Is malware back?

Submitted by 08mms on

Google chrome tossed me a malware warning when I tried to load up the site.  I run MacOS so I was willing to run the risk and click-through, but anyone else having this problem?

This is one of the things I hate about mgo. You come on here to say ditto here? I realize that its prolly lonely in Alaska and you prolly don't have a lot of friends but do you really think anyone else gives a shit if you're running OSX?

So why have the thread in the first place? Why did the site ever go down before? If Brian knew every single thing in the world, there would be no thread about problems on browsers and the site wouldn't have crashed before. Brian is smart, he's not all-knowing.

Are we just here to listen to your amazing jokes and humor? If so, I'm disappointed I haven't gotten to hear some awesome Brett Farve/peeing in buttz jokes. Those are hilarious and you do an excellent job satirizing a "normal" blog poster.

is an evil genius who only cares about separating people from their money. Kind of like Colnel Sanders, who puts an addictive chemical in his chicken that makes you crave it fortnightly.

Chrome is giving me the same message, but I have AVG, and it hasn't picked anything up

On the plus side, the timing is far better this time then last. Sucked trying to get info having just changed coaching staffs and being close to signing day. Offseason is a far better time for the site to explode.

When I checked the Google page ("Why was this page blocked?" button) it shows that Google has not detected any problems with the page. However, the host network for MGoBlog, AS28144, "THEPLANET", contains sites with malware, which is why Google is blocking it.

It's probably run by a bunch of tOSU grads....

Brian says its the ads, maybe he could disable them for a day just to make sure that its the ads and not a larger problem on the site.

I think it was Friday, but every 5 min or so while having the site up it would start to open/download a file. I have a Mac so I wasn't worried and pressed cancel. Buy I wonder what it was doing to all the PC ppl. Whisk I could remember the name of the file

I'm on safari on a Mac and haven't had a problem, but over the last couple of weeks my PC hasn't wanted to let me in either. I'm wondering if there isn't a bigger problem than the ads?

I am getting malware warnings on mgoblog.com with Safari 4.1.3 with mac OS X 10.4.11 on old iMac LCD with PowerPC G4 chip.  Since I don't have an intel chip, I threw caution to the win and turned off the warning and posted here.  I get similar warnings with Safari on Mac OS X 10.6.8 with intel chips.

When you click through the warning to Google entry for the mgoblog.com site, it seems benign.

good luck!

P.S. - No malware warnings on my iPodTouch with mobile Safari with iOS version 4.2.1 - Not sure if they access the google malware database.  While Safari, Firefox and Chrome all use Webkit on Mac OS X, this does not seem like a Webkit bug, rather a Google malware database effect.

I don't use Adblock because most of the sites I frequently visit I'd like the chance to support through advertising, and occasionally I have bought useful things from the banner ads (God am I a sucker for Michigan apparel).  I do use a flash-block though, becuase people who use obnoxious flash ads are not worth my time.

I'll stop using adblock when these sites do something about the ad servers.  If you are looking to spend your money on UM gear then google can be your friend, you don't need ads filled with malware to ruin your mgoblog experience.  Believe me when I tell you that when you get some nastiness that wipes all your stuff out you'll be kicking yourself and wondering why you wanted to view those ads.

If you use Chrome or FF you'll still get that message due to the google police state in effect.  Whether or not there is malware, someone got hit and had it reported as a malware distro site.
