M #2 in CFP

Submitted by mi93 on November 30th, 2021 at 7:16 PM

M jumps 3 spots to #2.  Georgia still 1, Bama still 3, Cincy still 4.  Ok St is now 5, THWND, 6.

The biggest joke...o$u somehow #7 after being bullied off the field.  Ahead of all other 2-loss teams.

Beat Iowa.

Kudos to Herbie taking a dig at Pollack. "You still thing Michigan St should be ahead of them because of head to head?" Pollack was speechless, probably paralyzed with rage.

Somewhat interesting that (if we beat Iowa, no jinxes) the first year we'll make the playoff is a year that we would probably have made the BCS national championship.

Same. I even told my girlfriend during Penn State week that I predicted we'd have the same result against both PSU and OSU. It just felt like if this team could win at PSU, they weren't going to squander the opportunity to win the Big Ten East at home (I also assumed OSU would beat MSU along with that).

And yet, it still hasn't fully sunk in that... it actually happened. What a season!

What colors are Michigan fans wearing on Saturday to support the team? Iowa jerseys will be black and yellow so not sure if their fans also wear yellow. Are we wearing maize or blue?

This year, we've smartly worn whatever uni's help us stand out from our opponent.  So vs red teams (Maryland, Ohio State, Wisconsin), we've worn blue pants (or all blue) and versus the blue or green teams, we busted out the maize pants (MSU, Penn State).  Went all white vs Nebraska.

So if I had to guess, it's blue pants city, baby!  Our secret weapon :-)

This makes sense - assuming UGA beats Bama (not a certainty) and we beat Iowa (also not a certainty) that wold likely have us playing Cincinnati and UGA playing Ok St (assuming they beat Baylor).

If there is justice in the world, then yes. Cinci should never have been fourth. When SMU-SMU, was treated as a statement win enabling them to move up, you know we are voting charitably, instead of looking at 10 of their wins as fraudulent for playing terrible quality opposition. They can't beat any of the top four, and maybe only 1-2 of the top ten, in a playoff scenario.

usually one or sometimes both the semifinals are blowouts, they're the frauds, and the committee doesn't seem to understand where they went wrong.  Here are the real frauds (get it!):

FSU, losing 59-20 to Oregon

MSU 38-0

OSU 31-0

OU, twice  37-17, 63-28

ND, 30-3

Maybe even Clemson 24-6 to Alabama.

Depending on the margin of victories, I think so too.  I could see them wanting to reward the top seed (UGA) with the perceived weakest opponent (Cinn).  Interestingly, the fancy stats (S&P+) actually have Cincinnati higher than Ok State (and UM!), so perhaps facing Ok St would be the preferred result.

Probably not since Cinci plays a real opponent this week as well, but that will be a heated debate.  And if Bama beats UGA, that'll be for the fourth spot so would be a lot more riding on it.  My guess is Cinci stays ahead if they both win, but might also matter how convincing each respective win is (a la OSU crushing Wisconsin by 59 or whatever in 2014 and passing a couple teams that also won).

If Oklahoma State beats #9 Baylor, would they jump Cincinnati to third (assuming Alabama loses to Georgia)?

I don't think so.  ND is now locked in (they are done playing) as a better win for Cincy than what Ok State's best win would be.

There is a lot of momentum this year to treat Cincinnati as if they were a P5 team.  Dropping them back for staying undefeated would be a bad look for the CFP committee.

Why do you have an issue with where OSU is ranked? Aren't they certainly the best 2-loss team? I thought they should have been ahead of ND. No one thinks ND beats OSU on a neutral field.

As expected. Beat Iowa and book hotels in Dallas area. UGa wins and they will choose to play in Miami. Bama wins and they’ll jump us to #1 and also choose Miami imo. Bama winning would be bad as it would likely drop UGA to 3 - no chance committee would put Bama/UGA as a semifinal game.
