Is Mitch McGray's injury a blessing in disguise?

Submitted by massblue on

It is reported that Mitch will not participate in any physical activities prior to the draft. The latest ESPN draft has him going #26 to the Heat.  What he may lose in terms of lower rookie salary, he could make it up by being on a winning team (better stats and endorsements).  Of course, it would suck if James were to leave Heat.

Edit: Obvisouly, I mean for him going forward. It sucked for us, of course.

Blessing in disguise? No, because he lost the opportunity to play in what could've been another Final 4 run for a school he loves, but if he ends up on the Heat with LeBron and co. still in town, it is a best-case scenario for him professionally. If healthy, he gives that team a whole new dimension.

Obviously Mitch played well in the tourney a couple years ago, but I just don't see him being very impactful in the NBA. No doubt he'll improve, but his game, unless he really adds a very above average jump shooting element, doesn't seem to translate well.

I disagree. He's big and athletic and plays with high energy. He can pass well and run the floor. He has a good attitude and seems to get along well with teammates and responds well to coaching. I think that will translate well, as long as injuries don't continue to be an issue.

I also am expecting Mitch to be a solid NBA player. He's a high energy guy and more versatile than your typical big man.

However, I do believe his success will moderately depend on the style of play used by whichever team selects him. The Spurs are the first team that comes to mind that Mitch would likely do well with. Their system involves some pretty crazy screening action and a lot of handoffs which are two of McGary's strong suits. The one potential problem with San Antonio though is that he'd have some mighty big shoes to fill and the added pressure that comes with taking over the role of a future hall-of-famer.

"baited" breath.  He's been eating worms, minnows, mayflies, and spawn sacs.  Imagine what that does to his breath, I wouldn't go within 10 feet of him if I were you.

He's not taking a physical prior to the draft which is vastly different from not doing physical activities. He had a work out with the Bucks.

No.  Unless he somehow falls to the Pistons in Round 2, then the answer is still "No" for Mitch but "Yes" for Piston's fans.  I don't see Mitch (or GRIII) dropping that far but it would certainly help offset the lost/squandered lottery pick if one did.

You should've definitely added (for his draft position) and this thread wouldn't suck.

McGary is going to my Hornets in the 2nd round...they'll take Stauskas and GRIII in the first round.

Nope. Fuck this thread. He will play for numerous nba teams over his career. And mock drafts are ridiculous. And the heat will suck soon. so this is just an absurd fucking thread.
