So I saw this roll across my Twitter feed.....
Please let the movie be Waterboy.
They almost had me at fireworks, but now that they're offering a movie I am definitely buying season tickets.
I'm not adverse to this concept. Several times my daughter and I have been walking to a basketball game and they have something showing/testing on the boards at the stadium and it looks pretty cool. So sitting there and watching a bad-ass movie might be kind of fun.
Come on man, I met you half way and got a ticket package and didn't go the less expensive stubhub route.
Back in my day (like ten years ago), Michigan football was about football. That was the star of the show.
I miss those days.
I understand, and it being limited to season ticket holders draws direct correlation, but I think it's fair to see this as sort of outside the realm of Michigan Football entertainment. I like it because it doesn't detract from football and makes use of the stadium.
Fair point, but why do we need kitschy things like this now when we didn't ten years ago? They just don't do anything for me. I'm ALL about the pom poms though. They're probably my favorite "extra".
Oh I do love getting smacked in the face by those things due to the little girl standing in front of me. And the drunkards stumbling over themselves after the game. Just so we can look pretty on television. Every year Michigan football is less and less about football.
I guess Michigan Football wasn't about football in 1997 because a large amount of fans had Maize and Blue pom poms in the stands in the game vs ohio.
2:42 of the video
Get out of here with that.
Goodness, I love me some pom poms. It just adds something.
is what, at first glance, I thought the title line of your post said.
Time for me to invest in some reading glasses, I suppose...
Hoke coaching Woodson at 8:41 in the video.
And they were a pain then too.....
I don't anybody says this is 'needed', it's just a nice extra
Because times have changed in those ten years. And in another 10 years things will change even more. This isn't your Grandpa's Michigan. Hell, this isn't your Grandpa's football either.
I liked the towels better myself, but pom poms are okay. I just wish they would do towels again at least once. I'm sure pom poms are cheaper though.
Well, to be fair, 10 years ago we didn't have Hi Def Godzillatrons installed in the stadium, so Movie Night probably couldn't have been a thing.
If Brandon is trying to redefine Michigan Stadium from being, "the place we watch football" to "the entertainment center of the University of Michigan", I don't think that's a huge deal. Whether there are movies being shown outside in Ann Arbor at Top of the Park or at Michigan Stadium, it's the summer and it's the offseason.
I'm as uncomfortable as the next fan at some of the moves Brandon has made and worry that it's diluting the Michigan football experience. I just don't think that this is one of them.
I heard the movie will be MacGruber.
THE greatest comedy ever. Not even close. Well, kinda close but I've watched it no less than 30x and cry laughing every time.
"Fu You DOOD!"
Or if not, no problem, we can do that later in the year during the half time sing-a-long. On the bright side of things, only a matter of time before my 4 season tickets get snatched up on Stub Hub.
I realize the record thing was /s, but they tried the sing-along last year vs minnesota and it failed miserably. The minnesota fans in front of me who had more than a few beverages were hilariously singing. Maybe we'll see more of that this year.
They're having another one this year for homecoming vs IU. Come to think of it, HC last year was vs Minny.
They're gonna keep doing it until they get that record, damn it.
It's a shame they have to force the MMB to do this again. Let them come up with another creative halftime show.
Just received an e-mail promoting the MMB and all the half time shows this season. They will be trying it again on Nov 1st vs. Indiana.
Becoming comical now really.
When something is added to your season tickets, you have the right to not go so Im not sure what the big issue is.
Given how they are criticized for giving any extra perk to ticketholders (because some view it as a desperate measure instead of a perk), I have concluded that alot here would prefer things to be taken away from tocketholders instead of extras for ticketholders....maybe people here would react positive if they took away the bleachers, took away the bathrooms, maybe even take away the stairs to your seats so its just a hill you have to walk down.
Nice try Dave.
Apparently, this movie night is what having the most expensive student season tickets gets you. I've seen how much my son pays for tickets.
BRING BACK THE TROUGHS!!
The bleachers . . . The bathrooms . . . The stairs to your seats?
Isn't that what the airlines have been doing for years? I'm waiting for the day when, on international flights and long domestic flights, we'll be charged much extra if we want to travel in anything more than Standing Room Only Class.
Dave Brandon presents: "Comedy Night: Live at the Big House!"
Larry The Cable Guy
...and doing a special guest commentary on affirmative action...
It's Dave Brandon presents: "Comedy Night: Live at the Big House!"
Sponsored by PNC Bank and Absopure.
What's next Dave... disco demolition night..
Don't tempt him. He'll be selling booze to the already liquored up students.
I was thinking a 10% off coupon for any wedding* held at Michigan Stadium and a dozen free Dominoes pasta bowls for the reception.
*Redeamable within 1 year, certain dates excluded.
I think they need to do a retrospective of a very unique but very interesting director. I would think an evening of Sidney Lumet films might fit this bill - perhaps "12 Angry Men", "The Pawnbroker", "Serpico" or other ones to make it the largest attendance at a film retrospective ever. That would be interesting. That being said, someone above probably got closer to the truth - "MacGruber" might be it.
Flagged for too many men on the field.
DB is..... Kaiser Sose!
I'm thinking Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo. Any of the Rob Schneider films really.
Perhaps if we dream big enough and wish hard enough, we can even be presented with a special message by Mr. Bigalow himself during halftime, encouraging our boys with a cry of, "You can do eeeeeeiiitttt!"
SNL Alumnae Retrospective: Dana Carvey's Master of Disguise, Molly Shannon's Superstar, that Will Ferrell movie he did in broken Spanish, and The Love Guru.
It'll be gold, Jerry. Gold!
Ha. Can you imagine Notre Dame Stadium showing sappy Disney movies?
Neither can I.
I'd guess season ticket holders will be watching Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
The promotion list for this season is starting to sound like the entertainment an expensive Domino's executive retreat. What is next? Gold cufflinks for the guys and a silver charm for the gals? I've previously donated tens of thousands to the University and they will not be getting a penny more until this imbecile is removed.
I've heard once you stop donating, the athletic department will be broke.
Please be "Idiocracy."
As long as they serve Brawndo: The Thirst Mutilator.
It's what plants crave....
I love that movie. And fear that it's going to come true.
realized by now that it's already happened, you're part of the problem.
