Indiana general discussion

Submitted by The Mad Hatter on November 19th, 2019 at 6:20 PM

I spent a little time on an IU fan forum today to check out our upcoming opponent and I learned a few things.

First, an IU fan forum exists.  And more than one person posts in it!  This was surprising. As was the lack of Penix jokes.

They seem like really nice people and they also find OSU fans to be classless pieces of shit.  The really like their coach and think they'll be a contender going forward.

Many of them were small children when they last beat us, but hope springs eternal.

So is anyone actually going down there to the game?  I've never been but it's on the list

I might go. Up in the air right now.

I hate their coach. He is obnoxious as shit. The dude is way to animated on the sidelines when the littlest thing happens.

Ohio State was completely scoring on that drive, anyway.  I think Harbaugh’s reaction to that call was a bit more calculated than you think.  He may not have expected the penalty but I think he was willing to roll the dice in the faint hope that it would lead to us not getting completely screwed for the rest of the game.  (So much for that).

Anybody criticizing Harbaugh for blowing a gasket in that game after watching his team get screwed all game by the officials is an idiot. Here is an idea, instead of blaming Harbaugh how about we blame the incompetent biased officials with Ohio ties and the conference that allowed them to do that game?

I would compare him to Pat Fitzgerald.   Tom Allen is a New Castle IN native and although he didn't play for IU like Fitz did for NW, this is his dream job.  He worked his way up from Indiana HS coach.

He will enjoy  some moderate success at IU just like Fitz at NW but ultimately will he a .500 coach and the university will love him for it.

Well, no Indiana general discussion can be complete without mention of Maj. Gen. Ambrose "Sideburns" Burnside. That facial hair alone won the North several battles...

I will be there, but that’s not surprising since I live about 5 minutes from the stadium. IU has their best team in the last few years, but surprisingly I think Michigan dominates them for the first time in a long time. The last 5 IU-Michigan games have been insanely conservative on Michigan’s end and I think this year they’ll pass a lot more with a lot of success.

IU is due to eventually beat Michigan and they have been close a lot, and this is their best team but I think this is the worst they lose in a while to Michigan.

Another good opportunity to make a statement.

If they can re-focus after the big game this past weekend, they'll have a good chance to control this game.

Heading down Friday after work. Staying around Indy then tailgating and wandering campus in the morning.

Indiana basketball fans calling OSU fans "classless pieces of shite". Now that's funny....!

We have more "classless pieces of shite" because we're a bigger school in a bigger state. But I would bet the % of "classless pieces of shite" to total is about the same for all schools......

Yes, I remember leaving the 93 game early as we finished off another stellar Cooper 0-28 defeat.I fondly recall the cups being thrown at us, some with liquid in them, being shoved several times and multiple fingers pointed in my face. Yes, "exceedingly rare".

But it worked. I haven't been back since. I go to other stadiums where I have NEVER had any incidents other than some good natured heckling.

Yep, you guys are all class......

Isn't the internet great. One can make up whatever scenario one wishes and there is no way to disprove it. Certainly there are douches on all sides but the chances that you have embellished your story are quite high. Here, given the larger "off-field" optics of MSU, PSU and OSU vs Michigan, the chances that Michigan objectively grades out much higher would seem to be something one could bet the farm on (pun intended to you land-granters).

Peyton Ramsey has not played well against Michigan, cumulatively completing less than 50% of his passes and not throwing for over 200 yards. Yet Indiana has played Michigan extremely close. Much of this has to do with the fact that, in '17, the Indiana game came after a devastating loss to Sparty. And last year it was before what at the time looked to be an epic matchup with Ohio State.

I expect this game to be close as well, coming in between two emotional games for Michigan.

This whole "Indiana Flu" thing is not new. The only game I went to down there was in '99, when Indiana had Randle-El and were a dropped TD pass in the endzone away from upsetting Blue, who were of course coming off a devastating loss to Illinois that ended Rose Bowl hopes.

By the way, Indiana fans are gracious hosts and there are some classic bars down there (Nick's, Bluebird, etc.)

I am flying to Indy for the weekend and headed to the game with a good friend and fellow Michigan alum.  Have not been able to get to a Michigan game for 3 years and looking forward to seeing Michigan live.  Should be a good game and it is always fun to see college football in BIG 10 Country.
