Michigan Basketball: Revised Expectations?

Submitted by LS And Play on

MBB put up two of the most dominant performances since 2013 and 2014. This looks like a complete team: the typically efficient Beilein offense; solid and very active defense; good on the glass; the bigs are a plus unit. This looks like a Top 20 basketball team this year, at least based on this weekend. How did the last two nights change your expectations for the season? I think this team will contend for a Big Ten championship.

We have size, shooting, and chemistry. Do we have a guy that can sufficiently break down a defense? Not sure on that one.

DJ Wilson turning into Dennis Rodman is incredible. Its been a couple years since we had a kid take the leap like he apparently has.

I knew one of the team managers when DJ was a freshman. We practiced for a few weeks after the early end of the season, and my manager friend told me at the time that near the end of the year DJ was dominating in practice, by the sounds of it, it was the way he is now in games. I've been waiting to see this ever since. Go DJ!

These were two unranked teams correct? Marquette was pretty small and SMU didn't have a very talented big man either from what I saw. These guys are definitely playing well but let's not get crazy here. Remember how dreadful that first half vs Howard was. We are probably a top 20-25 team, and a 4-7 seed depending on the B1G tourney run and our games against the B1G's top tier.

Isn't wild overreaction the basic theme of almost every hoops thread ever on this blog though? In stretches good and not so much, I can point to this being the constant among all the in-game discussions.......also OREB% and muttering about why it tends to be low.

Although I am in the boat where I would rather get through a few more games before I start any massive revision of expectations, I am very pleased with what I have seen in this team so far. Better than I expected to this point honestly.

from a 20-13 , 8-10 Big east team, they are likely pretty good. They played Pitt even as well. SMU is projected to be a likely tourney team. Those were two very solid wins acomplished in a convincing manner.

Mmmm Hmmm

Too soon to tell. I'm excited but always a bit reticent when a team really changes their approach. It has not been tested yet whether the new system will work during league play (with league refs) or whether it will keep up when the league adjusts. I'm optimistic on the latter but it is still a ways from league play on the former.

Didn't have high expectations due to what I thought as lack of elite talent. Watching them play fundamentally sound, this is damn good team that will make some noise in the conference
