Michigan does not make top-11 of Pioneer's Antjuan Simmons...

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

I'm shocked. How does this happen?

Maybe the staff hasn't been going that hard after him since they're busy with the 2016 class.

I have a hard time thinking Harbaugh is going to let a guy from across the street, at the same HS he went to, leave.

edit: here's how-

Simmons loves Ann Arbor, calls it his home, and says #Michigan has an advantage with that. But, he said they haven't made him a priority.

Plenty of time left.

You take forever to offer, talk about the rest of the in-state recruits as the "Pipeline 9" and leave him out and you have a kid who wants to get away from what he has said in interviews and you have this. Nothing is over, of course, but I am less than surprised. I wish him well as long as it's not at the B1G rivals.

Right. He's a tweener prospect, but he's a heck of an athlete. I'm not sure why it took Michigan so long to offer. I've said before that I think he could turn out to be the best in-state prospect for 2017, and while Donovan Peoples-Jones is a better overall athlete, there's a lot to like about Simmons. He's definitely a better athlete than Carter Dunaway, for example.

Not really considered by Daelin Hayes (I know he had family issues) or Simmons, probably just a random coincidence but little odd both kids really didn't even consider UM.

Also, in our defense UM waiting a little while to offer a 3 star tweener LB prospect would be no story if it was anywhere except Pioneer.

"Jimmy of course moved away and I think he was looking at Miami of Ohio,” Falk said. “I went in to see Bo and I said, ‘Hey Bo, this Jimmy Harbaugh is looking at Miami of Ohio.’ “Bo said, ‘don’t worry about Jimmy Harbaugh Jonny, he’s coming to Michigan. He doesn’t know it yet, but he’s coming to Michigan.’"

Harbaugh has his sites set on bigger fish, and Simmons' recruitment cooled after that.

Another very possible option is he's a HS kid who still has a long recruitment still ahead and this will inevitably change over time. In other words, nothing to see here (yet).

We can't predict what will happen a year from now, but we can comment on the info we have at the moment. And if you can't make the Top 11 for a kid in your own backyard, then you have done something terrible wrong in recruitintg the kid to this point. If you look at this kids offer list, he is a highly sought after national recruit. This is a blue chip type of kid.

I don't see how this can happen.

Maybe it's because we are setting our sights a little higher than a generic three star local player?

Look at the the 2016 class. There's only one player from the state of Michigan. We obviously aren't emphasizing local, which is a good thing in a state that probably ranks 15-20th in terms of football talent produced.

Why do so many people on this site always think the high school players are in control? Harbaugh could obviously have this kid at Michigan if really wanted him.....

IMO it means very little. Kid will decide, decide again and then decide a third time. More than a year out. I'm learning that rarely it's about the first to the party. All about results and that final push.

No way. The staff has spent a lot of time in Detroit and making contacts with other kids around the state. Meanwhile, Simmons literally goes to school across the street from Michigan Stadium. He would be the easiest recruit in the country to prioritize in some way. The coaches just aren't in love with him. It has nothing to do with spending time on 2016 players.

Are we serious with this?  Look around!  The 2016 class has the most unstable 23 commits I can ever recall.  We've got news out of Southern Cal that Rashan Gary's mom has USC in the same breath as M.  We've got about 15 highly rated guys in contention for about 6 or 7 spots.  And new offers are going out daily.  McDoom!  Chase Allen!  Stewart!  Onwuzurike! Dwumfour! Jones! Pie Young! Gary!  Hudson!  Sleepovers with Nordin!  Now Onwenu is spinning off into space.  Reel him in, coach!

...

And I'm supposed to be even remotely aware or concerned that some 2017 3-star didn't list Michigan in an inocuous top-11 eight months before he even plays a down as a Senior in High School?

That's it.  I quit.  See you February 3rd...
