Kicker JJ McGrath announces decision date and top 3

Lutheran-North Macomb Kicker JJ McGrath visited Michigan today and came away impressed. The 6'3, 230 pound kicker was offered a preferred walk on spot at the end of his visit. McGrath has a powerful leg as many of his kickoffs resulted in a touchback, and he also connected on a 52 yards field goal, which is the 8th longest field goal in State history. I think McGrath would be a great get at the preferred walk on spot, and it sounds like he can earn a scholarship once Gibbons' career with Michigan is over. McGrath named a top 3 of Michigan, LSU and Southern Miss (in no order) and stated he will announce his decision on Friday.

Straight (and long) are generally desired characteristics of a kicker or a golfer.  Unless your slice is so predictable that you can aim it at the rough/trees and have it end up in the middle of the fairway.

Same full ride given to every USAFA cadet. Think of it as another preferred walk-on offer.

Our kick coverage was weak. I doubt we'll have 3 kickers on schollies in the future but we could have him and Kenny on schollie in a couple of years.

Gibbons, Wile and Hagerup (or replacement).

Soonest is 2014 after Gibbons grauates. Especially with a long-snapper using another schollie starting next summer.

How good has Gibbons been since the Sugar Bowl? He stepped it up big time. It almost made me forget about the horror days of kicking. Wile was good for a couple bombs as well.

watch a few games with Gibbons under RR?  I can name one game in particular.  The 2010 Illinois game comes to mind.  Hell MGrowOld with Brian holding could have kicked better in that game.
