META - Mobile App down?
I looked and am not seeing any reference to the iOS App being down. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It's been happening since yesterday afternoon. Essentially it's useless. I get a Maize and blue spinning "thinking" icon and that's it. Never actually loads anything. I would think that at almost a day it would be posted on here already. Didn't see it in the other META thread.

Seems to be par for the course, lately.

Sometimes flipping between the Front Page and Forums sections would "help" it refresh, but no joy on MGoBlog HD (on iPad) today.

Been doing the exact same thing for me also... iPhone & iPad both failing to get it to load...

Good OT topic. I'm not brave enough to start it.

I experienced another issue recently when I was told the version of the MGoBlogHD app I was using would no longer work, so I had to upgrade. However, that upgrade required an upgrade of iOS which my somewhat older iPad will not install.
To the developer, if you are reading this, I'm pretty sure the App Store allows you to maintain an older version of the app that is backward compatible with prior versions of iOS, and the App Store will automatically make sure users get the right version of the app depending on their OS. If possible, would be nice to make a version available in the app store that still works for those using older hardware that cannot be updated. Thanks.

Apologies as this is not possible, the App Store is quite limited in this regard. In order to make necessary improvements for iOS 10, I had to end support for older iOS versions 7 & 8. It's no longer feasible for me to support these while continuing developement of new features, as I'm a solo developer without access to older devices and their usage represented < 1% of traffic.

Any idea when we will be able to use the App again? Is it something you can fix on the App side or does it need attention from the board admins on the backend?

I've got an iPhone with IOS 10.2 and the app isn't working for me. I'm using the original Mgoblog app.
I've also had issues with a Macbook Pro accessing the site on Chrome with the latest Apple OS Mac OS Sierra V 10.12.2

Go to Settings > Notifications > MGoBlog HD and turn on all of the toggles you see.

Me too. I just assumed Najee had flipped from Alabama to UM. I'm now on the site via my PC, and don't see any confirmation about this rumored flip. Still, I will assume it to be true until I hear specificially otherwise.

First morning there he got some breakfast and served him grits. He said "what in the fuck is that on my plate????" and was told it was considered quite the delicacy in Alabama and just wait till he tries them with squirrel. Yummy!
Once he learned that he was expected to eat baby food everyday as well as road kill he packed up and headed north. Should be in South Quad in time for dinner tomorrow I've heard.

they served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I'm on Android, so I didn't notice, but good call pointing this out.
Unfortunately, the app was developed by a blogger, not anyone on the paid staff, so you may need to wait until they see this, if they do, assuming it is the app itself and not a database issue (which, given the recent performance of the main site, who knows?).

I updated the Mobile app for ios about two weeks ago when prompted and now my Push notifications aren't working even though I've set up preferences within the app settings and my ios settings. Not sure if it's related or not.
FWIW, the app is running much slower since I updated it.
January 9th, 2017 at 10:17 AM ^
Same issue for me.
January 9th, 2017 at 10:23 AM ^
Same. I turn notifications on and it reverts to notifications off on it's own immediately.
January 9th, 2017 at 10:37 AM ^
I'm aware of the issue and am working on a fix for iOS 10 users in the next update. In the interim you may fix push by deleting/reinstalling the app and then making sure push notifcations for MGoBlog HD are turned on in the phone's system settings (note - this is not the same as the the settings in the app).

Go to Settings >> Notifications. You will see all your apps, including Mgoblog HD app listed there, then edit the notifications settings.

Thanks for confirming I'm not crazy and for your work on the app.
January 9th, 2017 at 12:25 PM ^
First - Thanks for building the app and keeping it running.
Just a note in case it helps - I can't see the app in IOS 10 under Settings - Notifications. It shows up with the rest of the apps on the main screen but not under notifications.

Can I get the iOS version to work on my Samsung? Or do I have to use the Android version? I'm so confused and need to post!!
January 9th, 2017 at 10:19 AM ^
I saw the app just wheeling. Figured someone spotted Najee at the Michigan Union or something.
January 9th, 2017 at 10:22 AM ^
I often can't get the main site to work, from mobile or laptop. That I can even log in to post this is a relative rarity this week. Either, I get an error at the URL level, or the page loads falsely and I see the front page as it was on January 2, 2017, with the MgoBoard posts dated to then as well (top thread being about Kiffin not coaching in the NCG).

Interesting. I wasn't sure whether that mistake (1/2/2017's material popping up on my browser through today) was happening because of my usage (e.g., cookies) or for mgoblog-centric reasons. This increments the odds that it is specific to mgoblog.

MGoBlog HD, I see you are responding to issues unrelated to the current outage, but I haven't seen anything on whatever is happening right now. Is this something that is being fixed, or is it unrelated to the app?
January 9th, 2017 at 12:28 PM ^
This is a backend issue where it's rejecting requests from iPhones, both MGoBlog classic and HD apps. Unfortunately nothing I can do to fix this from the client-side.
January 9th, 2017 at 1:23 PM ^
Thanks for chiming in MGoBlog HD.
Just wanted to let you know that I absolutely love the app. Typically (when not plagued by the backend) works beautifully and it's a really great experience for keeping tabs on the board while on mobile.

Thanks. On twitter I saw something about a bot attack being the cause for all the downtime this weekend. I wonder if they turned something off to counter that which may have affected the app.
