That's certainly true when payroll goes down. I've got to imagine they'll be going up after this signing. And it will cause other teams to raise their payroll. And the cost will be passed on. I agree with the other posters here, who brought up the irresponsibility behind the outrageous salaries.
Baseball was the last affordable professional sport i could attend. I would make a day of it and drive from northern Michigan with the kids to Comerica. With contracts like this, I can see that window is closing. At least I can zip up to Soo Canada and watch the Greyhounds in junior hockey.
For me, all it does is take away the excitement of the regular season. The only thing that remains the same is the bitching about who did or didn't get in the playoffs. And, sadly The Game becomes a game. I'm old school, but I would rather see the old bowl system.
Dan Jenkins was also very good. And funny. I used to read him in Sports Illustrated. He also wrote books; Semi Tough was one of my favorites. A friend of mine loaned me a collection of his works while I was in the hospital. It was difficult to read with broken ribs! I thought I would die laughing!
I believe it was when Blanchard was governor. But I always we be a Michigander. And I'll go to concerts at Pine Knob, not DTE Energy Music Theater. Too bad they won't let me bring my cooler in any more!
If we're going with play-by-play, I'd go with:
Vin Scully
Dick Enberg
Keith Jackson
Al Michaels
I'm not sure why Cosell gets so many mentions. His only real call was in boxing, and he was constantly upstaged by Clay/Ali in those events. But, that's what is so great about opinions!
Back in 1996 I was working for the student paper at GVSU. I had the chance to interview Kelly after a victory over Ferris State. He coached like a riverboat gambler back then and still does today. I wish I'd interviewed him after a loss. I bet he hasn't changed in that regard, either.
I remember Reggie Jackson being very much despised. Might have to do with his being on the Yankees and constantly fighting with Billy and George. It's because of him that guys turn doubles into singles because they stand at home plate and watch balls hit the wall.
I think we need to go in hungry, and if we're put in the Auburn Hills region, that doesn't do it. But the speculation by the so-called "experts" reminds me of the commentary about which way a football instant replay is gonna play out. Those guys get it wrong most of the time.
In northern Michigan, farther away from the "battle zone," this same debate started at work! I listened for as long as I could stand it, then I had to weigh in. You've got to choose one or the other, I said! If you say you're a fan of both, then you're a fan of NEITHER! GO BLUE!
I think it's funny to read from people who say they couldn't care less whether the NHL returns. Obviously they care enough to login and post comments which seem to imply some kind of superiority on their part.

I own 2 MSU hats. One to crap in and the other to cover it up with.

You'll have to show me.

Yes, that counts! See if you can persuade a judge to make Ryan Day walk the plank.
It's their uniforms. Red as a used tampon.
This is an underrated post!
The real penalty is that he has to play the other half of the game.
With catch phrases like Keep Chopping and Tuck Comin', it's easy to figure it was Mel who was the source of the leak!
Leach played in the bigs for Detroit and Toronto. Not sure ,but I think he played elsewhere at the end.

Damn! I thought that one was borderline 11!
Written by Graham Nash, but a great song nonetheless!
Title says it all?
I upvoted for the Sid Finch reference. I know. I'm old!
Michigan 35 - Maryland 14
I've always called them the fighting Amish of Nueter Dame. This day and age I've come to realize how disrespectful it is to the Amish....and my dog.
His mama sings bass and daddy sings tenor. If this helps at all
Thank goodness we're not playing Purdue this Saturday!

Or Roger Waters, who wrote the song.

This is what I was thinking!
Mike Campell from the Heartbreakers and Drew Abbott from the Silver Bullet Band.
There are so many great names on this list, though! Being a music lover, I enjoy these threads!
Former quarterback in the Doonsbury comics. A bit of a chauvinist, but many of us are!
They lost 2 of their first 3. Then tore through the Big 10 and won the Rose Bowl (Bo's 1st.) Their defense was phenomenal that season.
This was their worst defeat of the season (albeit, in a tie with their loss to North Carolina.) GO BLUE!!
My work week begins on Friday. I believe I'm starting my 1616th week. Yikes!
Go Blue!

As in crack pipe?
Let's just quit talking about the spartans! That just gives them a legitimacy they could never earn on their own! GO BLUE!

maybe she'd just be a hermaphrodite!
I don't have enough point to pos or neg. but I loved that scene from Wayne's World!
I don't comment very often on here, but after the rough week of putting up with my Sparty friends, I could seriously use a gang bang about now!

Who is Mitch McGray?
Both! In different regions!

I hope they get all the votes recounted soon! I'd hate to think what effect this could have on the stock market!

Our defense tried the limited tackling method in actual games during the Rich Rod era. It didn't work so well!

I wish Morgan wasn't hurt! Zeller wouldn't be getting all those dunks!
I'm sure glad Millen isn't our GM! He'd snag this guy in a heartbeat.
Here's a news flash. The B1G has the worst officiating in sports!
