Um.....maybe I'm missing something amazing in the snippet but all I'm seeing different are maize lights in the overheads and that they can apparently light up the block M in the stands (that will be covered by people during games).
I'm a card-carrying bluehair and I REALLY hope there's a lot more "color" than the preview showed. I hope it's louder too.
August 23rd, 2023 at 10:05 AM ^
I hope they tie the lights in with the marching band show. Only illuminate part of the field for certain parts while the rest of the band moves, stuff like that.
August 23rd, 2023 at 12:03 PM ^
I hope they tie it into the red hat for commercial breaks.

MGrow's eyesight and hearing are starting to go, he needs brighter colors and louder talking...
I agree, though - the preview wasn't much to look at. Nonetheless, with such a change to 'tradition', pearls will be clutched throughout the state this morning...

Like this?

Total aside, but I saw Interstellar Echos this past weekend (Pink Floyd tribute band). I highly recommend, they put on a great show.
August 23rd, 2023 at 10:19 AM ^
The tweet does say a "small" preview of what's to come, so there's likely much more to it.
August 23rd, 2023 at 10:34 AM ^
The biggest thing to me was at the 22-second mark, when the lights flashed on and off moving along the stadium. I suspect it'll be reminiscent of other stadiums where the lights flash and go crazy for TDs and other big events during a game. The Tennessee-Alabama game from last season comes to mind as an example.
August 23rd, 2023 at 12:05 PM ^
I think they should install crappy, temporary lights that don't illuminate the full field and make the football white or yellow for visibility instead #classic #RealOldsKnow
August 23rd, 2023 at 12:34 PM ^
Ah, the good old days. It was basically a guy standing on manlift with a flashlight.
August 23rd, 2023 at 12:50 PM ^
I just read Timothy Brown's "how football became football" and while I'd heard of the white footballs before, it was the first I'd heard of yellow footballs. Would LOVE it if anyone could find a picture - although with photography being primarily black and white I'm not sure anyone would really be able to notice.

As long as we keep the Hawaiian war chant, this blue hair can deal.
August 23rd, 2023 at 10:16 AM ^
i'm resistant to making the big house like an nfl stadium. I don't need sushi to be excited for the Game.
August 23rd, 2023 at 11:06 AM ^
Would individual seats really be the death knell for CFB? Personally, I enjoy the knees to my back from the 6’7” guy behind me. Also love it when the guy in front of me stands on the bench. But that’s just me.
August 23rd, 2023 at 11:15 AM ^
It really is a testament to...something...that in 2023 so many people (I'm including myself here) are so willing to spend so much time and so much money for something so uncomfortable.
August 23rd, 2023 at 11:37 AM ^
I love attending games - but, to be honest - the tailgating is usually more fun than the game. And, we do things before and after most home games. For a noon start - we’ll be among the last to leave the lot.
August 23rd, 2023 at 4:50 PM ^
We moved to the top row for this reason.
August 23rd, 2023 at 12:01 PM ^
Nothing says college football like Midwestern sushi.

Are they hoping to do more stadium concerts or something? I don't know how much this adds to the fan experience on gameday
August 23rd, 2023 at 10:29 AM ^
I always heard our tunnel hole is too small for concert setups.
You would think for potential revenue a concert could bring, they could figure out a way around the tunnel. Enormous cranes?
August 23rd, 2023 at 11:05 AM ^
So it's the tunnels fault, again? That damn tunnel is causing more stress, confusion, and delay than its worth!
August 23rd, 2023 at 11:30 AM ^
the tunnel is not too small for concerts.
August 23rd, 2023 at 12:10 PM ^
Well that settles it.
August 23rd, 2023 at 10:44 PM ^
Yep, it was in bold. Officially official.
August 23rd, 2023 at 12:50 PM ^
I have it on good authority that last time there was a concert at the Big House and the stage and stuff were passing thru the tunnel, the tunnel asked if it was "in yet?"
August 23rd, 2023 at 11:47 AM ^
That’s what she said?

Probably will make for some cool visit weekends though - take the recruits into the empty stadium and put on a show
August 23rd, 2023 at 7:40 PM ^
And bring in Brian Kelly for the close
August 23rd, 2023 at 10:22 AM ^
Gotta keep me entertained during the 4.5hrs I'm sitting around in the stadium on game day. My mind won't distract itself from the pain in my rear! I, for one, welcome the fancy light flashy mind balm.

Was hoping to get a glimpse of the new scoreboards. Completely black in that teaser.
August 23rd, 2023 at 10:39 AM ^
I drove by the Stadium earlier this week when I dropped off the kids. The new scoreboards are big - from my perspective. There’s a bit of open space between the scoreboards and the boxes in each corner. They were testing some music when I stopped by - and, IMO - it comes down to programming - what will they do with music, lights, etc. The programming will be the difference.
I know that some have suggested the scoreboards be bigger - and, respectfully, I’d disagree. They seem to be proportional to the rest of the Stadium structure - and look solid.
My hope is - they improve cellular coverage on Game Days…

I wonder if we consulted with Skrillex on this one?
Definitely getting some SEC vibes on this and maybe that's a good thing to shed the "wine and cheese crowd" moniker previous home games have been known for. Also this looks great for night games but does UM have many of those?
August 23rd, 2023 at 10:40 AM ^
It looks like two night home games this fall. Bowling Green and Purdue. So, there are possibilities for another night game - we’ll just need to wait and see.
August 23rd, 2023 at 10:48 AM ^
what's all this business about new rights? we have lots of rights. the problems is that we aren't using them. we need to keep the rights we have, we don't need new ones.
wait. wut? lights?

Gotta love the casual insult of anybody who disagrees with your point of view. A+ stuff, really.
August 23rd, 2023 at 11:09 AM ^
Is the characterization of Michigan's, ahem, 'traditional' fans as 'Blue Hairs' a new thing? It's not a casual insult, it's a thing that's been around for generations.
August 23rd, 2023 at 11:29 AM ^
"Blue hairs" has been slang for an elderly person (or old-fashioned) since at least the 1980s according to Cassell's Dictionary of Slang. There's another definition that's newer that I learned about a couple weeks ago. I used the term with my wife and she was confused because she knew it as a dismissive or derogatory term for feminists that made no sense in the context that I used it.
August 23rd, 2023 at 12:31 PM ^
I'm a '67 grad and my hair hasn't turned blue yet. Or even maize. Sounds like very appropriate for a blue-out! Can't wait!
August 24th, 2023 at 2:07 AM ^
Huh? That's a bit of a non sequitur, isn't it?
If something is common, it can no longer be used as casual insult? I'm not sure I follow.
I'm in my 40s, and I find the NFL-ification of the Michigan Stadium experience to be wretched.
When I think about 2021 OSU, I think about the crowd, the snow, the game, the exhilaration. Rarely do I think about the DJ.
August 23rd, 2023 at 11:04 AM ^
Blue hairs..... CYAN hairs.
August 23rd, 2023 at 11:36 AM ^
#00FFFF hairs
August 23rd, 2023 at 11:05 AM ^
That's one of the least impressive previews I've ever seen.
August 23rd, 2023 at 11:16 AM ^
Kind of agree. I was hoping for lasers and holographic projections of dinosaurs on the field.
August 23rd, 2023 at 1:18 PM ^
Holographic images of Tom Harmon or Charles Woodson running iconic plays -- that would be illuminating.
