Kendrick Nunn dismissed from Illinois

Stemming from a Domestic Violence arrest that he had. Basketball-wise, it is a pretty substantial loss to them (he averaged about 15.5 points and 5 rebounds last year, torched us for 23). They suspended him immediately after it happened months ago, and waited on the results of the case (he plead guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery) to make a final decision. Illini basketball just got a lot less dangerous.

Exactly, he was punished as soon as they knew something bad happened, but waited for all of the facts and for everything to play out before any permanent decisions were made.

Glad to see there are other schools in the conference doing the right thing and showing zero tolerance toward domestic violence.

...I can gaurantee that we did NOT strike fear into those teams.  Despite scrapping out close wins against them once, they absolutely destroyed us in the other game we played them (Purdue times 2).

Those teams are head and shoulders better than us in just about every asset of the game.  No good team feared us last year.

would be Maryland with Gary Williams.  The Terps went to back to back Final Fours, winning it all the second time, and then never came close to replicating that.  They made the Sweet 16 the year after winning it all, and then never made it past the first weekend.  In the 9 years Williams coached Maryland after they won it all they had double digit losses in 6 of those years, and the two years they didn't have double digit losses they lost 9 games.

Other colleges need to take note. This is the proper way to handle these situations.

Even though I thought the handling of Frank Clark was swift and appropriate given that circumstance

"Nunn was one of three basketball players arrested on violent offenses shortly after the season ended" Does that sound curious to anyone else? The article doesn't mention when the crimes happened.

shortly after the season ended.

Nunn-domestic battery March 17'ish

Jaylon Tate misdemeanor domestic abuse  that same week

Leron Black,  aggravated assault, unclear when the offense occured but it was within a week or two of the end of season

Darius Paul was dismissed from the team the previous Fall for "misconduct" on a team trip

I think the jokes about Baylor/Tennessee/MSU regarding violence against women and rape are pretty disgusting. Not really seeing the humor in making light of a very serious situation.

No the disgusting thing is all three schools covering up the incidents.

I mean it was a serious situatuon and all three schools did nothing - that's disgusting.

He's recruited at a decent level but the results simply haven't been there.  Granted, he's had some bad luck with injuries and boneheaded decisions by his players, but the bottom line is that Illinois has gotten worse each season since he took over.

23-12: NCAA second round

20-15: NIT second round

19-14: NIT first round

15-19: no postseason

I really thought he'd be a solid coach. Turned Ohio into a pretty good team, and in fact nearly made the Elite 8 a few years ago, a half court shot rimming out at the buzzer.

Appears to be one of those coaches who fits perfectly in a mid-major.
