Iowa LB Jestin Jacobs Out for Season
Ferentz confirmed that LEO LB Jestin Jacobs is out for the season. This is certainly a blow to what looks to be the best linebacking group we will face all year. According to Alex Drain, Jacobs played over 500 snaps this year.
This is the position that comes off the field when they go Nickel but Jacobs was still a solid player.
Ferentz also confirmed that WR Keagan Johnson will not play this week. This was a player that Alex had marked for a potential breakout season.
Terry Roberts, a rotational Corner is also limited and is probably questionable for this week.

Should say that Jacobs played 500 snaps last year not this year.

given their 3 and out offense, i thought it was at least possible. hahaha
September 27th, 2022 at 6:27 PM ^
I was doing the math like...uhh pretty sure that's not possible.

I hate that for these kids. Their college life and career is so short and the season ending injuries are terrible. Stinks.

Sucks for any young man who puts in that much work to miss an entire season. Never want to see injured kids - although I wouldn't mind if Stroud missed our game with say the Flu.
Seems we aren't the only team dealing with injuries early this year.

I wouldn't mind if Stroud missed our game with say the Flu.
I'm going to disagree with you there. If recent history has taught us anything, it is that the backup is actually better than the starter when OSU plays Michigan.
September 27th, 2022 at 3:58 PM ^
Nah. Let's beat Stroud at the shoe. Then I'll be curious to hear what other excuses OSU comes up with this year as to why they lost.
September 27th, 2022 at 9:20 PM ^
Why are you curious? It'll be the flu.
September 27th, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
Why would you want him to miss our game with the flu? He "had the flu" when he played us last year, and I seem to remember that going OK.
September 27th, 2022 at 4:07 PM ^
Yeah, was supposed to be a joke about how he toughed it out through the flu and snow last year and that's why they lost....
Poorly worded joke

I got it.
September 27th, 2022 at 4:41 PM ^
It was fine. If someone missed that one, it was on them.
September 27th, 2022 at 3:55 PM ^
Injuries are a part of the game, but you still don’t like to see guys out for the year. Here’s to a speedy recovery!
September 27th, 2022 at 4:00 PM ^
Always hate the injury news. Hope he has a smooth recovery.

Petras can't hit WRs with any regularity so Johnson was never going to break out. Petras also needs all the help he can get so this isn't good for him. Johnson is probably a much bigger impact on the game.
September 27th, 2022 at 5:22 PM ^
Johnson is an extraordinary athlete but mediocre route runner.
It would not surprise me to see Padilla as a change of pace.
Petras is truly awful.
September 27th, 2022 at 6:01 PM ^
Petras is, indeed, truly awful. But Padilla hasn't been able to beat him out, yet...

Ferentz is loyal to a grotesque fault.
I can’t remember the QB but Ferentz told him prior to spring ball last year that Petras was the starter and he would be 2nd string if he stayed. It was just idiotic.
Neither Petras or the other kid had ever played a down but there would be no competition in Spring let alone Fall. The kid transferred and depth and competition was lost as Petras was anointed.
At least Padilla gives you some mobility to move the chains with his feet and I can’t believe he is less accurate.

I remember Padilla getting some run last season, and if I recall correctly he was worse than petras lol
September 27th, 2022 at 6:28 PM ^
It would very much surprise me to see Padilla this game. What could Petras possibly do worse than he did vs. SD St & ISU? He was 11/25 for 109 and 12/26 for 92 respectively. He threw two picks and took 3 sacks. And Iowa lost at home to ISU directly because of offensive ineptitude.
Daddy & boy Ferentz decided no other QB should make a throw in either of those games. Petras has since improved from abject to inadequate vs. Nevada and Rutgers. So, they must really be loving him now.

I'm sorry about Mr Jacobs. It's always a shame when any player loses a season.
September 27th, 2022 at 4:52 PM ^
Surely you Jestin!
No, and please stop calling me Shirley!

I still think if Michigan is truly in top 5 team, they should smash this Iowa team. 34-13
September 27th, 2022 at 6:19 PM ^
13 points is at least 2 games' worth of points for Iowa.
September 27th, 2022 at 10:02 PM ^
They will score 2 fg and get 7 on a punt block returned for a td.
September 27th, 2022 at 6:39 PM ^
Don’t care what the score is, just win
September 27th, 2022 at 6:35 PM ^
Good! I don’t wish injury on any player, but no one will remember an injured player later this season if we win. The goal is to win all your games! The easier our road the better!

Speaking of LBs, anyone know what's up with NHG? I thought they were taking it easy on him during the cupcake portion, but I was surprised he wasn't out there vs Maryland.
September 28th, 2022 at 1:02 AM ^
MD was suppose to be another cupcake game.
September 27th, 2022 at 7:37 PM ^
If you had told me that the NCAA ruled Jestin Jacobs ineligible for an egregious spelling of Justin, I probably would've believed you.
September 27th, 2022 at 8:10 PM ^
They still have their MVP - their Punter.
September 27th, 2022 at 9:26 PM ^
That's bad news for those kids. Iowa thankful it's not their punter.
September 27th, 2022 at 10:58 PM ^
This sucks. I feel bad for him.
September 28th, 2022 at 1:10 AM ^
I hate to see any college player get injured. Hope he can make a complete recovery.
