Jim Harbaugh will be in Norfolk tomorrow
negged
Harbaugh will break a bottle of whole milk. Champagne is too candy-ass for him.
Back in the day at 29 palms (7th Marines). When it came time to reenlist, I had Col Mattis swear me in. I also worked for him for a short time when I was at Regimental HQs. He would sometimes have mandatory PME training (Primary Military Education) on Fridays at 1300. We were to show up at The Stumps bar in town for refreshments. Hell of a Marine. Hell of a leader.
Man, this story and Navy Wolverine's below is what I love to see on here. Awesome that you have got to know the Mad Dog throughout your career. Thank you for your service!
CAPT McCormack is the Ford's Commanding Officer and was a classmate of mine at the Naval Academy. Rich is a great leader and an awesome naval aviator and test pilot. I can't think of a better person to command this amazing ship post commissioning. Hopefully we will get to see some pictures of him with Coach Harbaugh on Twitter tomorrow.
My Southwest flight attendant called it North Fork. Man I thought we were headed for the high plains.
In Nebraska, Norfolk is pronounced "Nor-fork," cuz puritanism and such.
Had a different name for it; No-Fuck. Big naval port, I'm kinda doubting that was accurate.
Bad Ass!
That would be cool!
Met Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon
the team would not visit President Pence in the White House next year after winning the national title - even if they disagree with his political views.
Ther is no way Harbaugh wouldnt show. You respect the office if not the man.
I guess my advice then for folks is to comment here BEFORE visiting the drinking thread. That might help stave off some of the comments that occasionally end up in such threads, at least for a little while anyway. Actually, as it is Friday, I might suggest that some just head straight for the beer fridge.
And Coach Brown is gonna get the Saxon
Recent story about the USS Ford 'supercarrier' in The Hill, indicating the cost for the Ford class ballooned from $27 billion to $36 billion. http://thehill.com/policy/defense/335907-navy-accepts-delivery-of-129b-…
That is the program developmental cost.
The unit cost (per carrier) is $12.9 billion.
Supposedly, the next in line, the USS John F Kennedy (CVN79), is coming in at $11.4 billion.
True. All the development overruns are charged against the first hull - the Ford. The price will continue to come down as construction and assembly are perfected and improved. The same thing happened with the Virginia class submarines. Each hull comes in a little cheaper and a little quicker. That said, $13B for something that can be sunk in a heartbeat, is a bit much. Especially when coupled to the F35, a vastly over-priced, under-performing piece of junk.
I saw the Ford several times when it was still being built. One of my wife's aunt's lived just over the Rt 17 drawbridge that goes past the shipyard. The only carrier I saw operationally was the Nimitz. We were both leaving Norfolk, and Nimitz was running us down - directly behind us and three times as fast. She told us to get out of the way, and we did. That's a big-ass ship!!
