Iowa LB Jestin Jacobs Out for Season

Submitted by Padog on September 27th, 2022 at 3:47 PM

Ferentz confirmed that LEO LB Jestin Jacobs is out for the season. This is certainly a blow to what looks to be the best linebacking group we will face all year. According to Alex Drain, Jacobs played over 500 snaps this year.

This is the position that comes off the field when they go Nickel but Jacobs was still a solid player.

Ferentz also confirmed that WR Keagan Johnson will not play this week. This was a player that Alex had marked for a potential breakout season.

Terry Roberts, a rotational Corner is also limited and is probably questionable for this week.

Sucks for any young man who puts in that much work to miss an entire season.  Never want to see injured kids - although I wouldn't mind if Stroud missed our game with say the Flu.

Seems we aren't the only team dealing with injuries early this year.

Petras can't hit WRs with any regularity so Johnson was never going to break out. Petras also needs all the help he can get so this isn't good for him. Johnson is probably a much bigger impact on the game.

Ferentz is loyal to a grotesque fault.

I can’t remember the QB but Ferentz told him prior to spring ball last year that Petras was the starter and he would be 2nd string if he stayed. It was just idiotic.

Neither Petras or the other kid had ever played a down but there would be no competition in Spring let alone Fall.  The kid transferred and depth and competition was lost as Petras was anointed.

At least Padilla gives you some mobility to move the chains with his feet and I can’t believe he is less accurate.

It would very much surprise me to see Padilla this game. What could Petras possibly do worse than he did vs. SD St & ISU? He was 11/25 for 109 and 12/26 for 92 respectively. He threw two picks and took 3 sacks. And Iowa lost at home to ISU directly because of offensive ineptitude.

Daddy & boy Ferentz decided no other QB should make a throw in either of those games. Petras has since improved from abject to inadequate vs. Nevada and Rutgers. So, they must really be loving him now.

Good! I don’t wish injury on any player, but no one will remember an injured player later this season if we win. The goal is to win all your games! The easier our road the better!

Speaking of LBs, anyone know what's up with NHG? I thought they were taking it easy on him during the cupcake portion, but I was surprised he wasn't out there vs Maryland.
