I don’t understand why it’s taking so long to lock up at least the current staff members?  I can get a couple of positions where we have vacancies but you’d think assistants like Bellamy, Campbell, Clink and Elston would already be locked up. Not all of these are moving into coordinator roles so lock the ones up that are going to be positional coaches and the go after the vacancies and coordinators.

Not necessarily about Jay in particular but I have a question for the “They just won a title crowd”, how long does that last? 1 year? 5 years? Were the Rich Rod years okay because there was a title in 97?

Why can two things not be true? It is great to have a title and celebrate while at the same time expressing concern for the future.

I was a teenager when they won in 97.  I only had about 8-9 years of conscious Michigan fandom at that point.

I'm in my 40s now, and just spent the last 26 years (well over half my life) cheering for a team that seemed to be unable win the big one.

Well, they just won the biggest one.  As far as I'm concerned, I'm good for life.  You all can do all the panicking about the little things going forward.  Me?  Consider me good.  Anything else good on top of this going forward is just icing on the cake.

After 1997, seeing as how Michigan hadn't won since the 1940s, I figured I'd be good for life. What brought me down were the losing streaks to Ohio. Carr didn't have it any more, I was willing to give RichRod a chance (even thought he deserved 1 more year), then Hoke gave momentary hope, but then Meyer kept winning, and then Day. And again, I thought Harbaugh deserved a chance after the Covid year.

Then Harbaugh pledged "we're gonna do it, or die trying", and the last three years happened, gloriously. I doubt the regular season games will ever have the same sting or joy to them (for me, at least) with the expanded playoffs. So I again think I'm good for life. Ask me again, however, if Ohio ever beats us 6 or more times in a row.

I remember in 2021 we were very concerned about Giles Jackson and staff moves like Mo Linguist, and that was after a pretty demoralizing season. In 2022 we were worried about Gattis and Macdonald. Obviously, different today with Harbaugh, but also we know Moore was an architect of that too and a good gameday coach.

I'll be happy about this natty until at least August. First game I'll set my expectations for this season, and my hope for every team used to be the Big Ten 'ship but moving forward it'll be a playoff appearance, and of course the result of our rivalry games. So...when I think we're falling off that mark - which won't happen until the first game - my concerns will be more than just a head cocked to the side.

That or a starter transfers. I'd be more than just concerned at that point.

Remember when there was a lot of grousing about Sherrone Moore being moved from TE coach to offensive line?  There were a lot who thought the loss of Warinner was going to be significant, and he was being replaced by some random new guy, ie SM.  The result?  Two Joe Moore awards, and a third line that probably deserved it. Point is, we don’t know what’s going to happen. Period.  We’ll just have to wait until next season.

In regards to Jaybaugh, this has been in the works for a while.  My son’s friend works for the Jaybaughs-she was informed 3 weeks ago (yes, before the Chargers hire was announced) that her services were not going to be needed because they were moving to LA.  No idea why Jaybaugh hire wasn’t announced earlier.

Adding to this - I think in 2006 and 2007 I entered the season wanting a natty. Same in 2016. The only other year I've thought this way since becoming a fan in 2004 was this year. Most years a good season would be beating Ohio and/or winning the Big Ten - something we didn't do in my fandom until 2021.

So...I'm very happy. From 2014-2020, the kings of the sport were Bama, Clemson and OSU - in that order. From '21-23, it's just us and UGA - and unlike them, we didn't lose to Bama. I care about next year but I am still just enjoying my victory lap. WE ARE THAT TEAM. and it's not a one-off, we are undoubtedly one of the 2 best programs in post-Covid CFB. We had a freaking era. Would love to keep it going, but we are that team right now. And this was an all-time great team and an all-time great defense. Yea, I'm going to enjoy it.

There are three sides to the fanbase on this. On one side you have the “I’ll be satisfied for the next 20 years over this title” and on another side you have the “sky is falling crowd and that title is now in the past” and in the middle you have the rest of us that are elated with the title but also see that Harbaugh is the one who got us there with Ravens d coordinators, there are  portal changes, conference realignment, an antiquated university perspective on Nil, a lackadaisical AD, an incomplete staff currently and are genuinely curious how this thing is going to go in the next few years. The middle is where I’m at currently.

I think I fall solidly in between but I do not have anxiety about any of the things you listed. It's not because we won a championship, but because we're defending national champions. I also believe that Sherrone Moore had a lot to do with that and I'm optimistic about recruiting considering our national championship and the expectation of stability at head coach.

I'm middle aged and in my lifetime we have won just as many championships as Ohio State, despite their vastly superior roster for the majority of my life, 7 years of terrible coaches at Michigan, the COVID year, and the late Carr years when we were behind strategically. All things considering, things have worked out pretty well for Michigan recently.

I refuse to start prognosticating about the future until Sherrone has his staff put together, and I don't think that it's a crisis that he hasn't figured it out in a week.
