It's a beautiful summer evening, what are you drinking?

Well, you're not going to get a snazzy intro about life on the farm but I think we can all agree summer evenings are a time to rejoice. College football starts in 28 days but plenty of fun to be had in the meantime. What's everyone up to tonight? Drinks? BBQ? Family plans? I'm enjoying a pint of a hoppy lager right by the beach. Hope all is well.

Aberlour. At a state park camping. In the middle of a reno, so we're living in the trailer during  the week and taking it to campgrounds to dump the tanks on weekends. Definitely a "shitter was full"  situation.

It's 92 and humid here in Chicago so I proofed my pizza dough outside -- it's the same environment as a proofing box. Worked well. And I'm drinking diet coke, like I always do.

The word 'proof' is used in a couple of different ways in baking, all relating to yeast and dough rising. In this case, it means letting your dough rise. You can also proof your yeast, which just means you've added water to it and if it foams, you're proving that it's alive and working. Professional baking kitchens have proofing boxes -- they're enclosed racks with doors that have heating mechanisms inside, but only go to about 100 degrees. Warm, humid air will make your dough rise more quickly. (a little culinary school knowledge).

Hey, I’m in your neighborhood - staying with the family on Coronado for a few days. Went for a bike ride, had some surprisingly good pizza at Village pizza now about to get some seafood for dinner. Stone and Coronado brew co beers abound.

It’s a nice cool 95 degree evening here in northeast Oklahoma.  Enjoying some Rowan’s Creek on the front patio.  Gonna switch to Two Hearted and eat an edible, pass out, and head to the lake in the morning.

Woodbridge Cabernet Sauvignon. My favorite Zinfandels have gone up in price and gluten free beer doesn't do it for me--the ones that are well done tend to be boring. (With an exception here and there.)

We've finally hit the hot and humid part of the summer for an extended period. However, it hasn't been as bad as I hear it has down south of the (Canadian) border. We are going to my wife's aunt's 60th wedding anniversary next week in Kentucky, which I am simultaneously looking forward to and dreading.

Why am I looking forward to it? She's my favorite of my wife's many aunts, has helped us immensely when dealing with my mother-in-law (who has Alzheimer's) and she is one of the few of my wife's relatives who will actually leave Kentucky from time to time.

Why am I dreading it? It's going to be hot and humid and my wife's family is--well, let's just say overwhelming at times.

I'm just now slowing down to have a couple slices of reheated pizza and alternating Saugatuck Blueberry Lemonade Shandy with LaCroix. The Big Move to The Farm is tomorrow. My best teacher friend is the HS football coach, so I have 10-12 football player volunteers, a couple coaches, four cargo trailers, and an untold number of pickup trucks showing up at 9 am. I'm still packing and will probably be working until at least midnight tonight. Fortunately I have no deadline to be out of the current space, so what's ready gets moved, and I'll keep on keeping on for the next few days until it's done. So far I've made twelve trips with my car and four with my truck and borrowed trailer since I took possession of the house two and a half weeks ago. It's a pleasant 35-mile, 50-minute drive one way on the back roads. The highway would be faster, but now there are THREE construction slowdowns between here and there. And my son was supposed to arrive from NYC last night to help with the packing today, but now he might make it here by ten am tomorrow due to multiple transit issues. IIWII, and certain things are out of our control. All will be good.
