MSU at Iowa game postponed due to COVID
Sounds like a few positive cases on the MSU side. I was really looking forward to this game. Could've enjoyed a MSU loss or Michigan getting a bigger lead in the conference.

MSU ducking Iowa. Izzo knows his tournament streak is in serious jeopardy this year and is trying to avoid a sure loss.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:45 PM ^
Then they should probably duck Michigan as well.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:59 PM ^
I bet they do
January 14th, 2021 at 11:29 AM ^
I don't think Izzo is actually ducking, he is just walking around normally and is really short.
January 14th, 2021 at 12:14 PM ^
Plausible.

Michigan fans: Michigan didn’t duck OSU in football!
Also Michigan fans: MSU is ducking Iowa in basketball
Gotta love sports fandom... *facepalm*

Also MSU fans: MSU isn't ducking Iowa in basketball!

We just would like to have the same media scrutiny applied to Sparty for missing this game that was applied to us in football.
January 14th, 2021 at 12:13 AM ^
We totally ducked osu and it was the most impressive football non-loss on the schedule. They've got nothing to crow about with no national championship or win over us. They looked like children playing against grown ass men at Alabama and got their asses handed to them just like they get everything else handed to them. It was great.
January 14th, 2021 at 12:13 PM ^
As for impressive football non-loss, while it spared the loins in the short term, avoiding a beatdown is probably a significant factor in Harbaugh being extended. If you're of the mind that he needed to go and that keeping him around only delays the inevitable, it might have been better to get smacked around so Warde wouldn't be able to ignore the pressure to end it.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:21 PM ^
The best part of msu sucking is that you can watch their games and it’s a win win. If they win they help our big ten chances and if they lose they lose! Basketball is amazing!!
January 13th, 2021 at 8:25 PM ^
I haven’t seen any actual MSU games yet this year. Serious question-are they as bad as their record indicates and what happened to them?
January 13th, 2021 at 8:37 PM ^
They have no consistent offensive option, and their defense looks lost a lot of the time.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:39 PM ^
Yes. They replaced their two best players from last year with Foster Loyer and about five different big men who weigh 150 pounds each. Roster management has been terrible. Imagine if Michigan made no effort this year to get the grad transfers we have that fill needed holes. That's MSU
January 13th, 2021 at 8:43 PM ^
And they have a FR Center getting like 4 mins a game, and he was inexplicably ranked ahead of Hunter
January 13th, 2021 at 10:25 PM ^
not any more, since Sissoko tested COVID positive today
January 13th, 2021 at 8:42 PM ^
mentioned this before in a similar discussion, but unfortunately i believe news of sparty's demise is exaggerated. they may not be elite, but they seem to be getting it together and will be a tough out for anyone. izzo is going to have to earn his money this year, but don't' write him off just yet.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:46 PM ^
They are #12 on Torvik since Jan 1 (small sample size caveats apply)
Michigan is #1 over the same timespan.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:59 PM ^
and #12 is a very good team in general, even if it's not perfect. if we were told before the year that we would finish at #12 in some relevant national ranking we would've been pretty pleased - obviously expectations have been heightened since then for great reasons.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:59 PM ^
I agree, but I can't remember seeing Sparty as this big of hot mess. Good thing they have plenty of time to get well before their 2/6 beatdown.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:23 PM ^
Agreed Xtramelanin. Would love to see MSU miss the tournament but I just don’t see it happening. They will somehow scrape up enough wins to make it. They will be very tough when the play Michigan and it would not surprise me to see them upset Michigan. Although that Purdue loss was one the worst bed shittings they have had in awhile.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:56 PM ^
i agree with this. i can see them making the tournament.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:41 PM ^
Plus, Mark Hollis is still head of the selection committee to help make sure their streak stays intact. Oh, wait...never mind... Maybe that's why they're ducking Iowa.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:35 PM ^
Agree. They clearly have some issues, but when they put forth the effort on D, it feeds the offense. They should not be taken lightly.
Same goes for OSU.
January 14th, 2021 at 8:33 AM ^
I feel like we have laughed at Izzo a few times in the last few years only for State to get tough late and finish with a decent Big10 tourney finish and subsequent good though not stellar tournament play.
Say what you want about Izzo. He's a cry baby and seems to chuck his players under the bus on the regular, but he gets wins down the stretch and does a pretty good job of coaching up his team as the season goes on.
I hate him, but he's not a bad coach.
January 14th, 2021 at 10:42 AM ^
This seems to be an annual and ANNOYING occurring theme with MSU.

January 13th, 2021 at 8:44 PM ^
Bad point guard play and no big man. Langford is not the player he once was, Hauser is just okay and their best player, Henry, is not consistently good.
No depth.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:40 PM ^
what happened to them?
They were heavily reliant on two players (Cassius Winston and Xavier Tillman) who are now gone. Aaron Henry was a good third option last year and is back, but he's not comfortable as the go-to guy.
They've brought in some good recruiting classes on paper, but it doesn't show - a lot of their guys have not panned out.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:47 PM ^
You really should watch, Foster Loyer is a gift for the eyeballs!
January 13th, 2021 at 11:18 PM ^
they're even more unwatchable than usual.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:32 PM ^
Surprise, surprise MSU reports covid cases. I bet they were really looking forward to get curb stomped.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:49 PM ^
For the life of me, I just can't imagine the situation that staee put themselves into to have gotten the covid virus....
January 13th, 2021 at 9:29 PM ^
And some other viruses too.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:34 PM ^
Bummer... I was looking forward to another MSU loss, er, I mean this game.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:37 PM ^
Gonna be interesting to see how many, if any, postponed games are going to be made up. Unlike the football season, where only about five games per year matter, every big ten basketball game counts and can be anyone's game
I know they built in some time to make up games, but Penn State has already missed 4, Nebraska 3, and MSU 1. No way those are all going to get played.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:54 PM ^
I believe the NCAA put the tournament eligibility at 17 games so that’s a wide variance for some to play a lot less games and still maybe get in.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:08 PM ^
We're in a very privileged position to say, who gives a fuck about eligibility, I wanna win the conference. I can see Michigan getting screwed over by having to play all four of our games against the top three in the conference but Iowa somehow misses everyone except us. The big ten set up both football and basketball to operate on the honor system, and I think that's a really poor way to do it given how crooked college sports is in general
January 13th, 2021 at 9:53 PM ^
Hi. The Big Ten is crooked. Thanks!
January 13th, 2021 at 10:42 PM ^
I think it was 13
January 13th, 2021 at 8:38 PM ^
I heard it was two MSU players, including Izzo’s son, who were not going to travel to Iowa. But the rest of the team was going to go.
January 13th, 2021 at 9:04 PM ^
If they've all been exposed, they should all quarantine through the incubatory period. It would surprise me if they followed proper protocol.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:39 PM ^
Izzo's statement from earlier today didn't make sense to me. They knew about positives but continued practicing anyway??
Asked for some clarification on the positive COVID results within the MSU program, Izzo says the tests were conducted 4 days ago and that the program's daily testing procedures allow it to avoid a complete shutdown.

I'm sure Quinn will investigate
the Simpson traffic stop
And not this.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:35 PM ^
That haiku doesn't quite work. How about:
In Quinn's warped view
Simpson's traffic stop was of
Greater importance
Which really is dumb
As a team COVID outbreak
Is more important
January 13th, 2021 at 9:04 PM ^
What a moron.
January 13th, 2021 at 11:21 PM ^
5 days ago they lost to Purdue, but positive tests don't show up until Saturday?
January 13th, 2021 at 8:43 PM ^
We better not play a single fucking game if we have any major contributors out with Covid issues.
We play with our key guys or we cancel.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:50 PM ^
Their positive cases were Izzo’s son and Sissoko, who are roommates and the article I read said they had been quarantined and nobody else was positive. Duck duck...duck
