. University of Chicago for one.
December 26th, 2020 at 8:13 PM ^
Not so fast my friend - the U of Chicago lost three games last year.
December 26th, 2020 at 9:48 PM ^
Gonzaga
December 26th, 2020 at 8:38 PM ^
What about Rhode Island? They produce a diamond in the rough at least once every 10-15 years!
December 27th, 2020 at 11:35 AM ^
Sure, sign up for a guy who has been a disaster of a head coach twice and last was a DC for more than a single season in 2010. And who, by the way, didn’t have a great defense at his last stop. That all sounds great.
December 27th, 2020 at 2:14 PM ^
Well his exploits as a head coach are completely irrelevant to his job as a DC. So not sure why you find that at all relevant
December 27th, 2020 at 5:12 PM ^
His defenses, aside from a turnover fueled year at Florida, were never particularly elite, or even the type that made elite teams work for their points. He doesn’t strike me as a particular upgrade, if he even would be an upgrade (I’d also point out, jokes aside, that Brown brought in both Kwity Paye, from Rhode Island, and Josh Uche, who both had more productive Michigan careers than Rashan Gary).
December 27th, 2020 at 8:18 PM ^
You’re judging him on his defenses from when he was a head coach? That’s weird
December 28th, 2020 at 1:10 AM ^
Why is it weird? You don’t think a defensive focused head coach is going to have significant say/game planning responsibilities on the defensive side? Does Muschamp strike you as a CEO type who just lets his coordinators coordinate?
December 28th, 2020 at 9:57 AM ^
I think head coaches have a lot on their plate already without sticking their noses into a particular aspect of the team. He has the job of overseeing the entire direction of the program. Meaning all coaches, support staff and players.
Which means the head coach is far enough removed from an individual aspect of the team that you can’t call it “his” anything. Do they chip in with game plans and stuff? Sure. As do positions coaches and analysts. But it’s the defensive coordinators job to run the defense. It’s HIS defense. Not the head coach.
December 26th, 2020 at 8:39 PM ^
Sounds like BS. This whole thing has become a bit of a shitshow.
December 27th, 2020 at 5:44 AM ^
Why has it become a shitshow? Is it because they aren't hiring by your timeline. You ever thought of a possible DC in the NFL that Harbaugh may want that they can't talk too. Just because they are taking their time doesn't make it a shitshow.
December 28th, 2020 at 12:03 PM ^
Not referring to the athletic department but could make a case for my descriptor otherwise. The idea that there are all of these rumors that is shit thrown on the wall is stupid. I have no timeline. I really at the core of me couldn't care less if or when. I continue on my days and life regardless. The shitshow is the media circus that follows Harbaugh wherever he goes, not always to his doing. Maybe I miss it because I do not follow the coaching ranks that closely but I am aware of none that compare. It's just ridiculous and as a result ends up having the Oakland is in play moments over and over as well as a hyper focus on the minutiae of the team. In my opinion, this is the shitshow.
Thanks for asking and making your assumptions though.
December 30th, 2020 at 11:16 AM ^
I believe originally my assumption was correct. Further explanation by you shows I was incorrect and I apologize. I fall into your camp. I really don't care who or when considering I don't think Warde is going to call me ans ask for my thoughts on the next DC. Have a good New Year!!!
December 27th, 2020 at 11:36 AM ^
It’d be awful. Nussmeier 2.0, only worse
December 27th, 2020 at 1:13 PM ^
Love your positivity!!!!
December 27th, 2020 at 1:47 PM ^
We already have Nussmeier 2.0 just nobody wants admit it yet. Its all Hokes err... Harbaughs fault.
December 26th, 2020 at 3:08 PM ^
We'll see about this. Not sure he's the one we want. Would like to nab Wisky's DC but that may be a pipe dream.
December 26th, 2020 at 3:15 PM ^
There are pipe dreams, and there’s that. Why would Leonhard make a lateral move from his alma mater to a school in the same conference? His next move is to the NFL as a DC or college HC.
December 26th, 2020 at 3:24 PM ^
For....
December 26th, 2020 at 4:06 PM ^
Not sure the money matters if you're gonna be unemployed in a year or two
December 26th, 2020 at 5:09 PM ^
It matters more in that event.
December 26th, 2020 at 4:14 PM ^
I'm not sold on Leonhard as a can't miss DC. Seem like the trend is for Wisconsin coaches to underperform after they leave Wisconsin.
Dave Aranda was the hot DC name there before Leonard. He left Wisconsin for LSU, where their defense got worse every year for the 4 years he was there. And obviously you have Bert who took Wisconsin to three Rose Bowls, left for Arkansas, and ended up getting fired a few years later after going 4-8. Meanwhile Wisconsin plugs in the the next guy and just keeps humming.
I think Leonhard is probably a fine coach, but he got the handed the keys to a well-oiled machine at Wisconsin and all he has to do so far is not crash it into a tree. That doesn't mean he necessarily has the chops to come to a new place and architect an immediate turnaround of an underperforming defense.
December 26th, 2020 at 4:40 PM ^
Agree ... Wisconsin has a system, period. No fads or hype. QB never a star, just don't lose the game. Defense plays basically like Iowa ... 2 deep safeties, blitz is usually LBs. They recruit entirely for this scheme ... only go outside their region for RB's. Huge OL - and they know they are there for 5 years.
Very hard to argue with either Wisconsin or Iowa systems ... although their biggest advantage recently is being in the West division !!!
Go Blue!
December 26th, 2020 at 7:16 PM ^
Be we have fads and hype to spare!
December 26th, 2020 at 7:22 PM ^
Exactly, Wisconsin has no shortage of dairy-fed, germanic, farming-family 300lbers to plug in on both sides of the line
teams tend to do pretty well with good line play
December 26th, 2020 at 6:48 PM ^
Well aranda turned that LSU DC into HC Baylor so....
December 26th, 2020 at 7:58 PM ^
The best defense is a slow offense.
So many stats still based on yards given up per game.
Wisconsin can step on the pedal on offense, but only if things are going good. Otherwise it is slower than LSU, and defense therefore looks better.
December 26th, 2020 at 4:51 PM ^
Yes you dreaming
December 26th, 2020 at 4:51 PM ^
Boom is the best defensive coordinator in the country not named Brent Venables. Pair his with a co-coordinator to learn from him to take over for his inevitable bolt for another beach coach job and crater another program.
December 26th, 2020 at 3:10 PM ^
Can he recruit DT's and CB's, coach zone defense, and stop crossing routes? Am I doing this right?
December 26th, 2020 at 3:11 PM ^
Would be nice he can recruit the south pretty well.. no more relying on 3* from Maine
December 26th, 2020 at 3:52 PM ^
Like Kwity Paye?
Shamone.
December 26th, 2020 at 4:10 PM ^
You're right ... Kwity and the collection of other northeastern recruits really put us over the hump. As shown by the results on the field.
December 26th, 2020 at 6:14 PM ^
I won't be sad to see them recruit the northeast less, but they only have a handful of players from there. People mention it like half the team is from New England.
December 26th, 2020 at 8:25 PM ^
He said "no more relying on". Which implies it would be okay to fill in. Besides exception hardly proves anything.
December 26th, 2020 at 6:03 PM ^
You should get a 4th star just for surviving winter in Maine.
December 26th, 2020 at 3:12 PM ^
We need someone with the ability to recruit like the devil, light fires under asses and coach 'em up!
December 26th, 2020 at 3:41 PM ^
Uh he will light fires. I think he drinks snake blood for the vitamins.
December 26th, 2020 at 3:51 PM ^
Why do you hate donkeys?
