Michigan in the Final Group for TX DB LaDarrell McNeil
Without a visit, it seems unlikely he'll commit to Michigan, but looks like the staff made another great, late push for him. As @Wlubd pointed out on twitter, his coach is Chris Barnett's dad.
Announcing between TCU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and Michigan tonight at 7.
Article from the Dallas Morning News...
Wilmer-Hutchins football coach Elzie Barnett said star senior safety LaDarrell McNeil will announce which college he is committing to at 6:45 p.m. Monday at Wilmer-Hutchins. Barnett said McNeil has narrowed his choices to Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, TCU and Michigan.
Rivals.com ranks McNeil (6-1, 190) as the nation's fifth-best safety in the Class of 2012 and as the 107th-best senior recruit in the country. McNeil, who had 132 tackles and three interceptions for A. Maceo Smith last season, is No. 3 in SportsDay's area recruiting rankings.

Oh my, this kid does not like the other team very much.

Would be a great get but considering the lack of buzz about him on most UM boards around the internet I'm guessing we're not getting him.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
Seems unlikely he would pick us(unless you are posting this because you know something...) but would he play safety for us? Thought the coaches were looking for another elite cornerback.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:18 PM ^
Definitely a safety, not a CB.
And no, I don't know anything I haven't said.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:19 PM ^
he has offers from everyone, but we were just thrown in there to get another hat on the table? i didn't even know he was considering us, and i don't recall a visit.

He's had Okie State and Tennessee on top for a while, I don't remember him mentioning us since February-ish

Come on, you two. Tim's position was just announced as being open today.

That doesn't make any sense since Chris Barnett's dad was against him coming to Michigan.
Elzie Barnett said he believes that his son should have signed with Arkansas instead of Michigan so he could play in the Southeastern Conference and the Razorbacks’ pro-style offense.

He could have Michigan on his list simply for the impressive cachet the University wields.

Now that is what I call a PRIMEtime player!

You could be getting paid to do this rather than do it for free. Just sayin'.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:27 PM ^
But really. There are a lot of parts of both Tim and Tom's jobs that certain things, be it my kids, geographical location, or experience prevent me from being able to do. I know Brian will find a quality candidate to replace them.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:36 PM ^
In other words, everyone sit tight and let The Process play out.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:44 PM ^
But will he be going to 6 cities in three days?
August 15th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
Flight Tracker. And the MGoJet.
That is Brian's, right? All that Beveled Guilt has to be going somewhere, doesn't it?
August 15th, 2011 at 3:45 PM ^
but somebody darn well better let me know when it's time to BUCKLE UP
August 15th, 2011 at 3:47 PM ^
starting a national search with less than three weeks to the start of the season?!?! That's crazy talk!

Recruiting articles class. Be lucky to get 10 of them. Hope we don't have too many posts transfer.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:57 PM ^
It is kind of funny that criterion #7 for the job is:
"Desire for Michigan to win football games without that interfering with #6. "
Does that mean that we're restricting this to Michigan men?
August 15th, 2011 at 4:14 PM ^
Not going to lie but I'm not sure Brian can handle another "Process" but any future references to Mgojobopening needs to be referenced as "The Process".
..I mean hopefully we dont get a random 52 year old 47-50 career interview ratio

Someone call up THE_KNOWLEDGE
August 15th, 2011 at 6:07 PM ^
As in more interviews and relationships, and someone else would handle Tims role in area recruiting and analysis?
August 15th, 2011 at 3:58 PM ^
...considering both OSU and Michigan have been asking themselves this same question since 2001. "I could be getting paid to do this rather than do it for free?"
August 15th, 2011 at 5:42 PM ^
This made me laugh. Well said!
August 15th, 2011 at 3:38 PM ^
According to Scout we have not even offered him.

to Texas to play in the Big East, or going to Texas to play in the SEC, or going to Oklahoma to play in the Newer, Bigger, Big 8, or playing for Michigan in the best 12 team conference in the land. The more things change the more they get really weird.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:59 PM ^
He smears his opponents.
August 15th, 2011 at 4:06 PM ^
Would Michigan take his commitment at this point? Always a bad idea to turn down an elite talent, but we have ned other than safety in this class. Even though I don't feel like CB is one of them either.

August 15th, 2011 at 4:52 PM ^
August 15th, 2011 at 5:15 PM ^
He's probably TCU/Ok-State bound. The best safety in Texas and a real quality player too.
Edit: Sounds more and more like Oklahoma State.
August 15th, 2011 at 5:03 PM ^
realize we were after is about the only thing Hoke/GMAT haven't done in terms of recruiting
August 15th, 2011 at 5:13 PM ^
I stopped watching at the 2:42 mark of DG's video. I had seen enough.
Dear Mr LaDarrell McNeil,
You play football like a possessed, savage beast. And, it turns out, you would look tremendous in a winged helmet. Please come play football and attend college at the University of Michigan.
Many Regards,
The Flying Dutchman

August 15th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
Wow. That's the best hitting safety I've seen in a long time. If I was coaching against him, I'd elimate any passes over the middle and instruct everyone to buckle their chin-straps tighter.

What if we took him and make Allen Gant a WR? McNeil and Wilson seem to compliment each other's game well.
