its seriously one of the most underrated beers ever. Its so delicious I think it might be on par with KBS, but so much less hyped and around all year.

I had Dragon's Milk a couple of nights ago...tasted like a boilermaker made with a good stout, with a heavily oaked scotch dropped in.
Great for a cold night...but gosh it had a kick.

It's from Adam Carolla's podcast, enjoy the show thought I'd buy some. It's basically Sangria with Vodka in it. Got me through an early Christmas with the in-laws.

Chocolate Bock out of the Sam Adams winter sampler.

Almost like a coffee stout, but a little lighter. Tastes a little bit coffee-like but that's because of the dark chocolate. If you like dark chocolate you'd probably like this. Me, I get the sampler for the Old Fezziwig and the Winter Ale, but of course the rest of it is solid enough too.

I love that one.

I checked Duke's schedule to see if they had any tough games coming up. Answer: nope. They will likely be undefeated for several more weeks.

Go Blue
December 15th, 2012 at 6:49 PM ^
Having some Grannysmith Woodchuck Cider as I wait for Michigan hoops. I would be more excited except my father-in-law had surgery for two bulging lumbar vertebrae today, so we've spent much of today dealing with that. All of us went to visit earlier today for a while, but my wife, as she works at the same hospital, will visit on her own on break later.
As always, Go Blue!

I hope everything is okay! thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery

To be kinda a medical dork, it was probably surgery for bulging lumbar vertebral discs. To get to the discs, you typically chip away a bit of the back portion of the vertebra.
You can have surgery to the vertebrae themselves, but typically it's only for infection or a retropulsed fragment from a vertebral compression fracture.
Good luck to your father in law.

Thread Jack, is anyone else having trouble with gifs playing in Chrome?

on my laptop (long-time satisfied Firefox user), but do have it (pre-installed) on my MotoAtrix HD Android phone, and I do have more than enough problems, enough that it has me considering replacing it with MobileFirefox.

Picked up some Jolly Pumpkin last night (really happy I can get it in GR). Got some of the Noel, Bam Noire, and the Weizen Bam (sp?). Finished the Noel earlier, but I'm definitely looking forward to the others tonight.

Good Choice, Jolly Pumpkin makes some great beers! (I dont think I can say it enough, but we are so lucky to have all these great brewerys in our state ie. Founders, Shorts, Bells, Jolly Pumpkin, New Holland, list goes on and on...)
My favorite Jolly Pumpkin is La Roja or Calabaza Blanca. Both are fantastic!
December 15th, 2012 at 7:22 PM ^
Agreed on La Roja, terrific. I think the Noel is my favorite, but that might be because it's what I had the my first time out in Ann Arbor when I got there as a grad student. Won't claim it's the absolute best, but it's my favorite beer of all time mostly for sentimental reasons.
December 15th, 2012 at 7:36 PM ^
I was actually outside of Jolly Pumpkin today debating to go in and buy some Noel, but I decided just to pick up a bottle from my local beer store. I have heard good things, and I definitely am buying a bottle to split with the family on Christmas.
December 15th, 2012 at 7:40 PM ^
It's unique, which I like.
Also, if you're a fan of sour beers and ever get a chance to try Russian River's, do it. Not sure they're available outside of California/the west coast, but they're phenomenal, and the Noel reminds me of them.
