What is everyones plans today? Any Easter traditions to share with the board?I hope you all have a great day worshipping our Lord. We are all just beggars in the presence of our King. The Tomb is empty and because of that your sins are forgiven, what a Glorious Day! I hear the weather is going to be nice in SE Michigan today, so get out and enjoy! For non Christians I hope you have a good day and just remember there is a seat at the table waiting for you, just come on in. God Bless all of you and I am praying for each and everyone of you!

Yes, Christianity is under such sustained, brutal assault in this country that the two schools playing for the national championship are explicitly affiliated with the two largest religious denominations in the country. Such oppression is outrageous.

Not only that, word on the street is that Joel Osteen is so unnerved by the constant mockery that he’s considering selling his Lamborghini. Kenneth Copeland was seen recently sobbing inside his Gulstream V because people are being mean to him. And Jerry Falwell Jr. might even give up his frequent use of Hendrick Motorsports’s yacht because of the ribbing he’s been subjected to by being photographed with his pants unzipped next to a woman with her pants unzipped who isn’t his wife.

I know you're a young dude, Don. But general attitude on a national level can shift quickly, especially in the social media age. And sometimes you can see warning signs of a coming shift. I won't go any further than that.

But the televangelists you referenced really are not representative of real people of Faith. They are Pharisees in sheeps clothing and yet many think that all Christians are just like them. Hence your comment.

But also probably a part of the reason that christians have to worry.    When too many people justify too many things in the name of god, it makes others question their sincerity.   When people of faith don’t stand up to the people who are using faith to justify things that don’t seem particularly christian, it should not be a surprise that support for christianity diminishes.   Even on this blog, some of the people who are most vocal in espousing  their beliefs, don’t seem to walk the walk.

I'm 68—if that means I'm young, I hate to think what being old will be like.

I'm an atheist son of an atheist Unitarian minister who spent over four decades at Unitarian congregations in Chicago, Grosse Pointe, Minneapolis, and North Carolina. My father regularly received hate mail and prank phone calls specifically because of his beliefs. I know that a not-insignificant percentage of Christians in this country believe that I shouldn't enjoy the same constitutional rights they have specifically because I'm an atheist. UUs are one of the smallest denominations in the country, and to say that they don't have even the tiniest particle of the social, economic, and political influence of the Roman Catholic Church, the mainstream Protestant denominations, the Southern Baptist Convention, or the huge number of independent Evangelical churches is a gigantic understatement.

I'm not a church-goer myself but I know that Unitarians are very aware of what constitutes mockery and derision and relative powerlessness, and it doesn't include having TV audiences in the millions and a very open and fervent alliance with one of the nation's major political parties. No politician really gives a damn about the Unitarian vote (or, needless to say, the atheist vote), and there will never be a group of Unitarians laying hands on the President in the Oval Office. As a strong believer in the separation of church and state, that's fine with me.

Well, yes and no regarding the limitations.  In some instances there was a complete ban on all gatherings and many forms of practices, which could be argued as a heavy violation of two aspects of the 1st amendment (freedom of religion and freedom of assembly) - and that reasoning was involved in the court arguments.  Also, this involved all major religious gatherings - not only Christian forms.

(And no one in this thread was claiming this was a "war on Christianity" anyway.)

Not an open war, but one could argue that some (a small subset) of the measures were antagonistic to all major congregating religions (which includes Christianity) by their restrictions on constitutional rights.  (This isn't my stance per se - just playing devil's advocate.)

There are many definitions/interpretations of "war" - including cold wars, culture wars, public opinion wars, etc.  One person's "discussion" or "differences of opinion" are another person's "war" - all depends on the perspective.

This might be the most laughable statement here.

1. Just cause someone says they are a Christian, means absolutely nothing. 90% of Congress is not Christian I can promise you that, or you can look at what they vote for and see that is not true. Do Christians believe in murdering baby in the womb? The answer is no. I could give more examples, but you wouldn't care.

2. Based on point 1, we have a non Christian president right now. That point flows to many others. I would say in the last 100 years, we have had 3, maybe 4 Christian presidents.

3. You say no open war... ok, so why are Christians are the only group that it is ok to shit on in society. Mock anyone else and you are cancelled. If you teach the true word of our religion you are called every name in the book and shut down for your beliefs. I would call that a war.

Whowouldathunk. U of M often fostering people of reasoned and intellectually honest religious faith. A fellow UUer myself. Happy Easter to everyone, however they are choosing to celebrate it. In particular the 2 billion of all manner of people with self-professed belief in Jesus.  But Easter stands as a symbol of hope and renewal for many others as well. I think Easter is a pretty good example of how faiths evolve and mix and move over the centuries...

He is risen, indeed, xtra! Praise Jesus!

His death, burial, & resurrection is the pinnacle of all things foreshadowed throughout the predictive Scriptures (i.e. the Old Testament).

You may be interested to examine this piece of writing that goes to great lengths to show how the ancient Scriptures predict/foreshadow the gospel: The Mystery of the Gospel

Apologetics is a waste of time, it is a heart issue to not believe. As I have stated before, no evidence will convince a denier. Pray hard for them and use the Gospel as it was meant to be used, a sword.

Cherry picked point. I won't dispute the meaning of the verse, but you are ignoring the context and you should know that if you have spent much time apologetics.

John 12:48

Luke 10:16

Hebrews 10:26

I could go on and on, but you get the point.

They curse themselves if you have shared the word.

Come on man.

I expected the non believers (re: blue in dc up to his usual antics of shitting on people with a different opinion than his) to attack you as in the above but then you're attacking another believer.

Be better than that.  Even if you have your differences.

...and quite frankly, nobody knows who is going to be truly right until we're all worm food one day.  So be respectful while you're still around.

Happy Easter fellow Wolverines. The men are all headed out to go offshore fishing while the women are back at the campground doing an Easter egg hunt and baskets with the youngest kids.
