Ferentz and the Iowa staff got bullied by CJ Beathard and his dad threatening a transfer. Why should Rudock stick around and fight for the job when the deck is stacked against him?

If I were on that team, I would a lot more disgusted with that. Rudock at least left quietly and showing respect the Iowa program. His teammates should probably do the same considering the circumstances.

Until a spring depth chart was publicly released Jan. 8 – a program-changing move that led to Rudock exploring a transfer to Michigan that is all but done – Beathard's status was a swirling source of speculation. Rumors that he would transfer gained steam when his father, Casey, floated to his hometown newspaper in Tennessee that his son would consider transferring, depending how things played out in the bowl game.

Here is a link to the original article before the bowl where Beathard's dad talks about him potentially transferring:

After the bowl game, Ferentz made Beathard the #1 QB on the depth chart before spring practice even though Beathard has only one start under his belt. You would think there would at least be an open competition in the spring...unless Beathard was going transfer if he wasn't #1.

So because he left Iowa where he had to compete with 1 QB and came to Michigan where he has to compete with 47 QB's he "doesn't have any fight"?

A 3 star WR from my neck of the woods committed to WESTERN MICHIGAN over Iowa recently. Who the hell wants to live in Iowa?

Hey, horses that can row boats are more impressive than horses that CANT row boats. If you ever heard the meaning behind it its kind of motivational, but still bizzare. Oar stickers on the helmet, western oars all over town, most kzooians think its stupid. But winning cures all! PJ FLECK! PJ FLECK! PJ FLECK!

They open with the spartans AT western, i bet we row that mfing boat and beat them!

Honest question: what makes it cool? I'm not trying to be snarky, just wondering. I've never been to Iowa (unless you count the times I've been to Kansas*).

*ok that part was snark, but really, I am interested in hearing about the good points of Iowa City

It oozes Midwestern charm, the people really do seem a bit more humble/genuine/nice there. Lots of smart people (which you can confirm by reading BHGP), not a lot of agendas. Remember that anywhitedude-under30-gottahaveanAudiA4 craze that swept most metro areas a few years back? That didn't happen there.

and actually teach at the University of Iowa. This article was published in the local paper this morning, and it is basically a "non-story."

Ott loses credibility (or the journalist is incredibly lazy) when he couldn't speak to Rudock's leadership.

Iowa isn't all bad. Iowa City certainly isn't Ann Arbor, but outside of the Metropolitan Detroit area, the two states are very similar... Lots of farms.

I suppose it's been discussed but I'll just leave this here...

Iowa City #10

Ann Arbor #13

To touch on the quote, I didn't think it was that big of a deal. Being someone who watched every Iowa game this year, Rudock doens't have a lot of fight. Half the year he was on the sideline looking dejected.

Beathard is a more exciting QB and with a bit of seasoning could be much better. Ferentz trusted him to throw downfield. Rudock is more of a Malzone with less accuracy and similar arm strength. I've watched the kid play for 2 years, his stats are not representative of his contribution to the team. IE he got benched with those stats because the team had a better chance to win without him.

Live in Iowa and for the most part, a lot of the fans are clowns. Don't get me wrong, they are a ridiculously loyal bunch, some are just bat shit crazy. I have a lot of friends that are Iowa fans and they think he sucks as a QB because he mainly threw 5 yard check downs. Calling a guy soft or saying he doesn't have fight in him is crazy since he will be competing against 19 other guys for his position. All of whom would start for the Hawkeye. Not to mention he's a grad transfer and transferring to a far better school

I actually go to the University of Iowa. In my experience with Iowa fans, they tend to know general things about the conference and what not and are typically pretty nice. I rarely catch any flack when I tell them I'm a Michigan fan. They just actually believe that Iowa is relevant in football. Lololol

at UM after football if he doesn't make it to the NFL (as he probably won't).  He was All-Academic B1G, so this is win/win for him.  Compete for starting QB under the best QB coach in the world and enroll in a top-flight graduate studies program.

I dunno, I thought Ott seemed relatively diplomatic. I'm sure the reporter was giving everything they had to get something nasty, but this didn't amount to much in my opinion.

It reminds me of how 90% of the Michigan State grads I encounter tell me that they got into Michigan but thought students there were too arrogant so they went MSU instead.
