How do we beat Alabama?

90% pass? The run game hasn’t come close to the ND game performance since, even against Maryland and putrid sparty.

If we win this will have to be a shootout.

Devise a gameplan.

Play a more bend-don't-break style of defense to limit big plays a-la-Iowa.  Let Shea completely loose and see what happens.  Worst case scenario he keeps chucking it to Bama and we lose, but we've seen enough of Shea to know that interceptions aren't his weakness.

As we saw against OSU, blitzing our LBs every damn down opens up running lanes that wouldn't be there otherwise, and lends itself to more big plays both on the ground and through the air.  If there's one thing Alabama has a huge advantage in it's the run game.  Don't let them get past the LB level.

Part of me, the 10 year old part, thinks they should just tell the Punter to enjoy the bench for the day because we're going to run the Gattis spread to the hilt and never kick.

I mean yeah, you might lose the game, but who cares? See if you can score a bajillion and have some fun.

Hope Hinton and Mazi Smith get super good. Its going to be Wisconsin/OSU all over again where a complete inability to stop interior runs is going to mean they put up points essentially at will and we just aren't there yet offensively to win that sort of game.

Their defense has been kinda shitty all year, and a bunch of their best guys won't play in the game anyway.

Their offense will be a backup QB who kinda stinks throwing to a bunch of WR who didn't play all year because the starters will be preparing for the NFL draft.

That isn't going to happen.  And what is frustrating for actual fans of this team is that saying that it is going to happen feeds trolls who will claim that Alabama "didn't play their guys" even if not one player sits the game out because the only other thing they have to talk about is Wake Forest.

Michigan's players will play in this game.  Alabama's players will play in this game.  Whoever wins the game has won a pretty big game.  Let it be that.

It doesn't matter, IMO, in some time all people will remember is "Michigan beat Alabama" (if that happens, of course). How many OSU fans bing up the caveat that only a couple of times in the past 16 editions of 'The Game' has Michigan entered the game without missing critically important players? None of them do, all that they remember is they won.

Alabama's best players will not play in the game. I dunno why that's so annoying to people here. Their best NFL eligible players will sit it out, because it's a lowly Citrus Bowl and they spend every offseason mentally preparing to win the whole thing, not play a bowl game before NYD. They will not have their best against Michigan.

This is an opportunity for Michigan to change narratives nationally, but whatever happens won't actually mean much of anything to people who pay close attention.

I would be surprised if Jeudy did not sit this one out.  Many of those star Alabama guys went there for the right to play in the NFL.  And it's not close to a playoff game.  Does Jerry Jeudy need a meaningless bowl game to prove that he is a high first round draft pick?

Anyone else at least a little surprised that the powers that be haven't even made an obligatory "Michigan versus Alabama in the Citrus Bowl" front page post? I mean I get it, football BPONE and all that but it's been almost 24 hours since the announcement and it's just radio silence over here.

I think everyone's in "nothing really matters!" mode still, which I understand. But whatever, it's a New Year's Day bowl game against Alabama, so why not enjoy the ride.

I get that a playoff system of some kind was necessary, but I also hate it because it does take away from the other bowl games. I honestly don't give much of a fuck about the playoff. All I want is for us to beat Ohio State, and maybe one day even win our conference. The rest is just a bunch of bowl games to me, each no more pointful than any other, really. Root for your school and have fun doing it: that's my sage advice.

Mostly agree, except for the "playoffs system was necessary" part. It wasn't, it came from pressure from the media, not fans (yes many wanted it but there was zero fan pressure), and it has had the same negative affect many warned about--devaluing all non playoff bowl games. Now most higher end teams barely show up emotionally at the bowls.
