Knowing that Denard's elbow can go at any time, how will you cope?

Submitted by iawolve on

Obviously any player can get hurt at any time in football since it is a violent sport, this is not even couting the non-contact injuries that happen. However, I don't really think about injuries when I am watching a game. It doesn't enter my mind since 99.9% (just making that up, no real stat) of the plays do not result in a serious injury. So when I read Al's comment today in the DetNews regarding Gardner's prep:

"He's got to do it now because you don't know what's going to happen. Denard's gonna be OK, but who knows what's going to happen next time."

From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20121031/SPORTS0201/210310334#ixzz2AslU1jCT

I feel the need to crawl back under the covers. Knowing that Denard getting hit or simply falling down might take him out of the game will make viewing the game a less than pleasurable experience. I normally reserve the strong stuff for rivalry games just to calm the nerves, but I am not sure what I will need to resort to now with this new and exciting game of elbow roulette.

Does this information change your game experience or is it just the same? Interested in hearing about the board's coping mechanisms.

Well if you don't like it sunshine, don't read it.

I can joke about anything I want, I'm a grown adult. You can choose to read what I post or to skip over it. It makes no difference to me.

And I have never once claimed to be funny, amusing, or classy.

Michigan has more wins than anyone. I will cope by knowing Hoke and company have this program moving in the right direction. I will cope by knowing when Michigan wins, they do it the right way. I will cope by knowing " those who stay will be champions ". Go Blue.....

I've resigned myself to the fact that we will probably not win our division and that we will probably have another huge Citrus Bowl send off for a fan favorite. If we do win our division, I'll end up being pleasantly surprised. If we don't get to do a send off for Denard, I'll cry myself to sleep at night until next season starts. It might even continue after that depending on how our QBs look.

The bad part here is that teams like Ohio, who are coached to play dirty and hate Michigan anyway, are going to go after the elbow, much like MSU goes after the head and neck of Michigan QB's.  My impression is that Minny, NW, and Iowa usually play fairly clean, so the danger level should be normal there.

I hope he makes it through the season.  Michigan can still win out and finish with a decent year.

I think Denard will be fine. If we win out and go 9-3 I think we have had a great season. 2 losses to two of the top 4 and a loss where Denard goes out in the 2nd qtr in a game we all know would have been ours to win.

I'm certainly not going to beat myself up over this season.

If we have a lead:  Hope the defense shuts the opponent down

If we are down:  Hope the defense forces turnovers on their side of the field and Gibbons can kick us to victory

If we are playing Illinois:  Business as usual

This reminds me very much of Oregon in 2007. They were probably the best team of the nation, but when Dennis Dixon went down, they turned into a pretty mediocre team. Obviously we're not the best in the nation, but we go from B1G contender (favorite, really) to middling just with a simple arm twinge from Denard.

I will be at the game supporting team 133 coping with the injury of a player as I normallydo:  wishing them a speedy recovery and cheering for who ever is on the field.  That being said does anyone know a speedy nerve-recovery-specialist?  They will be in Minnesota for godsakes...stop by the Mayo clinic and see someone.

For the most part I believe the coaching staff is doing a great job, but on the subject of giving Gardner more reps at QB I believe they are making a serious mistake.  They 1st need to improve the blocking upfront.  To much attention has been given to the defense side and not enough on the offense, especially the the offensive line.  They should also increase Bellemy's time at QB during the week of practice and place more pressure on him to simulate game time experience.  Giving more reps to DG only adds another variable to the equation limiting the amount of time to focuse on the Offensive line and the backup QB.  By focusing on these two variables they are also preparing themselves for next year.  GO BLUE!
