Kinda OT- Best football player you went to school with

Submitted by YakAttack on
I realized I was schoolmates with quite a few college football players. Eddie Woods (Grambling ST.) Michael Woods (EMU/transfer) in elementary school. Jacob Stewart and Alex Ofili (UofM), Walt Church (EMU) and Frank Ofili (Toledo) in HS. Kinda fun

Uh, I had a class with Marques Slocum, and got stuck in a workgroup with him. The group leader called on him to answer a question, and he said, "I don't know, I'm not used to standing up in class. I'm used to standing up to get awards and shit." And he left class 40 minutes early every week. The class was an hour long.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that was the only thing he said all semester. There were a few other football players in the class, actually, but I didn't follow it quite closely enough then, so I didn't know who they were.

He took me to the game, introduced me to Marcus Ray, John Wagoner and Fred Jackson...(sp?) 2 days before the game he had me scheduled to go on a tour of facilities and I couldn't make it but a couple of my friends went and they met Mario Manningham, Mike Hart, Lloyd Carr and Glenn Steele. This past spring game he had a couple of tickets. He asked me if I wanted to go but it was too damn cold...lol I actually was thinking of seeing if I could get him to set something up, as far as tour wise, to see if I could meet RR.

I went to school with a lot of sweet players considering I have a degree from Michigan. If you are talking about high school, nobody notable during my years but I missed Aaron Moorehead by one year... was the 5th receiver on the Colts for a few years. Also a backup QB currently at Stanford was in my younger bro's class.

Yeah, it is kind of disappointing. My sophomore year on the team was one of the last really good years, but since then it's just been kind of meh... Seems like all of the better talent in the area is going to either PC or Mattawan (they've had a team for about 5 years now) in recent years. Times change I guess. The funny thing is that football has been pretty good in the last 10 years or so. I'm not sure who the gym teacher is; might have been a little before my time(?). Not sure. Anyway, glad to see another PN grad on here. What year did you graduate?

Brian Grabowski, plays for....Findlay? Something, I'm not really sure. Played against Westerns Backup fullback and was 1 game in the playoffs away from having to try and block Brandon Graham. Thank god that didn't happen as I was 170 pounds then and wouldn't be here today. Our school is much better at wrestling, Sean Misko at Olivet, Jordan McKiernen at Lindwood, Lance Pitcel at Mercyhurst, and Brian Peterson at Minnesota. Went to a different school in the morning with Michigan's option 1b. at HWY, Chad Bleske.

Carson "Take A Chance On Me" Butler. And Andre Criswell. Actually, it could very well turn out that the two best football players I went to high school with are Chris Norman and Dana Dixon, two 09 FYS recruits.

went to HS with Corby Jones in columbia, MO - QB of the missouri team that lost to nebraska in the infamous 'kicked TD' game that negates any claim they might have to the '97 championship since they are Cheaty McCheatersons. hometown kid that kind of kick-started the tigers program to national prominence a short 10 years later.

I went to high school with Eric Wilson (Michigan DT and captain, spent time in NFL with Lions and Dolphins) and Carl Ford (Toledo WR, spent time in NFL with Eagles and Bears).

I went to Divine Child High School and while I didn't really play with any big name players I did play against Braylon Edwards (Bishop Gallagher) in the Silverdome and Jermaine Gonzales (Orchard Lake). Braylon had like 180 yds and 4 TDs and Gonzales played QB and just ran sideline to sideline until he found a crease, the kid never got tired.

Same here. Too bad DC football has been pretty bad for years. Only noteworthy player I can think of that recently came out of DC is Todd Boleski, but he kicks for MSU, so fuck him.

I went to Romulus in the late 90's so I was able to play alongside of some decent talent. Some of the players that came through the school were; Fred Russell(99 Michigan Commit but Iowa player), Mike and Eddie Woods of Southern and Eastern respectively. Chris Talley of Eastern. Jon Wester of Eastern and the few others of the Romulus 7 who didnt' qualify academically. Yakattack, you go to Merriman in Romulus for elementary?

Played (more like practiced against) with Carl Tabb (former WR for the Wolverines and now in medical school) and his cousin Jeff Jenkins (former RB for Notre Dame). Kelleher, a quarterback, played at Princeton the last four years as a safety. We had a couple of other guys go DII and DIII. Also, currently are home to Jeremy Jackson, a 2010 recruit. He looks to be plenty good. Side note - played against Saginaw my senior year when they had Woodley, James Jackson and Anthony Rogers (Charles Rogers little brother). Woodley was an absolute monster, but to this day, I will still say that Rogers had more of an impact on that game than any other player. I don't think he played college ball anywhere (heard he signed with CMU?) but I know that he was amazing. MSU really wanted him but there was no way he could have gotten in with the grades he had.

...but when I was a kid I used to go to every high school game in Middletown, Ohio (Chris Carter being the most well-known player to come from there). I saw Jeff Cothran play for Middletown, who later went on to play FB for OSU and the Bengals. Watching him was what caused me to appreciate just how good D-I players are, b/c against high-level high school competition he looked like Jim Brown and then at OSU they turned him into a blocking back.

I didn't go to HS with any current football players, but Eric Emblad (Hockey) and Michelle Weatherdon (Softball, on the National Champ team in 05)

I had a class with Cameron Joplin at Pioneer a couple of years ago. He went to Northwestern as a tight end; if I remember correctly, he was the first football player to go from Pioneer to a Big Ten school since. . .someone who was there before I was. It had been awhile, I think. Oh, and Nader Furrha.
