Michigan Nebraska rivalry trophy
Apparently Michigan and Nebraska have a new rivalry trophy. The Bussin' Bowl...

I believe this was mentioned in the Bussin' podcast a couple months back. They mentioned it to Jim and I think he gave it his blessing if the Boys put it together. Cool to see they followed through!

Bussin makes me feel good

"Buss" and "bussing" are an old-fashioned words for kissing.
Making this lame-ass self-promotion even weirder.

That's... odd. I don't get it.

There's a popular college football podcast hosted by a former Michigan player and a former Nebraska player who appear to be good friends. It's called "Bussin with the Boys". I suppose as part of their friendly rivalry they are now 'sponsoring' this trophy for the winner of the Michigan-Nebraska game.
Note of caution: I don't think said Michigan player is entirely uncontroversial around these parts.

Thank you, sir.

It’s a Barstool-sponsored trophy. Kill it with fire

Opened this thread to post the same thing.

I don't mind Barstool. At least they still have chicks in bikinis.

Barstool and Taylor Lewan
November 13th, 2022 at 2:01 PM ^
I like it!
Go Blue!!

A trophy from Taylor Lewan. No thanks.

What the fuck is "Bussin'" referring to—the struggle bus? Throwing somebody under the bus? The short bus? School bussing?
November 13th, 2022 at 2:41 PM ^
Driving a bus over a possible rape victim? You know, like a judge in the San Francisco area does...
November 13th, 2022 at 3:07 PM ^
"Bussin'" appears to be a reference to the name of the podcast sponsoring the trophy which also features a school bus in their logo.
They appear to have their own GameDay knockoff style that involves driving a bus to a different college football game each weekend.
Uh, okay.
Why is Michigan involved with this? Why did Harbaugh sign off on this?
It really seems like the podcast is getting a lot more out of this than the University of Michigan.
I don't get it.

Thanks for the explanation.

Presumably for the same reason - as I am told all the time - we get to play in different uniforms every week. "The kids like it."
In collegiate athletics 18 year olds get what they want.

Also learned recently that former Michigan bench QB David Cone is a cohost on a all-sports podcast. Crain and Company. Good blend of sports info and humor. Definitely a college football heavy lean.

Selfish promotion...they could have done better. Off the top of my head they could have done one commemorating that we both won the natty in '97, or the 'ole Midwest trophy, or something to do with Scott Frosts' mom...

Fake news about 1997.
November 13th, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
Initial reaction = ugh
Taylor Lewan hasn’t been our best ambassador.
/understatement
November 13th, 2022 at 2:26 PM ^
This is stupid. No need whatsoever.
November 13th, 2022 at 2:35 PM ^
It’s an unofficial trophy. It’s derived from Taylor Lewan and Nebraska alum Will Compton who co host a barstool show.
Given all the factors involved it will likely never become an official rivalry trophy.
November 13th, 2022 at 2:37 PM ^
The question is, why is anyone at Schembechler Hall giving Taylor Lewan the time of day, much less Barstool?
Then again, maybe I'm not terribly surprised.
November 13th, 2022 at 2:50 PM ^
My guess is because no matter what you think Barstool sports is a huge sports enterprise. It doesn't matter if you like it or not, most college age people pay far more attention to Barstool than espn.
November 14th, 2022 at 4:28 PM ^
Barstool is, and always will be absolute trash.
November 13th, 2022 at 2:58 PM ^
I dunno. It doesn’t seem very organic.
November 13th, 2022 at 3:05 PM ^
Yeah - not nearly as cool as either the Little Brown Jug or the $5 Bits of Broken Chair.
November 13th, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
Very few trophies are organic. The governor of Michigan commissioned the Paul Bunyan Trophy and said "Go play for this."
Which makes the Little Brown Jug genuinely cool.
November 13th, 2022 at 6:46 PM ^
Well, at least it was started by some Governor and not some dudes doing a podcast. Actually, I like the Paul Bunyan Trophy...
November 13th, 2022 at 3:08 PM ^
Why??????
November 13th, 2022 at 3:42 PM ^
I don't understand it. And based on its origin story, it is decidely not, as the kids say these days, bussin'.
Bussin' = Something that is really great

I thought I saw that Trente Jones was out for the game. I didn’t hear he was dressed but he is in a picture with the trophy. Looks like he has some kind of bionic ankle going on.
November 13th, 2022 at 4:21 PM ^
He got in late in the game. Listed in the player participation.
November 13th, 2022 at 4:45 PM ^
Anything but the actual 1997 National Championship trophy is lame.
November 13th, 2022 at 7:27 PM ^
This is actually a really neat idea what would up the ante, develop the rivalry, and generate national interest in this game.
November 13th, 2022 at 4:51 PM ^
Winner should keep to keep the 1997 Coaches National Championship trophy. 1997 AP trophy has always been correctly located.
