Multiple Sources: Dunn Sticking With OSU
Just to clear this up, as I'm sure the question about Bri'onte Dunn potentially opening back up will be asked several times:
Dunn and Pittman both say they're sticking with OSU.
— Bill Greene (@BillBankGreene) December 20, 2011
That's OSU's main guy on Scout. Other sources are saying the same thing.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:44 PM ^
It's a long way to NSD.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:45 PM ^
My thoughts exactly. Meyer was saying anything he thought would get recruits names down on paper. We'll see how perceptions change as time goes on. February is a ways away.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:51 PM ^
Isn't BIll Greene the same guy that said Dunn slightly favors Michigan just days before he reaffirmed his commitment to ohio?
December 20th, 2011 at 4:08 PM ^
Yes, yes he was
December 20th, 2011 at 3:58 PM ^
Dunn is an early enrollee though, which means he will officially be a buckeye in a week or two

December 20th, 2011 at 4:32 PM ^
pretty sure that is what I saw...
December 20th, 2011 at 5:27 PM ^
A real Korean wouldn't have made this mistake.
December 20th, 2011 at 4:19 PM ^
Were not going to get Dunn. He just BWC'ed Ohio for a little bit and now is back. time to move on.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
Just remind them to watch Michigan's bowl game next year.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:47 PM ^
Don't hold your breath, but we have seen that Dunn is fickle. Time will tell.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
and stuck with it in the end is fickle? I know he explored his options, but that makes him a guy who wants to make an informed decision, not fickle.
Everyone says Dunn is a good guy. No reason to insult him.
December 20th, 2011 at 4:28 PM ^
of a high school kid. We knew all along that he was a long-time OSU fan, and that he was only considering Michigan because of potential penalties for OSU. In the end, he went with his heart. This is neither surprising nor fickle.
December 20th, 2011 at 6:05 PM ^
for the Michigan - Ohio game. Unless he was a spy collecting information for O to use next year, I'd classify that as "Luke" Fickle.
December 20th, 2011 at 10:10 PM ^
Because he was on an official to Michigan, not OSU. To stand on OSU's sideline while on a trip to UM would have been foolish. It genuinely seemed at that point that he was 50/50 on his decision, so I see no problem there.
December 20th, 2011 at 4:18 PM ^
Dunn is Fickell? Will he coach defense also?
December 20th, 2011 at 4:39 PM ^
No, you're all wrong. When Urbie was hired, Fickell was done.

Einhorn is Finkle. Finkle is Einhorn!!!!!!!!!!!

None of the recruits will budge. The bowl ban doesn't affect them so they don't really care, and they already got their scholarships. Too bad that witness didn't step forward, then maybe something would have happened.
December 20th, 2011 at 4:10 PM ^
The bowl ban is for next season so it does affect them. Maybe it would have made a difference to Dunn if he had waited a few more days, but I don't see anyone leaving either.
December 20th, 2011 at 4:25 PM ^
It's only a one year bowl ban but it could impact some players. Dunn would be a prime candidate. He's not likely to redshirt and depending on how he pans out, he might not stay all four years (like Beanie Wells). That means he'd only get two bowl games....and be on probation his entire career. I don't know if this is done yet.
December 20th, 2011 at 5:22 PM ^
Hope he enjoys his 2 trips to the Outback Bowl.
December 20th, 2011 at 4:45 PM ^
The postseason ban helps in the sense that OSU cannot win a Big Ten title or compete in a prestigious bowl and thus will not be able to use that tool in recruiting...but it really doesn't affect any players committing to the team for 2012. At best, some of them would probably have become back-ups, so they aren't really missing out on much.
A two year ban might have made them think twice. I'm actually not sure this doesn't work out in Meyer's favor. If his transition is rough, he'll have a handy excuse (even if it doesn't really apply) to use to explain the troubles. Basically he gets a practice season before gearing up for the real thing in 2013.
Michigan really needs to beat Ohio at Ohio and win the Big Ten next year. Those two things will be the bigger than any sanctions the NCAA can hand down.
December 20th, 2011 at 5:03 PM ^
A week in Pasadena or South Florida during Christmas break doesn't compare to a week in Columbus in December no matter how you look at it. /s
December 20th, 2011 at 5:08 PM ^
CONS: Meyer won't be getting those 15 extra practices that come with a bowl birth.
PROS: Meyer will be able to hit the recruiting trail in full force much earlier next season.
December 20th, 2011 at 5:24 PM ^
CON: (for us) We'll be their Bowl Game next year.
December 21st, 2011 at 2:19 PM ^
We humiliate them just like any SEC team would have.
December 20th, 2011 at 6:00 PM ^
Is really a big deal, especially for any players who did redshirt. There's not much of a recruiting advantage (assuming Ohio doesn't get extra staff next year too) because a dead period starts about the same time as most of the bowl practice time (yesterday for this season). This period (which prohibits visits) was put in place specifically so as not to disadvantage teams playing in bowls.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:47 PM ^
I guess lying to recruits is better than lying to the NCAA in Columbus, right? I guess they're moving in the right direction.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:47 PM ^
Once a kid like Dunn gets his mind set on going to his dream school sanctions like this wont change that. If he had waited another week before confirming with OSU, though, this would be another story.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:48 PM ^
Dunn chose OSU over us...twice. The second time he could esily have waited a few weeks to see what was going to happen. Now, this means he won't play as a back-up for OSU's feature back next year in the post-season, and some of the walk-on friends he makes will have to pay their own way all the way.
I think we can wave good bye to the S.S. Dunn, and move on. There's bigger game afoot now.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
eh, kid wants to play for osu. maybe now he'll have a walkon blocking for him.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:57 PM ^
In the urb spread. B dunns' new nick name is cushion. Because that's all he is now for b miller. All kidding aside can we move on now? He is an amazing talent but he's a bobcat now. Next!
December 20th, 2011 at 3:58 PM ^
Yep. I'm good with fitz and Rawls will be a beast.
December 20th, 2011 at 4:04 PM ^
I am happy with the recruits/players we have, I have high hopes for all of them. I don't hold any hard feelings for Dunn, I just think he made a bad choice.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:51 PM ^
Oh well, I'm happy the direction we're going in. We'll see him on the field next November.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:51 PM ^
Does anyone have information on the current scholarship situation at tsio? It seems to me that it may be possible that the scholarship reduction won't even be a factor this year depending on how many players are currently on scholarship/leaving/etc. To add to that, I'm sure the plan for most of the freshman to redshirt anyway, the bowl ban won't mean too much to them either. Not surprised that no one has flipped, and I won't be if no one does (cause let's be honest, expecting movement an hour after the news is a little silly)
December 20th, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
USC was able to have the penalties not count towards that particular recruiting year but instead start in the next cycle. That may have been because they were appealing them but in either case, it's clear the NCAA isn't being as hard on OSU as they were on USC so it probably won't affect this season.
December 20th, 2011 at 4:09 PM ^
Ah, I didn't know that about USC. I did just see the article on ESPN stating that the reduction is through the 2014-15 school year, so that would mean the ARE applying to this recruiting cycle (these recruits incoming for the 2012-13 year). I wouldn't be surprised if OSU tries to get them pushed back, if for nothing more than planning purposes
December 20th, 2011 at 4:23 PM ^
...are correct. They will only be allowed 82 scholarship players on the roster during the 2012-13, 2013-14, and 2014-15 academic years. So, in theory, this year's class could be three players smaller than it would have been. I would think Urban Meyer will find a way to make it work and keep this, his first class, to the size he has planned for since accepting the job. He will find a way to get to 82 without hurting his class, I am sure.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
Yes, isn't it miraculous that the bowl ban was only a single year? If it would have been two years, like it should have been it really would have messed with recruiting.
December 20th, 2011 at 4:12 PM ^
They only lose 3 a year, which is nothing. So they'll be at 82 every year. All Urban needs to do is weed out the deadweight (which he'll do) and they'll be more than ok.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
Sure, one of my first interactions with my coach was where he lied to my face about the expected sanctions, but I am sure that he was 100% honest about my expected role at OSU, right? RIGHT?!?
December 20th, 2011 at 4:05 PM ^
So who knows if Dunn is still an EE or what?
Edit* How is this overrated? cause it might afftect his decision if there's more time to think about.
December 20th, 2011 at 4:22 PM ^
I didn't neg so I can't say for sure but it's probably because he hasn't been enrolling early for over a week.
December 20th, 2011 at 3:57 PM ^
I don't blame him. Urban said he would murder Dunn's family if he didn't commit to OSU.
