Not really...I mean I'm sure a lot of people where them because they're "in"

But they really do help. Especially basketball players who are constantly wearing out there joints on a hard wood floor. The same reason runners and track athletes have worn them for practice for years.

Also provides a little protection when you dive on the floor - which is a bonus.

The compression helps with blood flow, helps keep your muscles warm, helps with all of tendenitis and all that good stuff. 

Is it's a miracle worker? No. But like Harbaugh says, 1% better, if it's makes you feel better, recover better, play better...why not?

They do have a purpose.
