META: MGoBlog constantly logging out: iPad/Safari, other devices

Submitted by MMB 82 on

I access MGoBlog via my iPhone (via App(s)), iPad and MacBook Pro (via Safari). Lately I have noticed that on my iPad I get logged out every time I click on a link, such as going to a new page, forum topic, etc. No problems with my laptop or iPhone. Has anyone else noticed this? Possibly something to do with iOS 8.0.2? I do not have this problem with other websites; one login is sufficient.

You have access to so much more of what the site has to offer(especially if you want to view or post a picture or video) if you're flash-equipped.

I am not sure if this is related at all (probably not), but I've actually experienced a similar phenomenon on occasion using Chrome on a laptop running Windows 8. Once in a while, when I am logged into the screen where I track new replies to threads, clicking on the actual thread link will pull up the page, but on that page, I am logged off the site. It's very random, so it may be a traffic issue.

WAIT.....

You mean...I can actually access the site on a mobile device without using the app?!?!   /s

What I'm getting at is that it amazes me that so many people post things like, "I can't edit because I'm using my mobile device" or "I can't up vote because I'm on my mobile device," to which I reply, "I can easily do those things on my phone and iPad." Then I get responses asking me how I do it...

This happens on my G Pad (Android 4.4.2) when I access the site in Firefox.  Haven't tried in other browsers but doesn't sound like it's a browser issue if it's also happening on iOS devices.

-it has only happened recently, like in the past two weeks.

-it is not device specific.

-it is not browser specific.

-it does seem to be specific to the mgoblog.com website.

I prefer not to use the App except on my iPhone, for the several reasons stated above. So it is a site issue; who is our esteemed webmaster on mgoblog?

Me too.  I had something absolutely genius that I was just fuming to add to a discussion this week, but was logged out every time I tried.  By the time I got to a computer, the moment had passed.  God, the insight you guys all lost out on!  Tragedy indeed.

We've been getting scattered reports but nothing that gave us an overall picture of the problem so it's been hard to track down. This will help, thank you.

... I thought it was a Windows Phone issue, and I didn't want to bring it up since people would ridicule me for owning a windows phone, despite it actually being by far the best phone I have owned (most recent comparable was iPhone 5c which I bought at the same time and returned).

I have an iPhone 5 and an iPad Air both with iOS 7 using Safari and this has same thing has been intermittently happening on both over the last few weeks:

I've been logged out when changing between posts and even going to another page within the same post. I have even logged in, wrote a comment, and after saving it, a pop up said I'm not authorized to post and suddenly I'm no longer logged in.

It's happened more on the iPad than on the iPhone.

Both on 8.0 and 8.0.2.  It does not happen with other sites (e.g. tor.com).

It is very consistent for me - I load the main page, I'm logged out.  I log in, click on an article.  If it's in the same tab, I occasionally stay logged in, but usually not.  If it's a new tab, I am definitely logged out.

Even when I'm logged in, I often get a 403 Forbidden when trying to up or down vote.

If you think a Charles Proxy trace would be useful, I might be able to get one for you, especially if you're specific about what actions to take while tracing.

To review this subject again in the hope that a viable answer would be posted.

The two options mentioned as possible solution are Puffin  and/or download the app.  Here we go...........
