As always, there are multiple factors involved. The stadium is old, rusty, large and off-campus. The team has not been good since June Jones left. Every home game is on PPV which has really decreased attendance. The UH administration and government officials are incompetent and mostly corrupt. There are many more activities to do on a Saturday, although high school football is huge. The population of the whole state is less than the Austin, Texas metro area. There are too many obstacles to overcome to have a profitable football team.

Wait, what? Section 1 got caved? What did he do? He was always consistent in his dislike for the Freep/Rosenberg and about the students showing up on time for the game. This site needs people like him. He is our Judge Smails.

I like how you substituted virtuous for vicious. I will have to remember that one. Although, in this case (UM) virtuous may be appropriate.

I did not expect it, but I am very glad that we will have a new offensive coordinator next year. It will be interesting to know if this was Hoke's decision or Brandon's.

Other than Ohio, in every other bowl game the Big Ten team is the lower ranked (with Minnesota-Syracuse both unranked). Because of the good bowl tie-ins, the Big Ten is almost always the underdog which skews the Big Ten bowl record and makes the Big Ten seem worse than it actually is.

I agree with Brian here. Space Coyote has written more words on this site in the last couple of weeks than most of the paid MGoBlog employees. While the site is set up for reader feedback, it is as if Space Coyote is using this one as his own forum. He has an outlet on his own website. Magnus makes comments here, but he uses his own blog for longer posts to put his thoughts down. I, for one, have not appreciated Space Coyote's constant responses back and forth with every person who disagrees with him. There was one OP in which a user and Space Coyote's "dialogue" took up almost a whole page of 50 comments. If he wants to defend Borges at such length, he should do it on his own site, not a site that Brian provides. He needs to be more like Magnus.

Finally, someone mentions the problem with the defense. Mattison started out aggressive when he first got here. Now, we are a plain vanilla "bend but don't break" defense. I think that is what is so frustrating to people. Both offense and defense play not to lose instead of playing aggressively to win. Is it written somewhere that Michigan must play boring, conservative football?

Borges does not handle adversity well. He goes into a shell and becomes super-conservative when the game is going poorly. His play calling cost us this game as well as others like Iowa on the road.
I am also tired of the excuses that our personnel does not fit the system. Ohio went from Tressell-ball to Urban's spread in 2 years without any "transition" issues (the one year under Fickell was the result of Tat-gate and "sanctions"). Hoke and company have had 3 years. We should be better.

Don't forget the gesture that Hoke did for the ND fan who had a myocardial infarction (heart attack).
"This isn’t something that was set up by their (public relations) staff,” said Staudacher, the 69-year-old Bay City retiree. “This is from a guy who cares enough about a human being to sit down with a felt pen and write a note. It’s someone he doesn’t know, has never met and is a Notre Dame fan, but he took the time to do it.
“If that isn’t class, I don’t know what is.”
I am very glad Hoke is our coach. He gets it. He is a classy Michigan Man who has his priorities in order.

There are no perfect solutions. At least in this proposal, all teams in the Eastern Time Zone are in the Eastern divisions.
Another problem is if there is expansion or relocation, the main destinations seem to be in the East, also- Quebec City, Toronto metro area.

|1 year 29 weeks ago||I think there are a few||
I think there are a few reasons why the blog seems to have changed, and most of them are the result of the growing popularity of the blog.
Brian does not have the time to write as much anymore because he must spend more time on the administrative aspects- security/malware issues, finances, etc.- of the blog.
The football team has returned to its baseline state: minimum 8-9 win seasons with better seasons sprinkled in. I joined because I was in the UNACCEPTABLE faction. I came to appreciate some of the points from the other side, but the strongly held emotional positions people took during the tenure of RR contributed to the strength of the blog.
Writing is very time-consuming. When I first came upon the blog, I could not believe that people would spend that much time on FREE content. I think the writers are great, but I do not read every post. Personally, I do not care much for the recruiting info except for the Hello posts, but clearly I am in a minority there. I like TomVH, but the thing about his posts were that we got the scoop on these recruits. Now, those on Twitter have usurped the scoops. I do not think that TomVH would still seem to have the same insider information were he still here. Not many criticized Heiko, but he is a good example to use. He is in the MD/PhD program at Michigan. Do you understand how difficult and time-consuming that is? He explained that he was doing research that semester, so he could carry out his MGoBlog functions. What that means is that while you were reading his press conference transcripts and banter with Borges and commenting in the drinking threads, he was in the lab doing his research to keep up. He did the Blog work because he loves Michigan football, like we all do. Few of the writers make a living at this, and none are getting rich.

You might notice that Zoltan is currently one of the best punters in the NFL while using the pro-style formation. Perhaps it is the punter that makes the most difference, not the formation. Correlation does not equal causation.
|1 year 39 weeks ago||Re: Dubstep||
With all the talk of tradition, uniformz, matte helmets, etc.- I was wondering when we would begin to talk about changing the Victors? I mean, nobody is now alive who was born when Michigan was "Champions of the West." We are in the Eastern time zone. At best, we are Midwest. Shouldn't we update the fight song? "The kids will like it." Right? Isn't that what is important these days? Supposedly, that is what is driving all these changes. That and money.
Well, screw that. The University has a 7 billion dollar endowment. Every student could attend for free, and it would not dent it. The athletic department is the second most lucrative in the country, so desperation cannot be the reason for whoring-out the football team and tradition. All we get are lame excuses and rationalizations. I am one alumnus that is fed up. My family, which include many alumni, is similarly angry. This short-term money grab has got to stop.

I love how in the off-season everyone was certain that Pipkins would be the starter by the third game at the latest. The fervor with which people on this site buy into the recruit rankings is ridiculous. True freshmen rarely make significant contributions to teams especially freshmen on the defensive and offensive lines. That is why Kalis, another "he will start at either guard or tackle in 2012" is going to redshirt. You cannot count on freshmen to fix a team's problems. These players need time to develop into good contributors.

This bourbon is pretty good. The cook at the Alaska salmon fishing lodge I stayed at swore by this. It could be a little smoother to my taste, but he liked the bottle and the fact that it was "Frontier Whiskey." It is also a little higher proof than the typical 80 proof spirits.
