Hoke Invited?

Submitted by winterblue75 on
Just wondering if anyone has any insight or thoughts as to whether Brady Hoke may have been invited to the Harbaugh press conference. Lloyd and Mo were there, so just curious.

Deserves better? 3-9, 5-7, 7-6...he should be mentioned with coaches who actually accomplished something at Michigan? This job was too big for Brady and he still far exceeded RR here. Let that sink in.

Before he even made it to fall practice, Boren transfers to OSU talking about family values issues and Braylon throws a hissyfit because a CB was wearing the #1 jersey in practice.  That's stupid.  And it also highlights that entitlement talk that Hoke was referring to.  RR walked right into it from current and former players.  And it was still there as recently as this year's MSU game (Stake-gate).

Nobody else has ever had to worry about a transfer, or Braylon throwing a hissyfit. Brady Hoke had the support of a wonderful AD that never meddled in his business and had a talent for letting the people under him unfold their capablities to the fullest. The entire fanbase was united behind Lloyd Carr. Gary Moeller never had to worry about any weird shit behind the scenes--his staff was a smoothly running machine, everyone pulling in the same direction.

But they didn't talk about it, not in public anyway.

What was unique about RR was that he made sure everyone knew how bad he had it. Had a reporter embedded in his house for three years chronicling it all. Still talking about it to this day--his public reaction to Harbaugh's hiring was another "look how much better it is for him than it was for me."

WHO'S GOT IT BETTER THAN US???

The contrast couldn't possibly be more clear.

It also struck me as awkward initially, but the difference between Rich Rod and the coaches Harbaugh mentioned is that Rich Rod is currently the head coach at another school. He probably didn't want to mention the coach of  some other school.

I suspect the only reason Jim mentioned Lloyd and Mo by name is because they were sitting right there.  It figures he would thank the outgoing coach no matter what, and of course he's going to mention Bo.  RR just didn't come up in his mind.  I very much doubt it was an intentional slight.

Did the State file for the restraining order or did the University of Michigan file for one? Hoke is not a bad person, just didn't develop the team like we wanted. I think he will always be welcomed at Michigan, but will always carry the bad stigma with him. No more distractions, let it rest. Everything is about timing. Just think about 5 years ago when we listened to Harbaugh denounce the Michigan difference, compared to where we are today. I am happy with where we are today.

IIRC Bo said in Bo's Lasting Lessons that Moellers homecoming was the loudest he had ever heard former players welcome someone. I know Moeller had more success (and was Bo's hand picked successor) but I understand how he could feel ashamed about his exit, in time I don't think that will be a hurdle for Hoke; as long as he gave it his all there's no shame in giving your best and failing. Hoke loves Michigan and I suspect he'll continue to be part of the family moving forward.

Harbaugh specifically thanked Hoke and his wife at the conference. It's not like Hoke is a piriaha. But his presence at that conference would have been a major distraction.

It was like he was going out of his way to make it clear RR wasn't part of their little club. I like Harbaugh, but that was disgraceful. RR doesn't deserve that. It'd be like thanking Martin right after Hackett, just to make a point of not thanking Brandon. (Although Brandon would certainly deserve it more than RR.)

This hatred for RR is so petty and pathetic. It's like the girl that makes the all-boys wrestling team and they bully her into quitting, then mock her the rest of the year. Get the F over yourselves.

I doubt that Harbaugh ever worked up a hatred for RichRod.  He probably barely ever knew him.  It's more likely that he simply sought to thank his immediate predecessor (Hoke) and the other two former coaches who were in the room (Carr, Moeller) - two men who have also volunteered to aid his transition here.

Let's not forget that we are scrutinizing the introduction speech of a guy who had been coaching an NFL team less than 48 hours previously, was under the weather and probably jet-lagged to boot.  Cut him a bit of slack.

petty and pathetic on this board is the hatred for Carr.  I wish RR would have worked out here, but he is responsible for the horrible defenses and special teams.  Memories are short around these parts.  Carr was one of the best coaches in Michigan history and is hated by many on this board...largely because of a one-sided book.  He was an awesome coach who kept the program clean and competitive...also won the NC here.

Some feeds did several pans of the audience, and it didn't look like he was anywhere to be found, but then again, I would be shocked if he had showed up. After all, that would be rather awkward - not onlyhad you been replaced, but look at who they replaced you with. I have to think that even if such an invitation had been extended, it would have been a weird one to accept.

Was RR invited? No. Heck, he did not even make the "thank you to former Michigan coaches who setup this situation" list. Jimmy thanked Brady, Carr, Mo, and Bo... No credit or reference at all to Rich.
