“I’m feeling great,” Morris said. “Just a little tweak. I feel like I’ll be alright. Our trainers are working very hard. I was in there getting treatment for like four hours this morning, so I’ll be fine. I’m in great hands. It’s all God’s plan.”

Hard to tell the severity imo but it's a good sign that he's in high spirits.

"Just a little tweak" and "4 hours of treatment" are somewhat incompatible in my book. Maybe it's different when you're a top level athlete though.

I mean I can tell you as an athletic trainer that has spent far to many hours helping give treatment a lot of guys mostly healthy will get 1+ hours of treatment. Some dudes not hurt will be in the training room spending a ton of time doing all they can.

I wouldn't worry too much about the 4 hours treatment comment.

Yeah,

Things like "apply ice for x minutes, sit in sauna for x minutes, stretch for x minutes or times" all count as "treatment".

4 hours of treatment for semi-pro athlete doesnt really seem all that much, I can easily imagine 1-2 hours for perfectly healthy guys just for things like stretching, mfr's, saunas and ice baths, etc.

I'm no one's idea of an athlete and even in my twenties I'd often stretch a tweaked muscle for an hour to get it to loosen up, and that was just so I wouldn't limp through the day.

Just based on that I figure you can fully loosen a cranky muscle in 3-4 hours of rehab, and no less.  No risk of lingering injury if it's treated properly, but no getting back in a game, either.

"I feel like I'll be alright" isn't confidence building, either. I'm all about God's plan, sounds like he's taking a circuitous route to the field. Hopefully he'll be 100% for OSU at the very least.

The fact that he's talking about senior day and his final four quarters at The Big House makes it seem like he's hoping to play against Illinois.

While some of us might hope he doesn't play that game for precautionary reasons, it's at least a good sign that he'll be fine for The Game.

rub some dirt on it....

ankle brace and probably not playing saturday, or not playing much.   that looked like the kind of 'tweak' that gets better in a week, and definitely two weeks if you take care of it.

Unless he makes a miraculous recovery, they should sit him against Illinois. Michigan does not need their best pass rusher to play in order to beat the Illini. The same cannot be said for OSU. The worst case scenario is they play him against Illinois when he is not fully recovered and he aggravates it to the point that he is rendered ineffectual against OSU. And he should not be in this position in the first place: Michigan was up 28 points, with 6 minutes left in the game, when he got injured. He should have been on the sideline watching the game with Corum and JJ.

A lot of people were thinking the same, myself included...but notice he said Corum and JJ.

Offensive subs minus the WRs are generally more 1st team/2nd team. Even the WRs can do it more than the defense.

Defense is a lot tougher to do that because there are so many packages. Some of which only have starters and walk-ons. So you pull them and you get REALLY vanilla because you're playbook shrinks so much (if you're trying to play your 2nd team).

Also you're always subbing on defense. As you know, an advantage of the hurry up is the defense can't sub...but the offense can't either, yet it doesn't impact the offense like it does the defense. You just get tired chasing and going 100% every play when you don't know what is going to happen. Meanwhile that outside WR who knows its a run the other way can go 75% and save a little more energy on top of knowing what's happening when he's going 100%.

I know I'm saying shit you already know, just getting to the point that you sub so much more on defense. I wanted to see if Morris was in for the entire drive to that point or if he had subbed in.

My assumption (hope?) is that Michigan was playing its 2nd team for the most part.  I'm about to go look, but if it was all starters...that's not good. But you can't just go all walk-ons and let Nebraska walk down the field with 6 minutes.

1. Not when you're playing for a CFP and trying to win style points.

2. Remember how miserable that was early in the year when our true freshman looked "bad?" Or that late Maryland score that was all prevent?  6 minutes is a lot of time for a defense. That could be 14 points.

It's one thing when an offense scores a bunch of points, subs in the deep bench and goes 3 and out a couple of times. It's another when the defense does it and gets shredded two drives in a row...there would've been groans.

3. This late in the year, you're protecting redshirts.

The argument I would make is that while EDGE doesn't have high end talent like we had last year, we have a ton of upperclassmen who play. So Morris and/or Harrell shouldn't have been in, but I'd understand if McGregor, Upshaw or Okie were in (Moore would be the 4th guy in that group that would be playing, but he's a freshman). You can get a 2-deep with subs without Morris (and Harrell).

Guys like Morris and Mazi Smith, should have been planted on the bench.

Last comment, this is why I bitch about CB so much. This could've been DJ Turner, but we don't have 5-6 CBs (not counting NBs) in our rotation. We have 3 guys. That's not good enough, IMO.  You sub Turner and Green off and you're left with Johnson on one side (with no backup who plays)...and air on the other side. Even if you put the other Green over there, you don't have enough behind those guys. Jyaire Hill visits this weekend!

Edit: It was the 3nd and Long rush package with Morris and Okie on at EDGE. The entire front 7 subbed to that package. First down was the Mason Graham beastmode play, 2nd was the screen pass to Palmer and he knee was down when he caught the ball...it was 3rd and 17.

To that point in the drive Harrell, McGregor, Okie and Upshaw were rotating at EDGE. Graham, Grant and Jenkins at DT (maybe Benny, my YouTubeTV keeps crashing on my phone). Rolder and Barrett at LB. Back 4 were starters (Green was CB2, not Johnson) with Q. Johnson sprinkled in at Safety.

Morris hadn't played that entire drive (until that 3rd and long where he gets hurt)...🤬. You can reasonably assume that was his last play because they punt, we go on offense and chew up clock, punt, and when they get the ball back, it's all 3rd team and walk-ons for Nebraska's final drive.

It's his senior day, if he's 80% and wants to play...I think you have to let him play the first series and then maybe you use him as a situational pass rusher.

I guess my point is let his health dictate some of it and not the opponent.

If we were playing OSU this week and he could/would play, it's no longer a medical decision...it's just "common sense" strategy from a competitive standpoint.

Obviously if we were playing OSU this week and he was out...well he's out on Saturday.

As for the the 4 hours of treatment, that could be a lot of things. Usually on Sunday's teams practice and then Monday is their off day.

Guys who played on (edit: Saturday) usually don't do much, it's mainly walkthroughs, film, light stuff. Guys who didn't play may go with pads or a heavier practice.

If you're injured, at lot of times coaches make you skip walkthroughs and you sit in the training room during that time.  For a lot of guys that is icing, cold tub, stim, stretching, PT, massage, acupuncture and watching a lot of TV. Maybe you bring your iPad with you and watch film while you ice down your ankle.

Late in the year, more and more upperclassmen miss Sundays and they spend it in the training room.

This is why coaches can't really comment about injuries after games. Because Morris probably did a shit ton of treatment yesterday as well, and today on his off day.

Today is the day we'll know if Morris and others are in good shape for Saturday. Today is a flat out practice day. If he's getting 4 hours of treatment today, that's not a good sign.

Michigan is not having much luck in the injury department this year, pretty much across the board.

Really got to hope that Morris, Hayes, Schoonmaker, Edwards, and anyone else who isn't already out for the year are ready to go against OSU. Especially those last two. You can tell the passing game takes a bit of a nosedive with those two not on the field.

Sit them this weekend against Illinois if you need to. You can get away with resting them this weekend. Next weekend, though, is freaking all hands on deck.

Will continue to bang the drum of Harbaugh being really, really reckless with keeping starters in games when they're clearly out of reach. One of these days he's going to get truly burned on this and the "well, he's burning too many redshirts!" crowd will change their tune.

A little tweak to a hamstring is a major injury because all you can do is rest it. I'd be shocked if he plays against illinois and he will probably be risking further injury if he tries to play against osu
