Michigan Basketball: Revised Expectations?
MBB put up two of the most dominant performances since 2013 and 2014. This looks like a complete team: the typically efficient Beilein offense; solid and very active defense; good on the glass; the bigs are a plus unit. This looks like a Top 20 basketball team this year, at least based on this weekend. How did the last two nights change your expectations for the season? I think this team will contend for a Big Ten championship.

I'll admit that I didn't think we would be that good (shocking to you all, I'm sure). These past 2 games definitely has me thinking that we might have something special this year. I did not expect Donlon to have this drastic of an impact, and this soon.

It's all good though. This bandwagon is big enough for all.

Sorry, criticizing the team when they play poorly doesn't make me a bandwagoner. I still watched every game and rooted for them to win.

I mean, are you really a true Michigan fan if you aren't somewhat disappointed in the team no matter the outcome?

I would say (and have said) the same thing about having irrationally high expectations after these last two also.

How do you not break that mindset? The drought ended eight seasons ago. You're past due to shake it off.

i am thinking in the 3-6 range now

We have size, shooting, and chemistry. Do we have a guy that can sufficiently break down a defense? Not sure on that one.
DJ Wilson turning into Dennis Rodman is incredible. Its been a couple years since we had a kid take the leap like he apparently has.

A-R broke down SMU pretty well. Marquette as well. Michigan shot the 3 well, but did not rely on it exclusively.

People still talk about the 3 like it's this oddball novelty. Yeah, we take a lot of them - and so does pretty much everyone else.

I knew one of the team managers when DJ was a freshman. We practiced for a few weeks after the early end of the season, and my manager friend told me at the time that near the end of the year DJ was dominating in practice, by the sounds of it, it was the way he is now in games. I've been waiting to see this ever since. Go DJ!

They seem better than I thought they would be. I want to see them against better compeition but so far they look good.

Who is coronating them? I see a bunch of people saying they look better than they expected.

Isn't wild overreaction the basic theme of almost every hoops thread ever on this blog though? In stretches good and not so much, I can point to this being the constant among all the in-game discussions.......also OREB% and muttering about why it tends to be low.
Although I am in the boat where I would rather get through a few more games before I start any massive revision of expectations, I am very pleased with what I have seen in this team so far. Better than I expected to this point honestly.

from a 20-13 , 8-10 Big east team, they are likely pretty good. They played Pitt even as well. SMU is projected to be a likely tourney team. Those were two very solid wins acomplished in a convincing manner.
