Michigan Player(s) plant spear in Spartan Stadium during pre-game

Submitted by MGoBender on

Apparently, per all the Twitters, some Michigan player(s) planted a spear on the block S during the pregame.

Does Hoke have any control over his team?

This is apparently why Dantonio went for the last touchdown (way to take the high road, Mark).  But still, if there was ever a time to not disrespect your rival, it was before this game.

EDIT: Some Tweets:

"Them putting a spear in a field before the game is not a product of their team but their program." - Dantonio on the UofM Pregame spear.

Connor Cook was clear, last TD was because MSU felt disrespected before game. Said a UM player stuck a spear in field before game

— Matt Charboneau (@mattcharboneau) October 25, 2014

Buddy just asked me if Dantonio ran it up because of Nussmeier's reaction but just heard UM players speared the S. That would explain it

— Jeff Riger (@riger1984) October 25, 2014

And worst of all:

Hoke said he was somewhat aware that one his players put a spear in the ground before the game but "not fully aware"

— Mark Snyder (@Mark__Snyder) October 25, 2014

Perhaps, not worst of all. This seems dubious, so please be untrue:

According to the #MSU players, they saw a #Michigan players throw a spear down on their field during the national anthem.

Final Edit: Appears to not be on the block S. Here's the .gif

Reflection of our program. Petty. Pathetic. Inferior. Childish. The same adjectives apply to Delano Hill's personal foul early in the game: he was out of position and got trucked by a QB. TRUCKED. And because he was out of position and got trucked, he was the one getting shit-talked and he reacted like a little kid. Had he been in position, and had he fitted up Cook and drilled him (instead of getting trucked), like you should any QB who leaves the pocket, there would have been no shit talking from Cook, and Hill would not have had to instinctively push Cook when Cook got in his face. How's that for a sentence.

How dumb is Dantonio running up the score and risking injury?  Did you see Dan Mullen doing that at the end of the game to get his player 200 yards?  No because he has the brains not to.

If MSU sneaks into the playoffs they will get beat by 40 by Alabama or some one.  And Nick Saban would be dumb enough to do what Dantonio did. The goal is suppose to be to win a championship. Not show off.

Also Dantonio coveniently forgot his players did the same thing at ND a few years ago.  Such a hypocrite.

Dumb comments like this are why he couldn't handle being at a big time university (Texas was smart to stay away from him).

I simply can't get past the fact that Mr. Clap Clap Clap claims to not have been "fully aware" of the spear.  wtf does that even mean?  what IS he aware of other than the pregame meal menu and eating and practicing on time?!??!

This sounds a lot like Bobby Williams after 49-3.  Didn't he get fired that Monday?  We can only hope the same happens here....

He wasn't aware that a player who took a head shot for days after the game when the whole country was discussing the issue.

He didn't know anything about the Gibbons situation!

Why would he know about this!

Again he is either the dumbest coach ever to stand on a sideline or he is a lying about all of these things.  Keep that in mind next time someone wants to call him a great man!

Nothing to see here. There was nothing wrong with MSU scoring late. I see nothing here that this is a big issue against us. Move along, stop trying to find shit to be weak and upset about.

It was an incredibly childish play by Dantonio.  What other coaches that were up by 3 scores would do that? Do you see Saban doing that?  Or Malzahn?  Would Bob Stoops pull that crap against Texas?  You know he wouldn't.

Exactly.  Sadly the scoreboard matters at this point, especially with the Big Ten sucking ass and MSU and OSU needing to do whatever they can to boost their resume when playing shit teams like US.  We and everyone else gave them crap about only beating Purdue by two TDs.  It's not hard to see why they'd want to cover the spread and make the score look more like the reality on the field than it did.  Face it, it probably should have been a lot worse than 35-11.  They screwed themselves a couple of times and we only got points from turnovers.  all the committee will do is look at resumes, and 35-11 looks a hell of a lot better than 28-11.

And I can't believe we're talking about MSU being in the playoff conversation, while we need a freaking miracle to get to get to some shit bowl at 6-6.

At least the team didn't take a collective dump on the block S. Otherwise, Michigan State could have literally rubbed Michigan's faces in it, rather than just figuratively.

So yeah, maybe the spear thing was actually a good choice.

I think this is a good thread to say this, but does anybody else find the whole theory of bulletin board material complete bullshit? When I played sports, I didn't need that junk to play my hardest.

100% agree. Its not like Connor Cook made a better pass to Lippett because in that moment he was thinking about the "spear". Bulletin board material is just something for media to write about and fans to overreact to. When you are between the lines, you dint have time to think about what someone said at a press conference 4 days ago.

A spear in the ground? Where does a "spear" even come into our lore? I can't defend these folks anymore if they're going to pull this shit. I hate Dantonio to the moon and back but I'm gonna take his side on this one. Our players are idiots, and coached by idiots. No respect, no humility, no skill, no effort, no awareness. Disgraceful

painting the block M, painting the Sparty statue, planting the spear, "little brother", pride before the fall, etc. etc.  it's gamesmanship, and yeah coaches use these things to motivate their team, but so what?  nobody is hurt by it.

but it gets annoying when one side (either side) complains about it (not that you are doing that, I'm just saying).
