Just Rewatched The Michigan/Iowa MBB (and focused on Juwan)
First off, the rumors are about Juwan and Sanderson getting into an altercation. They seem to be substiated because everyone is on the bench except Sanderson.
1. The rumor that Juwan punched Sanderson seems to be a rumor and is getting dispelled in real time as of 10:45pm ET (conflicting reports).
2. As someone who works in college athletics (at the P5 level)...there is almost a 0% chance Juwan travels with the team if he truly punched another university employee. Even if it was self-defense it is unlikely he'd travel for this game (though not impossible). But those "in the know" are downgrading it to a heated argument that got a little physical (some words, possible some shoving). *my rumor* but maybe it was one of those things where someone says, "I don't need this shit...I quit." Maybe it's less about the argument and more about the result? We will see.
3. Rumor has it that it is over Jace.
4. I rewatched the game and Howard's demeanor and body language was HORRIBLE all game. He rarely clapped when we scored, there were timeouts when he didn't get out of his seat, and he spent 90% of the game slouched over, arms folded, legs out. He was checked out unless he was speaking to a player 1-on-1 (or Eisley who was sitting next to him).
5. Howard did randomly get up towards the end of the game and mentioned something to an Iowa player inbounding the ball, rubbed his shoulders, and patted him on the back.
6. Sanderson was no where to be found. I paused every huddle, I looked through the warm-up, he wasn't celebrating after big plays like normal, there were enough close-ups to see he wasn't there (and all of the ACs and Chris Hunter were on the bench).
7. There was a weird exchange late when Saddi and Eisley asked Martelli if he wanted the starters to go back in...Dug and Nimari were trying to check back in, so the coaches seemed to be asking on their behalf. Phil waved "no" and looked irritated. I don't think it was anything because Saddi then gets up, joins the huddle, and starts clapping to encourage the walk-ons and back-ups. "Nothing Burger" in my mind.
8. Juwan was in the locker room postgame with the team as they sung 'The Victors'...someone else can post the video.
9. Jace wasn't his typically "hype man" self either. He wasn't completely silent, but he also wasn't dancing and going nuts for his teammates in this one.
10. Fran McCaffey is a douchebag.

You take that back. Fran is a treasure.
December 10th, 2023 at 10:58 PM ^
I cannot. And thus, I shall not.
December 10th, 2023 at 11:46 PM ^
It was mostly in jest, but watching Fran lose his shit is a bit of a guilty pleasure.
December 10th, 2023 at 10:55 PM ^
I think we’ve had enough of the juwan experiment. He’s a terrible coach and recruiter considering his status
December 10th, 2023 at 11:04 PM ^
He has recruited great portal players (from P5 teams), who subsequently got blocked by admissions. He's not perfect, but it's a shit job when one of your biggest hurdles is your own University.
December 11th, 2023 at 12:49 AM ^
Caleb Love isn't great. Also just recruit different players. Scout more players, develop guys, do other things to overcome it. Terrance Shannon is good, but he's not some program defining player that should sink your team.
December 11th, 2023 at 1:02 AM ^
I saw Caleb Love playing a week ago and he was a beast.
December 11th, 2023 at 9:17 AM ^
Caleb Love the National Champion, and leading guard on the number one team in the nation is as you say, "not great!" You don't know $&@/ about basketball!!!
December 10th, 2023 at 10:58 PM ^
Source close to the program just told Josh [Henschke] it's "all nonsense". With all the smoke seems unlikely nothing happened, but probably not physical. Which again, would explain Howard being at the game.
December 10th, 2023 at 11:00 PM ^
Nonsense. Ok. Strength coach just missed the flight. No big deal.
December 10th, 2023 at 11:08 PM ^
Or, possibly, the guy at fault is the guy who isn't with the team.
December 10th, 2023 at 11:10 PM ^
Doubt it. That’s not what I have heard.
December 10th, 2023 at 11:21 PM ^
objection hearsay

Stop badgering the witness!
December 11th, 2023 at 1:00 AM ^
You're an idiot
December 11th, 2023 at 6:26 AM ^
Don't know who was at fault, but if this means the end of Sanderson's association with our program, that would be a shame. He's been here a long time and also happens to be the parent of a top recruit.

There are big deals, and there are medium sized deals. There are disagreements quite often everywhere. Weenies with nothing to do on message boards who are already predisposed to nitpicking brilliant players and multimillion dollar coaches while their frankfurters get cold in the microwave may or may not exaggerate, based on the tiny shreds of info that they seize on. Whole LOT of weenies around here, especially when it comes to basketball, where on any given night what people seem to even know about the game looks like it could fit in a thimble.

What a win! Any altercation should end Juwans tenure. This is his third incident.
December 10th, 2023 at 10:59 PM ^
recovering from heart surgery could be reason one to appear to have low energy on the bench.
December 10th, 2023 at 11:13 PM ^
Please don't use any comon sense it's disavowed in here.
December 10th, 2023 at 11:21 PM ^
comon man

Wow a smart phone being smart. Great catch, Philbert!

Seriously. Point 4 is ridiculous. Makes it sound like it's the first time all season the OP has watched a Michigan basketball game. Juwan isn't the head coach right now. And I haven't seen him particularly animated at any point, even when he got ejected. This isn't like Harbaugh where it's business as usual but he's not coaching the game. Presumably he's also taking a back seat in practices.
December 10th, 2023 at 11:01 PM ^
all in all this sounds like something the players do not need. my impression of the second half of the game was that it lacked the normal pep of a big ten game on both sides. team did some work and got a win. LFG
December 10th, 2023 at 11:05 PM ^
I saw him giving dap to several players when they were coming in and out if the game.
December 10th, 2023 at 11:10 PM ^
I'm old--What is giving dap, is it good or bad, and is it allowable in public?
December 10th, 2023 at 11:14 PM ^
Is dap like frottage?
December 10th, 2023 at 11:33 PM ^
What? Just ... God... No! Why would you say that?
December 10th, 2023 at 11:26 PM ^
Dap dates back to the Vietnam war - how old ARE you?
December 10th, 2023 at 11:15 PM ^
So did I. Can you imagine saying you rewatched that game and not seeing any emotion or dapping? Furthermore, Einstein I'm not sure if you're aware but certain surgeries cause lots of pain months after the initial surgery. Joy to the world.

Michigan athletes have shown tremendous resiliency lately. The football team won its toughest games on the schedule without its head coach in the midst of a media and B1G fire storm. The basketball won a significant B1G road game with this rumored stuff hanging over the team. I applaud all of these players.
December 10th, 2023 at 11:20 PM ^
I have been a believer in Juwan and still wish I wish. He had had some incidents which I have probably based on bias given him a pass.
With everything, why is he on the bench, but not as the HC. He can travel and be on the bench, coach from the bench, but not be a head coach?
in general, how is that good for the team? You can't have two talking heads
December 10th, 2023 at 11:27 PM ^
My favorite Fran incident is when he slammed a chair on the Breslin Center floor, damaging a piece of the floor.
MSU could have just replaced it and matched it perfectly and no one would know.............but
MSU put a new piece of wood in and stained it a very dark color, so for at least a season in front of the visitors bench there was one long piece of dark wood on their beautiful Breslin floor.

Back, and to the left. Back, and to the left. Back, and to the left.
December 10th, 2023 at 11:41 PM ^
If he's pissing off Sanderson, that's a problem. Beilein left him a full cupboard and we're on rations. I hope he's learning to become more flexible, but by all appearances he's in over his head....
December 10th, 2023 at 11:45 PM ^
11. I just rewatched Bewitched. At some point...there's, like, a totally different DarrIn. It's Dick York, Dick York, Dick York, then, all of a sudden, what the fuck, DARRIN IS DICK SARGENT. No explanation or anything. Something happened there. Something sinister. A Jom Bomb from back in that day said that York punched a makeup artist who called out Erin Murphy out for missing a session.
December 10th, 2023 at 11:51 PM ^
I heard Paul Lynde pushed York out of the picture for fear he might someday steal the center square.

This isn't your personal blog...
December 11th, 2023 at 6:24 AM ^
(and all of the ACs and Chris Hunter were on the bench)
Hunter was there? I've read elsewhere that he wasn't.

I won't knock the OP too much but posts like this feel a bit like 2020 when a vocal contingent wanted to fire Harbaugh so everyone went Zapruder and started to look for hidden meanings in press conferences, people started talking about CTE from his playing days, etc. Howard had heart surgery only 2 months ago, is still recovering, and didn't look more or less engaged than he has recently in my brief viewing.
If people want Howard gone then that's fine, but just argue the fact he's underwhelmed for a couple of years relative to expectations, his roster development from recruiting has been uneven, and he's twice now failed to bring in that impact transfer player to get him over the hump due to an inability to work with admissions. This team basically has one competent ball handler when Llewellyn is hurt, and they still struggle in close games and defense to a degree that isn't just luck or unfamiliarity with each other.
But argue that, not just that some rumor about Howard punched a coach in the face, then traveled to be on the sidelines 2 days later, and Warde Manuel and the rest of the UM AD is covering for him. We honestly don't know what's going on, and I'm sure it'll leak out. But right now this all feels like theatre for no good reason other than wishcasting that a coach people don't like gets fired for some morally acceptable reason.
