I think we are the more complete team, but that hasn’t meant much lately in this rivalry. But screw it  Im all in for Putingrad’s prediction. I’ll add that after we put 60 on little brother we go on to squeak past OSU and lose to Bama in the opening round of the playoffs. Eff BPONE, let’s get hurt again ya’ll!

***TRIGGER WARNING*** MSU 31, UM 17.  Good guys give up some big plays through the air on Defense and can't get the run game going on Offense. Macnamara is forced to throw it more than any other game, but throws 2 Interceptions with one taken back to the house. He just sucks at hero ball and forces things when he has to be more than a game manager. Its clear MSU has done their homework and exploits every weakness we have. They give us some new looks we aren't ready for that they didn't put on film. Fans are pissed and still think we're the better team. Its clear we have more talent, but we play with less of a chip on our shoulder.  Harbaugh doesn't do anything unique. No trick plays or wrinkles or smart RPO stuff. It's clear we are who we are and the coaches aren't particularly imaginative or clever as we keep hoping. Harbaugh says some platitudes during the post game presser. Seth or whomever writes a meloncholly postgame summary that's short and to the point, but has one or two sentences that resonate with how we're all feeling.  It only helps a little.  It's hard to go on social media for a few days because of the incessant blithering mouth farts spewed by MSU fans gloating like they won the Superbowl while they sit on their couch 50lbs overweight and sad because they used to be a like totally hot, but now they're 38 and never stopped having wine and Skittles for dinner like they did when they were a sorority girl at MSU studying the Gender Iconography of Egyptian cat sculptures. The McCarthy should start bandwagon intensifies. It becomes clear we will probably beat IU and PSU, but will lose to OSU. Eventually everyone is okay and accepts that 10-2 is great even though we have to play Kentucky in the Crest Toothpaste Bowl or some shit and players sit out and can't get excited so we lose and finish 10-3. Next year we're still a good team, but we're one or two players away and still have one aspect that's a weakness due to inferior recruiting and transfers. Rinse and repeat every year for the rest of our godforsaken lives. 6-6 is the floor. 10 wins is the ceiling. Welcome to Michigan football where we're too prestigious and arrogant to play with an underdog or chip on the shoulder mentality, but not prestigious enough to draw in the best talent to exert our will like coaches will forever try to do or else be kicked out by the alumni and boosters for not upholding tradition and doing things the "Michigan Way" which is to pretend we're above bending the rules and doing what's necessary to be elite, while still being just like every other program that exploits college kids for money and profit (because it's a business) while simultaneously calling them "student athletes". MSU is in that sweet spot where they're not a traditional power with prestige so their recruits feel disrrspekted and really buy in to the underdog us vs. the world mentality. But they still are popular enough to get some decent players and field an elite team once a decade or every 15 years or so. I think it's preferable to being a 8.5 win team on average that always feels on the cusp of reinvigorating what we had mostly in the first half of the 1900s and a bit in the Bo era and once in 97.

Wow. That was cool.

I have no idea about this week's game, though I think Michigan is the better team and should win by 14.

But we're going to get holy smoked by Ohio State either way. Which is fine -- this season is going so much better than I even hoped for that I'll take it. But oh man, I'm starting to see posts from people expressing hope that we can beat OSU, and I just haven't seen anything from this Michigan team that makes me think we're even at "upset" level against a Ohio State team that will be extra focused (if that's possible) if we actually come with confidence.

But come on, Blue, let's get another big road win this year!

Is being a Michigan fan as miserable for you as your posts make it seem like it is?   When we win, will you be happy or just miserable thinking about the next game that we are sure to lose?

Not even saying that I think your scenario isn’t one of many reasonable potential outcomes, just trying to understand the joy of being a fan when that is the outcome you pick to assume?

If they win, what was the negative outcome that my optimism guaranteed?

Why waste all the energy on negativity?   Do you walk around every day thinking you will get fired, your wife or gf will cheat on you etc, just so you can be pleasantly surprised afterward when it doesn’t happen?

When something good does happen, do you immediately start up with the pessimism, so that you can continue to live the most optimistic life possible?

It is a philosophy that raises so many questions.

I mean in the long run you're guaranteed a negative outcome eventually. Michigan WILL lose. In the short term there certainly can be positive results, but nothing is guaranteed in the short term. The variance smooths as you increase the sample size. Eventually Michigan will behave like Michigan.

No I have some confidence in other aspects of my life. This philosophy is mainly applicable to Michigan Football and a select few situations. I don't expect my wife to cheat on me. It doesn't sap my energy to be this negative. It's often cathartic.

Good things happen to me much more often since my threshold for pleasure is lower in regard to Mich football and other instances where failure relative to the average expectations is highly probable. Even small victories cause a release of dopamine.  You will feel way more negative emotions than I ever will.

MJ07,

that is patently false.  This is no guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised.  The game could turn out to be exactly as you described.  What is pleasant about that?  It could also go much worse than you expect.  Again, not a favorable outcome.  Even if it goes better than you describe, but we lose, do you feel good?  If we actually win, the darkness in your Michigan fan soul will consume the small flame of happiness with an onslaught of negative predictions about  a trip to Happy Valley.  This is just a horrible way to be a fan.  I would seriously consider not following the team, if I were you.

I read all that, do I get a Tee-shirt? I saw an interview with Thorne and you could sense how much this game meant to him. I had a vision of him and Cousins walking down the street with their heads held high. He wanted to play that very moment! Conversely, Cades response was an aloof sounding, "We come here to play big games', his attitude suggesting ' he didn't get it' which kinda made me grind my teeth. Perhaps that's his personality, or maybe he's not good in front of the camera, but I would have liked to have seen a little more intensity.

I love koalas... even mentally disturbed ones, but no.

Michigan wins.  Only OSU is allowed to give us the dong punch when we are 11-0.

I predict our defensive ends are going to get intimate with Payton Thorne and MSU is going to have a long day.   Kenneth Walker won't be enough.

Michigan 34

MSU 20

We take a 14-10 lead into half, and gets to around 20-13 in the 3rd quarter and we have a big play on D that leads to a score. We have a 34-13 lead and MSU scores late.

Offensively I think we struggle and they pick on our secondary coupled with a big run or two from their back. I just think they outscore us; 24-13 sparty
