Seeing those highlights makes me realize how good we have it at Michigan. I have to tip my cap to Edsall for what he is done at Uconn but will still enjoy kicking their ass to start the season.

Zach Frazer was 8 of 14 for 307 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. Precess that for a second. The QB was just over 50% completion percentage with a pick, but still averaged almost 40 yard per completion! How the hell do you throw a pick against a secondary that bad?

What a productive scrimmage...
In fairness to the defense, there were no schemes, blitzes or any kind of packages instituted for the scrimmage. Everything was pretty basic. The Huskies will be more aggressive up front than what they showed Saturday. Safety Kijuan Dabney, the introspective one, put it in perspective.
makes me feel a little better about UM's

UCONN had a decent season last year, but their schedule sucked. they won most of their games against weak teams like louisville, rhode island and baylor. they couldn't handle rutgers at home

Wow. I don't think I've seen people on this board disrespect a team this bad ever. It's pretty ludicrous to say we're gonna kick their ass when the only conference opponent we beat last year was Indiana. Way to be fellas.

Couldn't agree more. UConn is a good team who beat ND in close to the same fashion as we did last year. Remember, UM has a habit of losing to underrated no names. This game is going to be far from easy, and this team doesn't deserve disrespect.

If we lose this game, I will probably have to turn my phone off for a week, especially after all the crap I talked when we beat them in basketball. Seriously, though, they are for real. They may even be favored in this game. However, Pat White is every Husky's nightmare. If Denard Robinson is half as good, Edsall will have a very difficult time. I remember West Virginia hung up 66 points against UConn when Rodriguez was there (that's right 66 points, or three more than we scored against Delaware State). Beyond that, Pat White pulled off some magical plays. It looked like he was toying with the UConn defense. Mike Shaw isn't Steve Slaton, and Denard isn't Pat White (yet) but Rodriguez has had success against UConn. NOTE: I'm not touting Robinson as the first-day starter, only using him as a comparison point because he is more similar to White than Tate.

actually makes me feel so much better. Knowing that Rodriguez has seen UConn and Edsall's stuff before and knows exactly how to beat them quells a few fears. I still think UConn can be a good team, but like us, they are extremely inconsistent (Lost to North Carolina in a shitty low-scoring game and then outshot ND). No, Shaw and Denard aren't Slaton and White, but I also think M has more weapons then that WV team did. The biggest difference-maker will probably still be Rodriguez.

I would like to beat them, and I expect to beat them. I also expect Michigan to play its butt off to do so, which is what they will have to do all year.

You are absolutely right. I believe Michigan wins this game; but, not because "We're Michigan!!!!!!!". But, because I think Michigan will out hustle, and out work a good UConn team. I'm not overlooking this game (which by the way doesn't matter, I'm not on the team nor am I a coach.) I just believe next season is going to be a good one, and it starts with a win against Uconn.

Didn't we have similar concerns last year before the WMU game? Hiller coming back after awesome passing numbers the year before, a high-scoring offense, spotty-ish defense, etc...

I like how when Edsall makes folksy jokes about their receivers buying speed at KMART, their beat writers laugh it up. If Rodriguez makes a joke like that it probably triggers a month-long investigation over possible steroid-use from our beat writers. Can we trade???

It's crucial for Michigan to be healthy across the board. I know it's stating the obvious, but we still don't have the depth to compete at a high level w/ our backups. If Michigan stays fully healthy and can get come competence in the back 7 then we beat UCONN and ND imo.

I mean no disrespect to UConn when I say this, but I think we win this game big. Here's why: - Rodriguez will have most/all of his playbook installed and at the ready. - Denard/Tate will stretch the field against a mediocre defense and a (very) young secondary. - Solid offensive and defensive line play. - Our secondary coming out with something to prove. Sprinkle that with the inspiration of seeing Brock Mealer leading the team out on the field. Going to be a great day to be a Wolverine.

I think we not only win this game, but do so by a big margin. Denard and Tate will both play, but Denard will put on a show. Also, like last year, our defense will come out looking strong, and will hold UConn to under 20. The defense just has to remain effective for the rest (or at least most) of the season.

If RR has done one thing well since he's been here, it's been coming out ready to play on opening day. In our first season, we couldn't beat anyone, yet we came within a missed 2pt conversion of taking Utah to OT, closer than any team played them all year, including Bama. The opponent in last year's opener wasn't as good as Utah, but they were a solid WMU who we beat HANDILY, even though we couldn't finish .500. My point, is that RR's Michigan teams, if nothing else, have played very well, first game of the season. If this trend continues, UConn doesn't stand a chance.

I expect the team will be ready to play come the UCONN game. I'm confident the team will play well and I do think we will win, but the talk on this post seems a bit brash to me! UCONN had a difficult season last year-the one player getting killed must of had an impact on team focus- but they were in every game they lost; they lost all their games by a combined 13 points so they didn't get pasted by noone. Also, they finished the season with 4 straight wins; again, I think we will win but to dis' UCONN the way many of us have is a big mistake.

South Carolina fans told us we've never seen "SEC SPEED" like theirs. Baylor fans told us we couldnt handle the speed of robert griffen. Notre Dame fans told us we couldn't compete with their rich tradition. Apparently now we'll be blown out by Michigans superior spring game attendance. Oh well, Uconn makes a living of oppenents taking them lightly, don't see how this is much different.

We're arrogant, if you hadn't noticed. We have SEC SPEED, a guy faster than Robert Griffen, and richer tradition than Notre Dame. We're MICHIGAN!!!1!!!one1 But seriously, I think UConn should be favored and that they'll play a very good game. The homer in me just can't say that the Huskies will win.

WolvinLA2

April 20th, 2010 at 8:00 PM ^

Do you really think UConn will be favored? They had a pretty average season last year, and they lose their best player in a handful of position groups. They haven't recruited well ever so there's no reason to think they'll improve beyond where they've been the last few years. Also, they're playing on the road at a newly rededicated Michigan Stadium in front of 110,000. I'm not promising a blow out by any means, but to say UConn should be favored is a little silly. If they are, you better believe I'm taking M straight up.

ConnecticutPride

April 20th, 2010 at 9:43 PM ^

best players did we lose? Oh and ask Notre Dames big bad 5 star recruits how they fared against little ole uconn's 2 star guys. Uconn put four 2* and 3* recruits into the first 2 rounds of the nfl draft last year, and will likely have 2 or 3 more "unknown" guys get drafted in the 2010 draft. I'll take our "scrub" recruits to compete with michigans big bad boys any day of the week. Uconn has only been playing at the div 1 a level for 6 years and we've come extremely far. There are plenty of reasons to believe we'll improve.

April 20th, 2010 at 9:54 PM ^

I don't know if UConn will be favored or not, now that I look at it more closely I think M will be a slim favorite. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to give UConn the slight edge, as they did perform much better than M last year, and it does not look lik we will be too much improved, especially on defense. UConn shouldn't improve too much (or at all, I've seen some say that there will be a regression), but I don't know if Vegas will think we're good enough to favor us. I do think M wins though, UConn's secondary is not good at all - worse than ours even.

You guys have no right to claim that UConn had an average season last year when they lost by a total of 15 points over 5 games and lost 3 games in a row essentially due to various emotions from Jazz Howard's death. UConn basically lost all their games because of one fluke play in each game. Rutgers - 82 yard pass with 30 seconds to go Pittsburgh - Up like 17 going into the 4th. UNC - Up 10-0 going into the 4th, lose on a judgment-call safety. Cincy - Fight back to make it 35-33, basically lose b/c of a huge mis-call on a 2 pt conversion. WVU - Noel Devine runs 60 yards with 2 minutes to go to get the game winning TD. You guys are in for a shock (as many other team's fans are: see USC and ND) on that Saturday. This UConn team doesn't get blown out.
