Knowing that Denard's elbow can go at any time, how will you cope?

Submitted by iawolve on

Obviously any player can get hurt at any time in football since it is a violent sport, this is not even couting the non-contact injuries that happen. However, I don't really think about injuries when I am watching a game. It doesn't enter my mind since 99.9% (just making that up, no real stat) of the plays do not result in a serious injury. So when I read Al's comment today in the DetNews regarding Gardner's prep:

"He's got to do it now because you don't know what's going to happen. Denard's gonna be OK, but who knows what's going to happen next time."

From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20121031/SPORTS0201/210310334#ixzz2AslU1jCT

I feel the need to crawl back under the covers. Knowing that Denard getting hit or simply falling down might take him out of the game will make viewing the game a less than pleasurable experience. I normally reserve the strong stuff for rivalry games just to calm the nerves, but I am not sure what I will need to resort to now with this new and exciting game of elbow roulette.

Does this information change your game experience or is it just the same? Interested in hearing about the board's coping mechanisms.

This is the problem with building a team through recruitment that over-relies on one player.  Because of this over-reliance on Denard, we run an ofense where the running back is running sideways for a handoff.  The running back should go sideways for a pitchout sweep, but for inside the tackles, quickness and power are key elements so the running back should be powering downhill.

I als think the ND interceptions did a lot of damage to our passing attack, so guess where defenses are focusing?

We are running our backs sidesways into a defense that is looking for just that.  If the D linemen hold their own, the linebackers fill the gaps and ..... that's it, folks.

I know I am not a coaching/tactics guru, so this is just my simplistic view.

no joke its hoke

As someone with nerve damage/problems, I hope its nothing more serious. a problem with the ulnar nerve isn't always because its been hit. he could have a neck issue that's helping the problem. I'm not saying that's the case here, but it could be. I never knew I had a neck problem until my ulnar nerve started swelling and making my hand hurt.

To the OP's statement about viewing experience, I wouldn't say it changes my viewing experience. I would think that my viewing experience would be lessened perhaps if I didn't think this staff was doing what it believed to be right and making logical moves in the event we saw Denard out of action again, but I trust this staff to do what it believes will win the game with the tools they have. They have proven themselves to be quite adept at this overall really.

As for coping mechanisms, like others, the old standby....
