Dax....ARE YOU OKAY!?
October 24th, 2020 at 11:14 PM ^
Some people will complain about the D. But Minn will score points this year. Hill and Green were solid in coverage, and D-Line came on.
Great job, terrific win! Go Blue!!!
October 24th, 2020 at 11:46 PM ^
I really came away impressed with Green. Had a couple PBUs and seemed to do a really good job competing with Bateman. I’m excited to see how he does down the stretch.
October 25th, 2020 at 12:39 AM ^
The CBs were in good position all night and we really could have had another pair of INTs.
Paige was wobbly but is a freshman.
The front seven was excellent.
October 25th, 2020 at 11:10 AM ^
He may not be able to recruit all that well but as far as coaching goes Mike Zordich is a wizard.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:14 PM ^
Without Dax, hard to make an accurate judgment
October 24th, 2020 at 11:14 PM ^
DBs need some work
October 24th, 2020 at 11:45 PM ^
I actually was semi impressed. Green got his hands on three balls and looked playable. Need Dax.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:14 PM ^
Someone donate some limbs/body parts to Dax to get him healthy.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:26 PM ^
Do we know what the “problem” is?
October 24th, 2020 at 11:14 PM ^
Our corners were a step slow all night
October 24th, 2020 at 11:28 PM ^
They had some big gaffes on deep balls, had a lot of difficulty putting up a fight/tracking underthrows, which is concerning against any opponent.
October 25th, 2020 at 2:02 AM ^
Eh, they were in good position on the one, Minnesota got away with a blatant push off
October 25th, 2020 at 9:10 AM ^
Exactly. I had to replay it to be sure, but it was a somewhat subtle but decisive push just before the catch was made. Of Cours Herbstreit and Fowler completely missed it (though they did question a subsequent defensive PI that went against us).
October 25th, 2020 at 11:16 AM ^
Yeah, that PI against Dax Hill was a sham. I know I'm a homer but the refs missed obvious holding calls against Minn all night.
October 25th, 2020 at 11:36 AM ^
That PI call against Hill was atrocious. "It's a new start, but Big Ten refs are in mid-season form," I said.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:41 PM ^
A bit unfair. Green looked good. Could have had two picks, and had a huge PBU.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:15 PM ^
Mike Barrett can keep doing Peppers things and that would be super.
October 25th, 2020 at 10:15 AM ^
Can’t believe it took this long into the thread to mention him.
He was an absolute beast.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:15 PM ^
Wisconsin and OSU concern me.
The rest we should be able to survive
October 25th, 2020 at 9:29 AM ^
Agreed. The schedule comes down to two games after last night.
October 25th, 2020 at 11:50 AM ^
We had better play good ball against Indiana and PSU. Those won’t be easy games. And Mertz is going to be big time player.
Michigan came out with a business like approach to this game. We had better athletes all over the field. They seem like they are on a mission.
This is a young team which we should all be excited about. Milton is going to improve. Our OL is going to improve. Our DBs are going to improve. Our DL is going improve. Our LBs are savage.
This should be a fun season to watch....and MSU might not win a game!
I am sure Rayshaun Benny is thinking about his brand after yesterday.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:16 PM ^
For all the kvetching in the game thread they only scored 24 and that's a great offense.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:25 PM ^
Great offense? Eh.
October 25th, 2020 at 10:27 AM ^
Yeah.... I think we have different definitions of “great.”
October 24th, 2020 at 11:27 PM ^
With an O-Line held together by twine and duct tape. I wouldn’t exactly sing the praises of our defense just quite yet.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:31 PM ^
Minny has good skill players. For a season opener against a quality opponent, they did well enough. I expect us to look a lot better in a couple weeks.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:50 PM ^
I’m not saying the defense was TERRIBLE. But if we’re giving an honest evaluation then we have to acknowledge that Minnesota’s cobbled-together O-Line very likely negatively impacted the ability of their offense to execute. How many years have we suffered from bad offensive play execution due to bad offensive lines?
I’m just saying that I wouldn’t give the defense a stamp of approval (so to speak) based off tonight’s game. I think that will have to wait till we see how they hold up against either Indiana or Wisconsin. But then again, if teams keep losing players to COVID-19 then the “standard” will just be a team’s ability to say “next man up”.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:47 PM ^
Try to enjoy life. I know this year sucks, but let's just enjoy this road win over a ranked team without running it down.
October 25th, 2020 at 9:35 AM ^
Yes, the RG and RT were out, but I believe the other 3 starters returned from last year. 3 returning OL starters from a 11-2 team is nothing to sneeze at. Their special teams losses were of much greater impact, IMO
October 25th, 2020 at 12:50 AM ^
And the first 7 was on a platter.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:16 PM ^
Well, I think as feared the DTs and the CBs are somewhat suspect. Run defense was concerning as well. It's covid season so who knows how much you can read into it, but as of now it looks like the defense is taking a step back this year
October 24th, 2020 at 11:16 PM ^
Michael Barrett. That guy is gonna play on Sunday. Completely overlooked as a recruit. Gets switched to defense and looks like something special.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:17 PM ^
Jeter was pretty bad outside of the fumble.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:25 PM ^
And he played more than Hinton so that line is in big trouble.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:40 PM ^
I don't know the deal is with Hinton. He looks good when he's on the field, or at least better than Kemp and Jeter but he is behind them. I'm assuming he isn't doing something the coaches want that I don't understand.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:17 PM ^
Of Dax is out for more than two weeks, things will be really rough against Wisconsin.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:19 PM ^
I’m lookin at Indiana. That game without Hill will be rough..
October 24th, 2020 at 11:17 PM ^
Green looked better than Gray, though he should spend all next week in front of a jugs machine working on his hands. Paige looked lost, stuck his nose inside a few times and gave Ibrahim the edge. Hopefully Hill is ok.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:25 PM ^
Green and Gray. Coached by Brown. Where is Tariq Black? Remember Austin White?
October 25th, 2020 at 12:26 AM ^
From the whole week he was on the team?
October 24th, 2020 at 11:35 PM ^
Paige is a Freshman, you can coach that out yet.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:50 PM ^
Sure just maybe not in a couple weeks.
October 25th, 2020 at 12:36 AM ^
Where can I get a hold of a juggs machine? Asking for a friend.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:18 PM ^
The secondary held their own and Green made some plays. Defensive line wasn't great. The D ends did a good job covering up but they interior needs to be better. That being said a road win versus a ranked team is a good thing. I pray to God Dax is ok.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:18 PM ^
More information needed. Some guys took a step forward. Need Dax.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:19 PM ^
Could've been worse, but definitely some yikes! Can't complain too much though when according to the Game Day guys Bateman was supposed to single-handedly score 13 TD's.
Really hope Dax is ok.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:19 PM ^
Rough night for Makari Paige, on the ground and in the air. Think his play overshadowed what was otherwise a fine defensive performance. He's a talented player and I'm sure he'll improve as the season goes on. Some room for improvement, but Gemon Green's play was encouraging and the DEs were incredible.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:19 PM ^
Defense was awesome. Next question.
October 24th, 2020 at 11:19 PM ^
With the secondary, I prefer to focus on the positive... think how good they'll be in a couple years!
