It looks as if Ohio has offered Mike McCray
McCray's father was OSU captain RT @GerdOzone Per Cam Burrows, it looks like Michigan LB commit Mike McCray has been offered by Ohio State.
No homo.
just yesterday, McCray was too slow, and not elite enough for Meyer. Now Buckeye fans are flipping so quick, you worry about them getting whiplash.
Read the boards on 11w and see that we're not all so excited about this offer. With the young talent in the current LB corps including the two top recruits from 2012, I'd be more comfortable with taking two or three of out of next year's class, considering there are three top 100 guys from OH, Garrett, who is an OSU fan, and Raekwon McMillan who seems to inexplicably love OSU this early in the process. There's a reason McCray didn't get an offer to begin with, UM and OSU are looking for different types of LBs, and I'd rather hold off than take an afterthought.
I don't care about how he is as a player, I'm no scout or talent evaluator. I just want him to stay so I can reference the McCrayken for the next 4-5 years.
Good for Mike. Urban really screwed up by not giving him an offer earlier, even if it would have been a non-commitable one. I think this makes Meyer look bad (or worse, since I'm speaking to a bunch of fellow UM fans) and puts a dent in the whole "he's the best recruiter in the nation and can get whoever he wants" delusion that Ohio fans have, assuming McCray doesn't flip. Urban Meyer seems to me like a guy who has more pride than to offer a guy he was pretty certain he didn't want not too long ago and is committed to his #1 rival, which tells me he's running out of options at that position. I'm looking forward to some shadenfreude in the near future.
F**k Ohio.
Seconded.
They're not sure yet.
I'd think that Mr. McCray is none too enthused about the long term absence of an offer for his legacy son. Boren situation in reverse.
Boren situation in reverse
Wait... so the McCrays put snow in peoples' driveways?
"No way I can get into work today, boss. I can't get out of my driveway."
Damn...That's really funny.
It's a forty-seventherary violation.
Has there been any word on whether the staff is recruitng Anzalone after the Levenberry announcement? Or, if he reached out to M after Creep-Gate?
Nothing happening on that front. There was no backup plan to Levenberry. The staff wanted to take 2 linebackers going into the recruiting class so when McCray committed and it became readily apparent that Gedeon would as well, that essentially left Levenberry for a best available spot instead of a linebacker spot. Since he didn't commit, that spot is still open for the best available but at this point they seem more focused on filling that with a defensive back or defensive lineman.
ooop... delete. Answered the wrong question.
The coaches told Anzalone that they were no longer in need of linebackers. It was Levenberry or bust. Things went bust. They appear to be happy with the linebackers they have.
Yeah, that's what I assumed, but I wonder if they feel shaky at all about McCray or if he indeed has a change of heart would they create a Plan B with a previous recruited LB. Not so much now, but early in the process I actually thought Anzalone was slighter better than Gedeon and McCray.
What changed your mind?
They chose Michigan.
Probably just updated rankings and reading changed my belief Anzalone was better. There seemed be more hype on Anzalone early on. Gedeon highlights were mostly offense, and McCray just seems very rough - almost a reach.
But, Gedoen has that high character-nose for the ball- Posluszny appeal and I think he'll be very good. And, McCray does have speed, size, and upside; so with coaching I suppose he's a good balance of throwback guys and athletes in our LB corps.
I think you're seriously underestimating Gedeon's athleticism.
No, as I noted I think he'll be very good.
It looks like there are already 30+ offers out to sophmores now, which at least seems crazy. Not allowing for development by players into their senior years it just seems like if you do not get in early, it is somehow a sign of disrespect with the kids being recruited today. It seems like it used to be at a minimum kids needed to get to a camp before their senior years....now it is looking like before their sophmore & junior years.....a significant amount of growth and change happens in those years, not to mention the first year/two of college.
I think the only concern I would have with McCray would be if his father had a change in his stance regarding OSU, as I would guess that would be more influential than anyone else. Other than that, unless the wheels fall off in Ann Arbor this fall, I sounds like he is pretty solid.
Does Urban Meyer not know the #1 general rule of recruiting? You always recruit your home state first, it's like going for an open layup...why would you not take that? Well once your an idiot...you're always an idiot. Smh, some things just dont chage. But I am glad McCray doesn't deal with disrepect, way to go young man! Can't wait to see you wear that maize and blue bro.
That shit CRAY!
once you're an idiot*
You had it right the second time. :)
Not to be a Grammar Nazi, but I believe the plural of Grammar Nazi is Grammar Nazis. Grammar Nazi's implies ownership (the possessive form) by a Grammar Nazi rather than multiple Grammar Nazis (the plural form).
I'm happy for Mike that he got the offer. Whether he flips or not, he's a great player. Honestly, I think this offer has more to do with Jaylon Smith looking like a ND commit than Anzalone. I think this will go one of two ways: either McCray will shoot it down immediately and firmly or you'll see him start to make occasional visits and commit to OSU 4-5 months down the road. He will face a ton of pressure to stay home and play with Burrows. Also, continuing dad's legacy will be very attractive. I honestly couldn't make a guess right now on which way he'll go.
either McCray will shoot it down immediately and firmly...

I'm not going anywhere
Mike J McCray II @BIGPLAYMCCRAY_9
Second clause: unneccesary.
Kalis didn't say much. And then he visited Michigan. And then a couple of weeks passed. And THEN he flipped.
Bottom line: there was a whole bunch of smoke before Kalis lit the Buckeye Interwebs on fire. The only smoke here is hypothetical.
There was also a scandal with a coach the possibilites of a bowl ban and other sanctions. If that stuff happens at Michigan, then Kalis would be a valid comparison. But I hate when people bring up Kalis when discussing decommitments. There were extenuating circumstances there.
Do you really think the Kalis and McCray situations are similar?
