Give Joepa the Horrific, Silent, Back-turned Send off He Deserves

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

With as much as this blog and fan-base detests to our dying day the horror that Joepa knowingly allowed for decades under his watch, maybe we really can make a statement about it.   There are multiple mgobloggers in every section of that stadium come Saturday, and it just doesn't seem that difficult if a few per section took literally a few minutes before the game to relay a simple message:  When PSU comes out don't boo, don't make a sound, simply turn your back like Joepa did to the child molestor!

Even drunks would understand that.  It would be rather newsworthy and draw the proper attention - silence and backs turned by 100,000+ fans.  Shame the child molestors and their sex-offender-loving fan base.

It might be pie in the sky, but heck, if WD can take Brandon down, why not let our voices be heard in the silence.  A few signs, a few encouragements to the crowd as they file in to get their tickets scanned, a bit of yelling in the stands between the rawk music selections during warm ups, and you just might get it done.

What do you think?

Most of the current PSU players signed to the program AFTER the Sandusky scandal became public. And while some left the program, most decided to stay. They have willingly associated themselves with and implicitly condoned PSU's conduct. Now they have to accept public criticism, n whatever firm it takes, as a consequence.

just played a game celebrating Paterno's legacy. I'm not putting innocent in quotes, but is it so terrible for them to experience a different reaction? If PSU wanted to put this whole ugly chapter behind them, I don't think anyone would be suggesting this type of thing.

I support this motion. I think if we get a critical mass, people will be sheep, as they are wont to do. Just say "Joe Pa knew. He turned his back. Let's turn ours."

But I'd like to see a giant chartreuse (yellow-green) ribbon, the color designated for support of victims of child sexual abuse, right in the middle of the student section. We did a block M a few times; it would be quite the troll job to have the announcers have to talk about it, since it will be pretty obvious on tv.

Honestly, wearing ribbons to promote the awareness of sexual abuse would be perfect. It's a problem outside of PSU, and one that needs to be promoted just as much a cancer awareness drives. Plus, the subtle dig would be enough to let an entire fan base know we know who they are.

Im turning my back also. It wouldn't be hard to yell at the fans in your section real quick and tell them to pass it on. We may get half of them to do it.

It was mentioned above and I think the best way to spread the idea would be to make signs and stand in front of the entrance gates to spread the word to everyone walking in. I loved it when Temple fans did it at the last game and would be great to see at the big house

Doesn't surprise me. The football program, and as a result, the entire athletic program was built on the back of child rape. They knew 40 years ago and looked the other way, all in the name of more football wins against Syracuse, Temple, West Virginia and the like. They weren't going fess up until everything was exposed. And I'm not so sure they've given up the ghost now.

And the only people this will send a message to are some innocent students. This will do nothing about the university's administration, only be interpreted as disrespect for the athletes.

This is coming from a good place and I understand the message it wants to send, but it won't hit home the way it's intended.
