Hoke on shane morris late in game

Submitted by newfoundhbomb on

hoke on the radio was asked why shane came in the game.  said they were gonna make a change but decided not to because devin is a senior and it was special for him to finish the game, his last time playing against MSU.  my response is what the hell dude.  play to win the damn game.  he tries way to hard to baby his players.  he coaches them soft and in return they play soft. devin makes so many mistakes and he knows that they won't bench him.

How bout he actually steps up instead of being statue then jump lob. On one of the sacks, Mason Cole pushed back Callhoun and he got to gardner for the sack. If devin steps up in the pocket he doesn't get sacked as easily. He's just not football smart

when Devin Gardner throws on target and the receiver has it and drops it, how is that a reflection on the QB???  That's going back to coaching why they can't hang onto the ball.

Devon doesn't have the skill set to run this offense. He wasn't moved to receiver because they needed him there. While he did have some success that gave a glimmer of hope that he may develop it got squashed pretty quick when D coordinators figured out that all you had to do to stop him was to pressure and take away his first read. The sad thing is he is the best option which is a perfect example of the ineptness of this staff not being able to develop or properly use the talent that is there.

Devin had a wide open touchdown on the first pick (and another wide open WR to his left) and instead panicked cause no one was near him and threw a pick. The second pick was the worst play I have ever seen in my life by a QB. A weak shovel pass directly to a defender. What have they been teaching this poor kid?

I like devin. I really do. He is a fighter. A competitor. What he isn't doing, is playing qb well. He missed some reads today that were clear. He made two horrendous turnovers. Shane came in for one play and threw a ball better than 9/10ths of vins balls on his first play. When Shane came out I thought they decided to platoon them. Couldn't figure it out. If hoke made the call to leave devin in because he thought it was the best chance to win I'm good with that. I'm not good with him making a decision to pull him out, then changing his mind a play later.

getting steamrolled by his in-state rival. That's exactly what I was thinking too. (Not that I blame Devin entirely, he was awful but the whole football organization is just incompetent and terrible)

Morris throws picks but at least they're "normal" picks. WTF was Gardner doing out there?!? I've never seen anyone look as clueless as Gardner -- a 5th year senior, no less -- did today. That shovel pass INT should have been Gardner's last play of his college career. It was simply that bad.

I'd up vote that x1000.  I've been saying since their embarassment in South Bend, that it is little wonder the players like Hoke so much.  He's their friend, he hands out participation awards when he needs to be handing out some of that toughness he spoke about at his coming out press conference in 2011. The players don't yet realize that their best friend is actually their worst enemy.

this coacing staff (Hoke) give two fucks about getting Shane experiance for next year? If as a lot of us say, that he sees the writing on the wall, then he is going to stick with Gardner out of loyalty, oh and because he is a Senior and this is his last time playing, Indiana, Northwestern, Maryland and Ohio State....

Are you for real? As bad as some of his play has been Devin at least gives us the only chance we have. what has Shane shown in any of his appearances to make you think that he is even remotely capable right now? Hoke has done nothing to improve Gardner or Morris.

Nussmeier is.

I want you to think about something.  Way back in 2012 Al Borges took a WR and in one week turned him back into a QB.  Not just somebody that could take some snaps, but a guy that ran off three consecutive B1G victories and looked fairly impressive doing it.  Even during the OSU game last year, with a broken foot, Gardner looked more sure of himself than at any time this season.

WTF happened?  Nussmeier was supposed to be this QB guru that would teach Gardner how to look off receivers.  How to go through his progressions.  How to throw the ball away instead of turning it over.  Nussmeier didn't correct any of those problems, but he did teach him how to identify the Mike.  Well BFD.

Troll: In your fairytale, what happened in between the Notre Dame and Ohio State game last year?

Answer: Devin Gardner played exactly like he's played this year.

You're discussing a couple of games like its the norm. You're discussing a few games in 2012 against terrible defenses like it was some miracle job.

The more Devin was "coached up" by Borges, the worst he got, save one game against OSU at the end of the year (The Indiana game was stereotypical of every game Indiana played last year).

Devin just doesn t have it. I finally understand why vegas had us at 7.5. Cause they saw devin at paytons wb camp. No good. Maybe hoke can coach but this team offensively is awful. Painful. Worst i have ever seen. But keep throwing devin under center. That ll work. Wtd

What part of Gardner's play today or any other time this season makes you think he gives us any chance of winning anything?  If that performance was not a reason to bench him then I don't know what the hell it would take.

Yeah, I don't know what the hell the coaches are doing but even a small amount of talent can overcome bad coaching at least sometimes.  A fifth year senior should be able to read a defense, doesn't stare down receivers, doesn't shot put the ball, and doesn't make a shovel pass like whatever that was we saw.

He knows they won't bench him? What the hell are you talking about? They DID bench him. Remember, just the other week, when Shane Morris started and then got his ankle fucked up and then got concussed, and only then did they put Gardner back in?
