Listen to the game on your phone?

Submitted by GoBlueSimon on

I have the unenviably task of moving this weekend, and until they moved the game, I had it all planned out where we would be done before 8, so I could watch Michigan.  Now that they play at noon, I my plans are ruined.  Anyone know of an app where they stream the game, but my phone screen doesn't have to be on for the sound to continue (BTN2GO requires your screen to be on for the stream to continue)?

Thanks!

If you know someone who will be at the game call them and have them hold out the phone. I find it's the best way to get that authentic game feel as if you're watching it on tv.
Also, tune-in radio app.

I used this app to listen to the OSU (ntOSU) game while driving home from Tennessee. Worked great except for one point in the broadcast when it switch from Brandstatter/Dierdorf to the OSU broadcast team and then back again.

I tried streaming the first game on WTKA so I could listen and watch. It was just nonstop commercials for the first 15 minutes so I gave up on WTKA. Then I tried the WWJ app and the app itself actually said "Michigan vs Utah college football" or something and had a Block M logo and everything. And all I got was commercials.

how TKA does that.  They won't tell you that they're not streaming the game, they just play commercials and PSAs on a big loop.  Then it's up to you to figure out whether the game is going to come on, or if you're in commercials hell indefinitely.  Unfortunately, most of their streams begin with commercials, so you have to listen to a few before you can figure that out.

So if I have to listen (which happens less frequently since we reloed back to the US) I usually go to MGoBlue.com and listen to the stream from there.  Always reliable.

Michigan football games have been available through streaming. I use the free smart phone app Tunein Radio. One 15 second add at the beginning, then streaming with the Michigan football network stations.

Go to "Game Central" on the football homepage of mgoblue.com.  There will be a listen button there.  Go Blue!!!  I live in Florida and use this all the time.  I guess because of contractual restrictions radio stations can't live stream the game.

One note to listening online....if you truly love the "surprise" of hearing things happening live...I suggest you do NOT combine this with the viewing Open thread or a live blog. It was torture for me a few times in the past few years seeing that (another) INT was coming before hearing it live. I suppose it would work the same with big plays/touchdowns, but haven't had much experience with that during the Borges/Hoke era.

It's a good thirty seconds or so. I mean, you can try to delay your TV broadcast to match it with the radio stream, but it's a pain in the ass and commercials might mess with the delay, so you're better just listening to the TV broadcast and watch it live.

Football Radio App in the App Store.  Has all the games, you can pick if you want home or away announcers, works every time for me.  Enjoyed listening to the BYU announcers last week.  The schadenfreude was sweet.

On a somewhat related note, has anyone else had issues with the WTKA app over the last few weeks? Not just the live stream game issues noted above (commercial circle of hell), but just regular live streaming for Sam & IRA on the Michigan Insider? For the past few weeks all I've gotten is "Streaming Redirection Error." I've tried deleting and downloading the app, etc.

Anyone else have this problem? And help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.

All the time. Mgoblue.com, pop it in my coat pocket and head out to get what I need done. As far as anyone else I encounter in public knows, I just sound like Michigan football. Works like a charm.

Also you can subscribe to the SiriusXM for the internet and the game is being broadcast there. Not sure what Sirius channel will be carrying it, but it's on XM204.

This is always good info to know because Michigan's radio deal for the Detroit market is atrocious. WWJ has a very shaky signal over a good part of SE Michigan, especially in Washtenaw and Livingston counties. Why CBS radio won't put us on one of their FM channels, I do not know.
