It's Hate Week
In 6 short days, this snarling, constantly constipated-looking jackass will step into Michigan Stadium:
The "tough" guy with the strong jaw will be bundled up. Brady Hoke won't wear sleeves.
With an inept offense and an overrated defense, the Spartans are fresh off a Homecoming loss to Iowa and are back to their old ways - playing their Super Bowl against Michigan. The early forecast is for a cool 55 degrees and showers - classic Big Ten football weather. Don't think for one second that anyone in Schembechler Hall has forgotten about this:
or this:
or "60 minutes of unneccessary roughness."
Release Jake Ryan, Mattison. Run wild, Denard. Beat them soundly and then be classy in victory as you always are, Hoke.

Didn't even think to check since there wasn't really any news in it. Oh well, plenty of hate to go around.

I havent really felt confident going into this game since 2007 but i have a good feeling this time. I think we take a big lead early and they just never recover bringing Paul Bunyan back to his rightful home

Annoyance Week. Hate Week is in November.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:08 PM ^
No. This is Hate Week for a few reason:
- It's MSU and they're comprised of a mess of intolerable jackasses
- They've won 4 in a row (as if anyone had to remind us/them)
- They've the defending division champs
- They're in our division and we have to win our division to get a chance to play for the Rose Bowl
- Dantonio
There's plenty of hate to spread around.
October 14th, 2012 at 2:31 PM ^
Those are good reasons and all, but they are trumped by
1. Ohio
2. Ohio
3. Ohio
4. Ohio
5. Ohio

I don't even know what a State fan is. The nearest one that isn't an immediate family member of a player is probably 200 miles away.
There's a pretty clear, and understandable, division in the Michigan community, depending on which opposing fanbase you have to deal with. From here it's hard for me to believe that MSU fans could possibly be as intolerant and intolerable as Ohio, or even ND, but I'll take your word for it.
Except for the added irritation of D'Antonio, this week matters to me about as much as Illinois, or anyone else in the Little Eight aside from Minnesota. Hate? Them? At best, it's Contempt Week.
October 14th, 2012 at 5:59 PM ^
In a few years I feel like all those great reasons could be dwarfed by the fact that Ohio isn't in our division anymore and there just won't be as much up for stake going forward.
Take for instance this year. There is a good chance that if Michigan takes care of its business, it will enter the game against Ohio having already clinched a spot in the title game. Beating Ohio won't really matter. And yes I know that beating them will feel great and give us bragging rights, but that can only go so far in a rivalry that is supposed to be about deciding the Big10 Championship.
October 14th, 2012 at 9:15 PM ^
It will always matter.

I don't really hate Michigan State, but there certainly isn't another program that gets more mileage out of a 32-67-5 record and .332 winning percentage against Michigan than Sparty does.
Sparty is like an obstinate rodent that has escaped capture for four years, and needs to be put in its place.

October 15th, 2012 at 9:41 AM ^
Ohio is our rival. We battle Notre Dame for prestige in the midwest. Don't elevate MSU to a place that they don't belong.
Just because the planets aligned perfectly to find MSU competently coached at a time when Michigan's program suffered an uncharacteristic hiccup to provide the Spartans their current winning streak; doesn't mean they are our rival. They are no more important to our season than Iowa, or Nebraska. Believe me, long term, the Nebraska game is going to mean a whole lot more to Michigan and their annual aspirations for winning the Big 10 Championship than will the Michigan State game.
You find MSU fans insufferable? Dismiss them and treat them as the non-entity that they are. That's the soft spot for any fanbase as insecure as theirs.
Let's finish off their season this weekend and then we can throw this fucking thing in the trash.
October 14th, 2012 at 4:37 PM ^
I dislike MSU as much as the next guy, but the whole idea of "hate week" is bush league stupidity. Leave that childish junk to the Spartans and Buckeyes.

This will be my first UM vs. MSU game (that I've been to) - usually I don't get to go to the bigger games, so this will be awesome. I just wish I knew when kickoff was... I think I hate MSU more than Ohio right now also. We have to right things in the world with them. Then we can move on and think about other fish that need frying.

October 14th, 2012 at 6:41 PM ^
I don't hate the spartans. I view them more as a monkey that we need to get off our back so that we can work towards our goals. This program has larger aspirations than beating a non-BCS-bowl-caliber program like michigan state.
October 14th, 2012 at 6:46 PM ^
As a Michigan Man, I obviously dislike OSU. That being said, with the new conference alignment, there is no denying the MSU rivalry took a HUGE step up. As I said, I have no love for the Buckeyes, but at least they've been a good team historically. MSU and their insufferable fanbase, however, are nothing but wanna be's who refuse to admit that it's not a coincidence that Sparty's recent success in the rivalry came at the ABSOLUTE low of the 133 years of Michigan football. They speak about Michigan as if it's a dinosaur, and should be religated to a museum. They act like they're the up-and-coming power in the Big10 because they had two good seasons. They whined like a kindergarden class whose recess was taken away when Michigan got a BCS Bowl birth, blaming it on anything and everything but the fact that their program WAS NOT ELIGIBLE! Their collective inferiority complex in relation to the University of Michigan is pathetic, and it is personified so perfectly by their douche bag coach. I understand that you don't like your biggest rival, but he goes as far as to point of outright disrespect. There are a lot of coaches in both college and pro whom I dislike, but I respect them -- I do not respect Dantonio, and I would relish the chance to let him know that fact. He's a classless fool, whose time in the sun is ticking away.
Go Blue, Beat State!
October 14th, 2012 at 6:55 PM ^
But MSU does have something going for them tsiO doesn't. Sparty has at least beaten an SEC team without ineligible players on the field. Something tsiO can't claim, despite how historically good they've been.
October 14th, 2012 at 7:14 PM ^
Buckeyes have a "superiorty complex" and act like OSU is the best football program in the nation every year. They conveniently overlook the fact that they were CHEATING and that it is highly likely that the NCAA only uncovered the tip of the proverbial iceburg -- not to mention the "insider deal" that their moronic AD likely worked. Despite all this, there is no denying the fact that OSU's football program is very good, and puts a good product on the field year in and year out.
Spartans, by contrast, have a severe "inferiority complex" in relation to Michigan and it manifest in their complete inability to view the rivalry in a rational manner. I understand that rivalries elicit irrational behavior from both sides, however, Sparty takes this to another level. They want so badly to be respected by the college football world, and they take everything that Michigan does as a slight against them, that they basically guarantee that nobody will respects them. Even going into this season, when the pundits were drooling over them, they couldn't stop talking about Michigan's struggles versus Bama, and then have repeatedly shit the bed.
For some reason I find those that think they're the best easier to tolerate than those that are so racked by insecurity and inferiority that they repeatedly makes asses of themselves.
October 14th, 2012 at 7:45 PM ^
Some years back my late uncle summed up my attitude towards State. He grew up in Ann Arbor and lived there most of his life, had multiple degrees from Michigan, was a fixture of golf course tailgating, etc. When his eldest daughter was approaching college age I asked him if he would pressure her to go to Michigan.
His response: not at all. He told her she could go anywhere she wanted, he didn't care, with one exception. If she wanted to go to State she was going to have to find a way to pay for it herself, because he couldn't physically bring himself to write a check to that "so-called institution."
Hate? Maybe, but I think of it more as contempt.
October 14th, 2012 at 8:41 PM ^
Those of you that don't understand the hatred of MSU, I get that, but trust those of us that were born and raised in a lot of parts of Michigan, it's justified.
The OSU rivalry is and will always be number one for me, but MSU isn't far behind. The hatred is amplified not because of how much they hate Michigan, but simply because they believe they belong in the same football conversation as Michigan. At least with OSU that's true, we're on similar levels in terms of pedigree, tradition and respect. MSU fans think that's also the case with them.
Bring up the all-time series? "No one cares what happened 60 years ago."
"WE WON FOUR IN A ROW" Nevermind that Michigan beat them 6 times straight right before that.
They had back to back 11 wins seasons and still can't recruit for shit? "But look at these 2 or 3 stars that have been successful! I don't understand that a generality isn't false just because there are a few pieces of evidence to the contrary!"
They spend their whole fanhood comparing what MSU does to what Michigan does, and frankly, it's insulting. Call it arrogance, fine, but Michigan Football is different from Michigan State football. They can't consistently fill their rinky dink concrete parking garage stadium, Michigan could get well over 100k playing legitimately anyone. I really don't need to go on listing the differences - you're all aware. They're Iowa, they're Texas Tech, but they somehow don't know that.
They need to be put back in their place.

For anyone who has ever had a little brother, you understand that's the perfect metaphor for MSU. Here are the characteristics of a li'l bro:
- Annoys the piss out of you
- Several steps down the intelligence staircase (in MSU's case, actually just fell down the stairs)
- Cares about nothing more than beating you
- Beats you every now and then, and maybe even has a winning streak
- Actively tries to convince himself he is better than you, but deep down knows you're smarter, stronger, better
- Harasses you incessantly until you beat him badly
- Complains that it wasn't fair when he loses, and talks about the last time he beat you
This is a perfect description for MSU. They'll never be more than li'l bro. And deep down, they know it. There will be no National Championship for them. They've never been to a BCS bowl, and they'll never go to one of the playoff games. They are an afterthought, and don't realize that the success they've had the past few years is as good as it gets for MSU. That's why Saban left, and it's why Dantonio would leave for Ohio if they would have him.
And for all these reasons, we must beat them. Not because they totally suck--little brothers sometimes have a little talent--but because they are a step (or four) below us, and everyone, including them, knows it.
It's time to remind them that they're little brother in a big way.
GO BLUE
